3.   Topic Creation Guidelines

When creating a topic in the forums, if you follow these simple guidelines, it will make help users be able to find your topic and generate more responses.

Find the forum which best fits your topic
If you place your topic in the appropriate forum section, you will be showing your respect for the community and garner better responses.
Clearly identify your subject matter in your thread title to help others understand your topic more easily.

If you have a question about something
Before posting your question -- search the forum!
Your question or comment may have already been discussed, answered, or resolved previously. You'll be surprised how many people may have already had a similar issue. Save everyone a little time and search.

Tournaments and Events Board
When creating a topic in the Tournaments and Events Board, your thread must follow this format:

City - Event - Date

We do this so others can quickly see what events are happening in their area without having to enter every topic. If you create a thread on this board without following the format, you will be asked to change it within 24 hours, during which time either you or a moderator will change it to fit the format. Keep in mind that moderators are usually busy and, if you do not edit your title to fit the standard before a moderator does, you may have missed out on people who were interested in your tournament. Events pop up quickly and you don't want yours to be buried because it was difficult to read!

Also, make sure that, when you create a topic in this board you include as much information as possible in an organized manner. The more information that you can provide, the better it will educate people on what they need to know without having to ask too many questions. It’s also important to keep it organized. If it’s just a poorly formatted wall of text, then no one is going to want to read it.

If you need an example of what is usually posted, try checking the other topics in the board before posting up yours.

4.   Posting Guidelines

Here is a list of posting guidelines that you are expected to follow on OKGamers.com. Please be aware that, while some of them are not exactly rules, please try to conduct yourself in a mature manner at all times.

Welcome newcomers

Do not chastise them for not reading the forum etiquette, simply link them to any rules or recommendations on how to properly conduct themselves. Make them feel welcome in the community.
If you don't have anything to say, don't say it.
If a person posts hundreds of posts just saying "LOL" or a few smilies, nobody is going to take that person seriously. For the people that use OKGamers.com, respect comes from post content, not post count.

Stay on topic

These can be very busy forums, so please pay attention to the subject matter of your posts, and check that it still relates to the topic and forum to which you are posting.

Help others
OKGamers.com is a community and works best when people share information.

If you don't know the answer
If someone asks a question to which you don't know the answer don't respond by saying, "I don't know." It’s better to not respond or, better still, post the member name of someone who might be able to help.

Check your facts
If you're not certain what you're about to post, check the facts. No one will listen to you if you keep getting things wrong.

Confused by a poorly written post?
Ask for clarification, don't mock the author. Post authors vary in age from 13 to 20+ years old, thus levels of education differ significantly. Do not discriminate against someone younger than you. OKGamers is not here to make people feel good about themselves by putting others beneath them.

Getting complaints about your posts being unclear or poorly written?

Please remember people use this site as a resource and wish to understand what you’re saying. Take the few extra seconds to preview what you've read and make sure it actually makes sense in the context of the conversation topic in the thread your posting to.
Posting something only halfway written gets across no meaning.

How you can make a difference when encountering unsupportive or rude members

Report the user for misconduct or PM a moderator.

Report inappropriate posts
OKGamers prides itself on being a fun, friendly, and supportive forum. If you see any content that is against the OKGamers guidelines, please report the post or send a PM to a moderator.

What to do when encountering spam

Do not reply to it (it takes moderators longer to remove it if you reply) and report the post for misconduct or PM a moderator.

Content You Post on OKGamers.com

Remember that OKGamers is a free online community open to the public and other people will have access to your content. This means that any post you make could be copied, modified, or distributed in some way. When you post content on OKGamers.com, you are giving OKGamers the right to use that content. We might remove it, edit it, or use it for our advertising. Exactly. Couldn't have said it better. We're trying to build bridges here, not fall into the same trap of drawing lines between genders.

Also, please don't start threads discussing why every locked thread was shut down, though feel free to discuss it with the mods if you feel a decision was unfair.

Okay, this thread is starting to slip out of control. We get it. The video game industry is sexist, but this threat has gotten there too.

Locked.

Speaking of Gears of War, I'm a female looking for people to play online with. Anybody interested? My gamer tag is: Rep On Binky

I started playing because my big brother raised me into it. Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Gamegear was the first game I ever played. Followed by Earthworm Jim for Sega Genesis and Worms for pc(:

Sega Genesis for LIFE. Always been a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan, and Earthworm Jim was THE sh*t. Have you played Sonic Generations yet?

Saif is absolutely right. The gaming market has expanded exponentially in the past few years. Nearly half of the world's gaming population is women. I've met a ton of core gamer chicks in Oklahoma. Lots of Smash girls and lots of Halo/CoD clans are around if you look for them, or talk to people. You'll also find that most anime girls tend to double as J-RPG fans.

If you're looking to convert a girl to gaming, you've got to start small. Don't throw Gears of War at her and expect a reaction. If anything, you've got to give Nintendo a lot of credit for helping make gaming socially acceptable for women. Use that. The Wii is your friend and a powerful tool. And even if that demographic skews on the casual, more of them than you would think actually wind up advancing into more traditional core games. Go with something simple like Dr. Mario. I've learned through experience that Dr. Mario is literally crack for female gamers. I've never met a girl who didn't instantly fall in love with at least that single game, and then wound up wanting to play more competitive puzzle titles. If you're wanting to convince a girl to play a fighting game with you, go with Soul Calibur IV (and soon SCV). The "character creation/dress up fighting doll" aspect is a HUGE draw. I know at least 15 girls off the top of my head who love Soul Calibur.

If you're smart, and pick your games intelligently, you can get just about any girl to fall in love with gaming. She may not particularly fall in love with the games you play, but at least she'll understand fully why you love them.

There's a new revival coming out at the start of the year for 360/PS3, likely during the NFL playoffs in January. Just wondering if anybody would be interested in that.

14
Sports/Arcade gamers: Here's one I'll float out there. Any interest in the upcoming NFL Blitz revival? It'll be out by playoffs season and looks to bring a modern revival of that classic late 90s arcade football brigade of blazing players, turbo buttons, and comedic cursing style of play.

Threads merged. No double posting, please. :)
