Official OKgamers.com Rules - SSBB /SC4 / SF4
« on: October 12, 2008, 01:46:19 am »
Super Smash Bros Brawl - aka SSBB - played on the Wii
Super Smash Melee - aka SSBM - played on the Wii
Soul Calibur 4 - aka SCIV, SC4 - played on the PS3
Street Fighter 4 - aka SF4 - played on the PS3  (all tournaments known have moved to SSF - rules coming shortly)

SSBB / SSBM Rules - last event: 3/26 - rules here - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,3423.0.html

CURRENT RULES & PRINTABLE RESOURCES - Can be found in our Media section (NOT INCLUDING SSBB - those rules are ABOVE):
http://www.okgamers.com/media.php

This thread?  Is for DISCUSSION on CHANGING RULES.

( Only play on the 360 pad?  Have an old PS2, but not 3 stick?  There are adapters, go read here for all the converter talk you'd ever need  )

Throwing an event for one of these games?
Feel free to print and use the rules from our official rules resource.  They are 'community standard', and take alot of the guess work outta throwing the event!  WE LINK TO THE MEDIA PAGE - because any updates - goes directly into the PDF's there.

EVERYTHING AFTER THIS - composes conversations, etc - as we built up these rules, or decide to change them.
EVERYTHING AFTER THIS IS OLD - Please ALWAYS see the Links and PDF's above for the latest rules.

-- OLD --

LAST GEN OF SSBB RULES:SSBB RULES = MLG RULES - here's what we know:
OFFICIAL CURRENT MLG RULES HERE - http://pro-circuit.mlgpro.com/pro-circuit/2010/orlando/super-smash-bros-brawl-1v1/rules-settings

UNTIL - the next event, where they might change it.  Since as of the date of this edit Columbus hasn't started pre-reg yet, they might change the rules - we'll adopt what they do, as everyone seems so Pro-MLG they didn't even question it.
Next MLG Events rules - once they fill them in - http://pro-circuit.mlgpro.com/pro-circuit/2010/columbus/super-smash-bros-brawl-1v1/rules-settings

Why the change?  See the last few posts on this thread, as the last discussion was For/Against changing to MLG rules.  Not much of a discussion, but info is still posted.

2 GENERATIONS BACK OF Super Smash Bros Brawl -

HOW TO PLAY YOUR MATCH
Set format (In Order of Procedure):
1. Opponents choose their characters for the first match *
2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure
3. Each player may announce one stage to be banned for
counterpicks of the set
4. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2
5. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List
6. The winner of the previous match chooses their character
7. The loser of the previous match chooses their character
8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches
*Double blind character selection may be called for the first match

- 3 Stock,  8 minute timer
- Items are set to "off" and "none"
- All sets with the possible exception of winner's finals, loser's finals, and the championship are best of 3 matches (best of 5 and above is recommended for any "finals" matches)
- In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors
- No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.
- In team matches, the ports will be determined in a 1221
fashion; whoever wins the RPS will choose first, then the
opposing team will get their ports, and then the teammate of the RPS winner will get the last port.
- If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage.
-  Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned.
-  If a game ends with Bowser doing his suicide klaw and it ends in sudden death, the sudden death will be ignored and that game will count as a win for Bowser.

-  You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.
-  Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e.,
freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.
-  Stalling is banned.

(Stalling: The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while doing an infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Any infinite chain grabs most end quickly after 300% has been reached so as to prevent excessive stalling.)

TEAM MATCHES:  Life Stealing is allowed, Set team attack to ON

--

HOW TO SELECT YOUR STAGE
You must use the stage striking system -
Players take turns striking stages from the start list until only 1 remains; these stages can be counterpicked later in the set.

STARTER STAGES
Battlefield
Final Destination
Smashville
Yoshi's Island
Lylat Cruise
Castle Siege
Delfino
Halberd
PK Stadium 1

COUNTER STAGES
Distant Planet
Frigate Orpheon
Green Hill Zone
Jungle Japes
Luigi's Mansion
Pok

On the smash rules -

A - I was told that major TX events only use 5 starter stages, not the 9 we have been, and should switch to that?

B - MK - how MANY states / countries have banned him?  Can I get a list?

If there is a significant list, and well, true interest, then OKgamers will follow local and other communities wishes, and go with a ban.  Let me know.

i agree with banning mk. he has made the game too unbalanced.  when every fourth-fifth player is using mk because they can win without training too much it makes a bad impression on those who do actually train and hurts the competitive scene as a whole.

If we ban him, it would be all of Oklahoma right? Or could we just ban him here in Tulsa?

Heh.  Despite my perspective that Norman makes the "official Oklahoma power ranking" without really consulting or considering Tulsa players...

...OKgamers doesn't go against a game's community calls for their rules.  If Norman doesn't want it that's a large group of the local SSBB community; also Josh retracts his comments, and well, we don't have any need.  Perhaps if major states, TX, etc - go no MK, then we will.  Else, we wait for the national community to make a call.

Also, OK would be at a disadvantage to all those nasty TX MK's if we ban him, and other regional states don't.  Not gonna cripple our players with that kinda call, ya know?

Yeah, you have a good point. Just not looking forward to a wave of MK's. I wanted to suggest a poll on the site itself to draw attention to it, but i dident think of the TX. I suppose not yet but i feel it really coming on the approuch by the way the SWF have looked recently.

Something that has been brought up by Hanson - shortening the start list.  I'd agree - it's pretty large, but within the initial SBR's rules.  However if TX is running a smaller list, then I'm fine with whatever we need to do to improve any tweaks, etc.  Can someone tell me what 5 we should be using, vs 9?

Battlefield, FD, Smashville, yoshi's island, Pokemon stadium 1.

I'm pretty sure those are the starting 5 they use.

2.0 rules for SSBB - SF4 rules discussion
« Reply #14 on: April 20, 2009, 03:46:18 am »

Because I'm lame, and connect thread contents?  lol

So SSBB rules, JUST AS I GET THEM ALL PRINTED OUT lol, have changed AGAIN.

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=230481

Discuss.  What should we alter / do / etc.

--

SF4 - the rules we used for Jenks were good, but there were some things missing.  Current rules:

Format:    2/3 Rounds, 2/3 Games, Double Elimination, 99 Seconds, No Handicap
Console:    Playstation 3
Rules:    If the players do not agree on a stage within 15 seconds, the match will be random stage select.

This means there are no bans on any characters.

Button Mapping allowed before the beginning of the match(?)
NO PAUSING - MAKE SURE you set your controllers before selecting a character!!

Banned:
Any infinite banned

HOWEVER - there were some things missing, so?

PS3 - yea, we are going to be using that as the standard, but how do we take care of wireless controllers?!@

DOUBLE KO - now what?

Character selection - winner stays?  Doesn't have to?

DISCUSS.
