General Chat / How Elite is Rislone at H3?
« on: June 17, 2008, 10:15:20 pm »
Well  just had to get this sig to show how good I am at Halo. Word

This was partly because I'm starting to like H3 again for some reason (too bad I sold my 360) but will start playing again soon hopefully. According to my finances, maybe sometime next year lol. I also started training my wife, so looks like some people on here better watch out.

Hopefully I can get together with some locals like Dark to help train. I'm off on the weekends for the most part if anyone is interested.

General Chat / Lucky me, I gotta Wii
« on: April 03, 2008, 04:24:47 pm »
Well childrens, I went to Wal-Mart last night and saw that they had two, count em two wiis for sale. I started talking to the guy and found out they had 18 in stock. This is the Wii/WiiPlay bundle for 300 and I didn't have the money on me at the time and woke up early and went to the bank, dragging my little girl along, and managed to get one, YAY!

And the first game that I got??!

Yup that's right. Not Brawl or Paper Mario, but Disney Princess thanks to my daughter. She was extremely excited and couldn't wait for me to get the dang thing set up.

Welcome newcomers

Do not chastise them for not reading the forum etiquette, simply link them to any rules or recommendations on how to properly conduct themselves. Make them feel welcome in the community.
If you don't have anything to say, don't say it.
If a person posts hundreds of posts just saying "LOL" or a few smilies, nobody is going to take that person seriously. For the people that use OKGamers.com, respect comes from post content, not post count.

Stay on topic

These can be very busy forums, so please pay attention to the subject matter of your posts, and check that it still relates to the topic and forum to which you are posting.

Help others
OKGamers.com is a community and works best when people share information.

If you don't know the answer

Check your facts

Confused by a poorly written post?
Ask for clarification, don't mock the author. Post authors vary in age from 13 to 20+ years old, thus levels of education differ significantly. Do not discriminate against someone younger than you. OKGamers is not here to make people feel good about themselves by putting others beneath them.

I finally picked up GoW, can't wait to get home to try it out. Hopefully it won't suck because of my CRT TV, which pretty much renders most games I have played "unplayable". But I get my 42" LCD next month YAY!

General Chat / Are you a potential developer?
« on: December 18, 2007, 07:18:22 pm »
Ok guys I'm going to bring this up again. As we arlready know people in OK that are aspiring developers are at a loss for teams, jobs, and whatnot.

I'm interested in getting a team together on a monthly or bi-monthly basis, I'm looking for 5-10 people that are seriously interested in joining a team effort that will look great on any resume. We will be under very few time constraints to finish a product depending on the knowledge and teamwork, but our goal would be to finish a project that you will be able to show to potential employers.

This will also be an exercise in knowledge sharing and team building. Anyone is welcome to join, all I ask is that you be willing to learn and share with others and show a passion for gaming. Meetings will most likely be held on a Saturday or Sunday evening at my home around 6 pm or so (depending on who wants to come).

We will be looking for a wide variety of talent:

Programmers (any language)
Artists (any discipline)
Sound engineers
Strong mathematics skills
Strong physics skills
Modelers
Voice Actors
Special Effects

The goal here is to make a finished product that shows great ideas and gameplay, we will aspire to make the best game we can possibly, but try not to think this will be a multi-million dollar production that is going to sell millions of copies, it is not .... maybe you never know lol. But mainly just to show a future employer that you have what it takes to finish a product and work together.

Like I said, anyone is welcome to join, no skill is necessary, alot of us will be learning as we go. I want people that are creative and willing to share their ideas and build with others.

Hey guys, we really need some tournaments and events to get posted up in the Tournaments and Events section.  If you know of anything that is going on in your neck of the woods PLEASE post it no matter how small. If your local hobby/game shop is hosting a special TCG sneak peek or if your friend Billy Joe Bob is throwing a LAN, WE WANT TO KNOW!!!

I know we are quickly approaching the holidays and things will start to slow down, but we only have 3 scheduled events as of right now (the other 2 are weekly happenings) so get out there and promote your event, that's what we're here for.

Ok. I've borrowed GH2 from a friend last weekend and I've gone through easy and almost done with last set in medium, and then I tried hard and I got my rear handed to me, tell me whoever plays, how do you hit the orange fret? My line of thought is to slide my fingers down a fret so my index finger is on red, then yellow, blue, orange. Is this a good way to go?

OK got your attention. I'm not one to post crazy spam on here but I wanted to let some of you know about club.live.com through Microsoft. You use your Windows Live ID to log in and it's free as most of you with XBOX Live know since you have to have one to use it. But you play little games that earn you tickets and save them up. Here are just a few prizes that might interest you:

XBOX 360 - 30,000 tickets!
Microsoft Zune - 20,000 tickets!
360 wireless controller
XBOX 360 faceplates
Kameo - 360
Project Gotham Racing - 360
Fable - XBOX

All kinds of good stuff really. I was able to get around 2500 tickets in about 2 weeks at about 300-400 tickets a day and I turned mine in for a controller already. It's really not a bad program considering if you put in some time you get free stuff, but it is slow going and you may scream alot. The whole idea is to use the new Live Search engine by MS.  Here's my order for some of the naysayers.

Your Live Search Club prize order has been confirmed.

Tournament over!  Results, photos and video info here - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=803.msg6850#msg6850

--

How this works:  Every month we have a tournament to help promote the fact this site even exists, and get people to USE the site.
This thread goes through 3 phases - voting to see what we play, pre-registering to know if we should even show up ;), and then it's moved into the aftermath forum, for after tournament comments. As we get the games voted on and decided, and rules straightened out, we do our best to finalize the thread.

**THIS THREAD CHANGES**  Nothing is final till the last week, sometimes the morning of the tournament.  We will not be held responsible for you not being upto date; keep current with the site.  CURRENTLY: we have pre-registered, and will have the tournament on Sunday.  Afterwards we'll move this thread to aftermath as usual.

- Go Vote on Games - Click here to go vote on games  After 14 days, we'll get the games we are playing up, and start taking pre-registration!

PRE-REGISTER - go here and pre-registerWe will cancel any tournament(s) that do not meet the pre-register minimum!

Event -
Monthly Tournaments are held by some of the Tulsa area staff of OKgamers to get the word out about OKgamers.com - a site for Gamers in Oklahoma to post events and tournaments, get players together, and go to find out what's going on in our area.  Tired of hearing Oklahoma has nothing to do?  Want to help out the OKgamers cause of spreading the word, so we actually KNOW what's going on around the area?  -
 - Read more about our Goals
 - Join our staff!
 - Come to our Monthly Meetings to find out what else we are doing to improve Oklahoma. [right before this tournament actually, link below in 'pre-event']

We'll have these tournaments on the second Sunday of every month. [weather/schedule permitting] This is to make it easy to remember, and tell your friends.  Spread the word about the site - because it's a solution for the lack of communication about events for gamers in the area of Oklahoma - not just because we are playing a certain game this month ;)  Want to help in a more official way?  Join the staff!

Come hungry!@#  Joe Momma's Pizza @ 8$ a box will be sold!  Proceeds will go towards OKgamers!@#  We are looking to help pay for our shirts, and get other small tournament supplies and promotions, and most of that will go towards OKgamers!  So come out, be hungry, and help support through pizza!

OKgamers SHIRTS ON SALE! - That's right, official OKgamers shirts will be at this event and ready to be sold, so be ready!  10$ for s-xl, 1$ per X up to 3x.

**Pre-Event - OKgamers Monthly Meetings** - For anyone that does want to be IN THE LOOP on what OKgamers is doing, planning, etc; check our October notes / details thread.   HALO PLAYERS - check that thread specifically.

Official Sponsors:  These are the companies that want to see Oklahoma improve!  As a result, they help out with the venues, prizes, and the Monthly Tournaments themselves; so support them as they support gaming in Oklahoma!

Soul Calibur 3: Arcade Edition
7:30pm - 8pm - Signup

**Please report in by the signup times, even if you've pre-registered.  We look for you once you pre-register, we count you for sure once you've signed up in person.**

Cost -

5$ location cost
This gets you 10$ in tokens. [Tokens are Funhouse tokens, to spend on DDR, Time Crisis, Soul Calibur 3 AE, and other fun video games, as well as ticket games they have at that venue.]

Halo 3 / SSBM / SSB64*:
1$ flyer fee.  We need flyers to help promote that the site even exists, so we charge a 1$ fee.

Soul Calibur 3 - is an arcade game they have at Funhouse and ran by their staff, so it's pay per play.  Note, it runs on the tokens you get from your location fee.

Pot Fees?  If it's Halo 2 - yes (USUALLY).  If it's a first time game?  No.
[ If it's SSBM & SSB64 - location fee only. As decided by players.  ]

How do you get to vote on a game having a fee?  3 people bringing it up before the tournament to a vote for said game.

What do we do when we charge you?
Any location fee keeps our place to have tournaments in business.  If there is a charge beyond the location fee, OKgamers reserves the right to take 1$ to make more flyers that promote the tournaments / events / getting the word out.  All the rest goes towards prizes unless otherwise stated.

Why charge for some games and not others?  This is how you the gamers have voted, see our 'guidelines' link below.

We make no money doing this, that's not what this is about - go read our goals.  This is all volunteer, in the hopes of improving Oklahoma by networking through one site for gamers.  Don't abuse staff, or give us a hard time - as we aren't getting paid to put up with it :)  Why?  See our 'guidelines' link below.

Rules -

HALO 3 - WE NEED RULES.  I've been told the MLG rules aren't as well liked this time around.  I'm willing to work with whatever you guys think is best - just let us know on this thread what you think we should do.  If we can, let's work out the rules on this thread by the time the event rolls around.  If not, we'll go by a majority rules policy, and vote in rules at the event.  (Guys - you want more comp?  People want to know the rules before they show up, so let's figure out the rules NOW, so people can show up knowing that the tourny will be played a way they want.) - Canceled, see above.

Soul Calibur 3 AE - 2 out of 3 games. 3 out of 5 rounds each game.  Double elimination.  Stages at random.

SSB64 - Teams - no items, random level.

SSBM Rules - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=349.0

--

***WE RELY ON THE PLAYERS TO BRING ENOUGH HARDWARE - what is enough?  It's outlined on the pre-registration thread.  We will cancel a game's tournament if we do not have enough hardware pre-registered, and that shows up ON TIME.(We ask hardware to be there typically 20 to 30 minutes before the tournament is set to start)

We reserve the right on ANY game to cancel due to low attendance, make on the spot changes to the tournament rules, such as a change to Single Elimination if there is not enough hardware, or too many people show up [Too many only means we don't have the hardware brought to meet the demand in the time we have - be sure you understand that].  We have to be done no matter what at Funhouse by 11pm, thus the concern.  [Will we?  Only if we HAVE to.  Hardware and you determine that.]  DO WE CHANGE?  Rarely.  But it's up to the players to pre-reg, then actually show up; if things don't happen, we have to adjust :)

Why throw tournaments when we don't have all the hardware?  Why must we pre-register?
For the rest of our Rules - and something you MUST HAVE READ - please review:
General rules and guidelines for any tournament ran by OKgamers Staff

How this works -
We throw a monthly event to get the word out about OKgamers.com - in the process we allow the gamers themselves determine what we host a tournament for: by voting, and providing the hardware to play the games they vote in.  Please don't vote for something you wouldn't want to play in.

If you don't vote - you don't get to whine.

3 votes - for 3 different games.  DO NOT vote for the same game, different format [like 2v2 and 4v4 in Halo].  However yes, you can vote for same series, different version - like SSBM and SSB64.  Why not the same game? Please click here.

You have 14 days to vote - GET TO VOTING!

We will do our best to have the top 3 or more games at the next monthly tournament.  This depends on you the gamers voting them in, and then keeping the tournament happening by pre-registering, to help us know who will show up, and how much hardware will be there after voting ends.  IF our top 2 games are LARGE format or LONG running games, like Halo, SSBM, etc - we reserve the right to cancel the 3rd game.  WE WILL MAKE THIS CLEAR ON THE FINAL THREAD.

Why?  And why just 2?  Any average fighting or driving game - takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to finish, with a average sized crowd.  HALO, SSBM, and some other large format games - take up all the space we have available, and then run 3+ hours.  SO - if we deem it neccessary, we will cancel the third game.  Will we?  Only if we have to.  Keep in mind - we are at a public business, that closes at 11.  We start at 4 because too early, and no one would show up.  We only have so much space...  So, we use these factors and how much hardware we expect to show up, to help determine these calls.

NEW GAMES - as a reward for people ACTUALLY USING THE LOCAL PLAYERS FORUMS, I've included 4 new games based off the local players forums - on what people are looking for.

IF GEARS OF WAR OR HALO 3 IS VOTED IN - WE WILL HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST 2 FULL SETUPS PRE-REGISTERED BEFORE THE EVENT, else we'll cancel it.  GoW has failed to have enough hardware in the past, if it gets voted in, we will not 'hope for the best' - if there is no hardware pre-reg'ed for any game, as the pre-reg always states, we'll cancel that tournament.

Guitar Hero 2, Gears of War [depending on the month] and Madden are not an option this month due to the upcoming local tournaments.  No need to compete ;)  Same thing for Magic, and WoW the card game, see tournament forums.  [Not in the forums you say?  We try, but local businesses sometimes WILL NOT post their events...  Ask us if your having problems finding a event.]

We'll take the top voted for format and go with it.  Halo USED to be considered a given, however nothing is assured though, and as usual any game with the most votes (2 or 200).

Details Details Details:

Not on the list?  Three requests for a game not listed will get it added to the poll.  [**Why would a game not be listed?  We haven't seen / thrown a tournament for it.  OR - we've thrown tournaments for them and they failed - ie. Halo 1.  If you can get the neccessary hardware between you and those you know to pull it off?  We'll happily run it as a addition tournament to our best abilities.  Computer games / popular games on new consoles falls under this - 'pulling it off' would require AT LEAST 3 to 4 consoles, and at least 2 to 3 full sets of controllers for example.**]

How many votes do you need for a game to win?  We like the top 2 to have at least 10 votes or a clear interest and turnout at a previous tournament - any less would put the need for a tournament for that game into question.  We don't want to waste a spot on a game that won't have anyone show up to play it.  Also, for a new game / game we haven't played at a monthly before, we REQUIRE 2 to 3 setups [game/console/controllers/tv] assured to be there.

What if there's a TIE?!  Then we'll let pre-registration hardware pledges determine what gets played.  So, if game A and B tie, and there are 2 setups for game A promised to be brought, and 3 setups for game B promised by the time pre-registration closes?  We'll play game B.  In that event, simply check the tournament thread after the registration closes to see what is played.  If people promise hardware and don't show up with it?  The game may be temporarily banned from monthly voting - we won't throw events and then not have the hardware to satisify people coming.

NO SPECIAL TREATMENT is given to the games we vote on.  You want to play a game?  You get it on the poll by requesting it, having you and your friends that play it vote for it, then if asked, helping to provide the neccessary hardware to run a tournament.  Pure and simple.

DON'T SHOW UP AND EXPECT US TO PLAY IF ITS NOT VOTED IN - we don't care what we played last month, if it's not voted in, we aren't playing.  Please don't show up with hardware in hand and try and think otherwise.  We have enough time and space for what we are doing usually, we don't add games without advertising or notice on the spot, no exceptions.

FAIL TO PRE-REGISTER, FAIL TO HELP THE TOURNAMENT HAPPEN - we are serious on this one.  We've shown up to too many tournaments, and had to cancel or run long because of insufficent equipement - thus we REQUIRE pre-registering.  If you are bringing hardware, let us know.  Else, we'll make the judgement calls based on what we have pre-registered whether or not to have the tournament.  We don't like CANCELLING tournaments, but we cannot have an event without the hardware.  If you don't know - let us make it clear: we are just gamers and people doing this as a hobby to TRY And have a good thing happen; a central website for gamer info in OK - so we know what's going on.  We don't make any money or revenue off this, so no we don't buy or rent systems for events.  Please keep this in mind when considering what you can and cannot bring.

WHY would a game get included in the tournament even though it wasn't voted in?  We had a group with the hardware, space and manpower to run it beyond the 3 game slots we offer.  For example Initial D could be an option, because it'll be sponsored / ran by a local club, and the game is at the venue we have the Monthly tournaments at.  Soul Calibur - is a favorite of the Funhouse staff and owner.

**Remember - with trying to get a 'new' game into the circle, aka a game we've not played at a monthly event, be prepared to bring your hardware, as it's a real concern.  We ask for at least 2 or 3 setups [game/console/controllers/tv] to be provided with a game, so that a tournament can be ran smoothly.  With games we've played it's usually not a problem, but it's important to note, we rely on the goodwill of gamers locally to provide the hardware for the games they want to play - we just provide a venue and structure to the event, all in a effort to let people know OKgamers.com exists, to use it, and to tell others so we get outta the event stone age, and use the internet to know about local events.  Aka, we don't have all the hardware to support all these game types - if you get something new voted in - be prepared for the rules to state you need to bring a setup!
