General Chat / Re: Looking for RIFT players

Unless all h311 breaks loose and its an ultra packed server, we will be rolling on:

Server: Regulos
Type: PvP
Faction: Defiant
Guild Leader: Krom (that's me)
Guild Name: Deathblade

We were planning on the Deepstrike server but it was WAY overpopulated so we switched to the above pvp server.  Message me or any Deathblade guild member and we'll hit you with an invite!  See you in game.

Cool brotha, servers are down right now, but it's because they're resolving character disappearance issues, LOL.

Just to give you an idea, old girls laptop has the following hardware:

-Intel Dual Core P8400
-NVIDIA 9800GTS (1G RAM)
-4G RAM

and she gets about 30FPS during heaving RIFT'n and the lowest possible settings.  It's not ideal, but it's certainly playable.  I'm running the following:

-Intel i7 950 (@3.07Ghz)
-6G RAM
-(2) NVIDIA GTX 460s in SLI

and I get a solid 55-60FPS no matter what is going on, and maxing out at 90FPS.  This is with only 1x AA enabled.  With max AA enabled, that drops the FPS by at least 30FPS.  Keep in mind also, that I'm running in a 2048x1152 resolution, which is super friggin' high.

That should give anyone a good idea of where you're going to stand, hardware wise.  Now, if they'd only get the darned servers back up  ::)

Yeah I JUST saw that lol, all characters gone...weird!  I don't know if it was intentional.  But yeah, graphics can eat your machine if you don't have some good hardware, but it scales well at lower settings.

Oh, just thought of something.  If need be, I can post my current hardware and report on what type of settings and FPS that I'm getting, if anyone wants to compare or if you're thinking about getting into the game but are worried about needing a hardware upgrade.  I also have a gaming laptop and the specs on it.

Some friends and I are playing on:

Server: Shadefallen
Type: PvE
Character Name: Veganslayer

We probably won't be forming a guild until the game goes live.  Throw my name into your friends list and look me up for info/gaming fun.  I will be on all of today and every evening this week.

/sickday ftw  ;)

Edit: we will be starting on the Deepstrike (PvP) server when the game goes LIVE.  Also note that if you pre-order the game, you can start playing one week prior to game launch date, which is currently set for March 1st!

The next RIFT beta starts tomorrow at noon CST and it lasts for 6 days.   So get on over to the site and sign up for an account!

-multiclass characters (rogue/ranger, warrior/shadowknight, necromancer/elementalist)
-a familiar user interface (wow, cept more polished)
-RIFTS that open up at random and spew forth death, destruction and chaos!
-waaay better graphics then that other  mmo

I'm really excited about this launch and hope others will join us in the adventure!

p.s. I think they're resetting the previous beta characters this time around, so tomorrow I'll post the server we're on and character names, so we can game it up!

Myself and a few others have been involved with the RIFT beta for a few months now and fury suggested I drop a line here at okgamers to see if anyone else was playing RIFT.  If you don't know what I'm talking about, head over to:

http://www.riftgame.com

and sign up for the open beta that starts on Feb. 15th and take a look for yourself.  The best way to describe this upcoming mmo is that it's a cross between EQ/WoW and Aion.  If you're still having fun with wow, more power to ya but I got bored with that game a few years ago, but stuck with it because there weren't an real alternatives.  That has changed.  PM me for server/faction/guild info.  Thanks for your attention.

Aye SCII, sadly (as others have stated), requires you to go through battle.net in order to play anyone, i.e. there is no LAN support.  Perhaps in the future this will change, but for now, it really kills the incentive/desire to drag your pc hardware to any given location, being that you'd have the same gaming situation if you were sitting at home, connected to yo internets.  I'd still consider comin' out, tho I'm not a serious player by any means.

Anyone playing SCII, add me:  [email protected] to your Real-ID list and we can battle it up!

Tatsu, are you talking about pitting console players against PC players?

I'm not familiar with xpadder but I'm assuming that it allows like a keyboard/mouse input for use on a gaming console?  In either case, it just wouldn't be fair to force one type of player to game against the other as the PC keyboard/mouse has a tremendous advantage over the gamepad.  I'm not saying it wouldn't be fun, but I am saying that for tournament purposes it would definitely not be a level playing field.

I'm also not saying that PC players are superior to console players, it's just a different type of play...although even if I'd never played a game, like say Halo3, give me 15min to map my keys and learn the map and I could probably take out a very good 1v1 console player that was using a gamepad.

In short, we can't mix and match...because if we did, I would participate and take all your lunch money  :-[

Since Rislone felt the need to delete my other post, I will repost now.

I can't say whether one candidate's campaigning strategies was superior over another's as I honestly didn't follow the trail to presidency all that closely.  I do remember seeing constant commercials from both sides, flames flying from either shore.  So did it come down to people believing in the honesty/strength of one candidate over another?

Or maybe it was that every single person in America knew that the "one-heart-beat-away from the presidency", vice-pres was, to say the least, supremely under qualified.  Yes, I speak of Sarah Palin...helping Americans vote for Obama, one wink at a time!

If you don't understand what I'm talking about, check out the vice-presidential debate.

Gamestop in Mustang in HW152.  Fury and I will both be there and will probably snap some photos.

Typically, days that are traditionally slated for family/friends hang-time are terrible dates for game related events.  Any game.  I would venture to say that you'll always see a sharp decline in interest this time of year.  Good luck with future events and if actually played Madden I would have show up 'fo sho!

This just means even MORE people will show up to our official tournament in January.  We'll be using the same pre-registration form (fury is da codemasta) in order to be able to plan ahead for events/locations/concessions.  Dig it people!

Obama seems to be all for strengthening government agencies and McCain was all about contracting government services out.  I work for the FAA, a government entity.  I therefore supported Obama.  Regardless of whether Oklahoma was a red or blue state, Obama still kicked ***.  The majority of the McCain support states ended up being southern states.  No surprise there.

Instead of arguing the color of states, let's concentrate on what X_A is all about, making Oklahoma NOT suck!

Gamer for life baby.

Yeah, I might actually re-activate my account for wotlk and lvl up to 80.  After that, who knows!

So basically we're looking for your input.  It's clear that people had already planned on attending the Halo3/GOW2/SSBB/SCIV tournaments in some capacity and there is definitely still some tourney action going on this month, despite the cancellations.

So what we're looking to do is host our own Plasma Burn tournament to sort of fill in the void that currently exists but we unfortunately don't have the time to do tournaments for ALL those games.  This is where the form on our site comes in.  If it turns out that Halo3 FFA/2v2/4v4 (I realize 2v2 isn't listed but go ahead and select the 4v4 and we can change it on the fly) is the game people want to play the most, based on form submissions, then we'll do that.  Or if it's SSBB that most people sign up for, we'll take that direction instead.

We want to concentrate on one type of game tournament so as to make it as professional and kickass experience as we can make it (given the short notice).  Anyway guys, hope to see some interest soon and if the numbers are there, we'll start planning and making official announcements.  Thanks!
