As OKgamers has done for years, we need to "circle the wagons", sit down, and discuss how we want to go into 2009 - planning, theme discussion, etc.  Check out last years thread.

First off - I like to review 08.  Part of that and planning for 09 was started here:
http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1662.0

Skip down to agenda for more...

WHEN - Sunday, January 18th, 2009 - 1pm to 6pm
WHERE: Downtown Joe Momma's Pizza
112 S. Elgin
Tulsa, OK 74120

WHO:
Staff - as much of what we decide in this meeting will be carried out by staff, and affect them.
Anyone interested in OKgamers, and helping us guide where we are going.
New to the site?  This is a great way to find out what goes on behind the scenes, and how to get more involved.

NOTE - This is a "HALOEZ FREE ZONE"; we understand you love your game, but this is not a "push your game needing more events" meeting.  This is about OKgamers - the site and our efforts, not a pitch your event meeting.

Not in the Tulsa area and can't make it?  We'll do our best to have it streamed online for out of towners.  Check this thread for a link to the broadcast.  Joe Momma's has wireless so we'll do our best.

Fair warning - we run this with a professional or business attitude.  Fun? Sure.  But we keep things on track as we rarely do these, and need to be productive.

AGENDA:
1pm - Settle in, order food and get past introductions.
1:15pm - A brief history of OKgamers, and what we are currently doing
1:30pm - Start the meeting points
5pm - finish up.  If we have alot to discuss, and people interested in going longer, we may.  It's all about getting the points covered.
5:30pm - 6pm - "Action 30" - anyone with a laptop helps us carry out whatever changes and edits we need to carry out on the site.  We finalize the notes, create an action list, and get some quick action on changes.

Points to cover:
Comparing Growth - double the community, traffic well over triple?  Improvements and things not put into practice.  What we did right and where we went wrong, along with what we did about it.  Etc, etc.  How we can avoid such things in the future as well.

Choosing a path - I'm big on 'themes', or goals for a year - 08 was clarification - I think we did some.  I think we need to accomplish that goal even more, but by pushing for "Gamers taking ownership of their communities" - and giving them the tools to do that? Will be 2 birds with one stone, etc.

2009 - What do we change from last year.
2009 - What we are doing, where are we going, how do we get there?
2009 - Theme for the year, how to incorporate that in our actions.

General improvements:
Video - for all of 08, what did we have?  For 09 - what are we striving for?
Street Crew - a real need to step this up, and bring it back to the forefront.
Promotion reposting - organizing and developing VC options?

Staff:
 - Tournament thread of 09 - one thread for the year to follow for various events vs new threads each time.  Unless 3 day con level, most events don't need it's own thread, etc.  Let's staff subscribe and follow one thread.

Tournament Business Sheet:
 - Concept of developing clear cut "we give, volunteers are rewarded" concepts with businesses.   Help clarify irl promo needs, event to event neccessities, etc.

OKgamers.com Official Print Resources:
 - Establish clear section for these resources on Media?  It's own page?
 - Generic Flyer / Flyers for events?  Flyer with several blank lines and info on other common events and OKgamers 'plug'
 - Generic Resource developments - "you are here / welcome" signs, add in signup sheeet, volunteer / staff sign offs, event clarification.
 -

OKgamers.com - Marketing
 - OKgamers 09 shirts - one design, multiple runs?  Different designs, different runs?
 - Dumbing it down - need for a "What you need to know" page?  ("Gamer Definition" lol, Gist on OKG, Staff/volunteering, flyers=life, tourny rules, event thread description)
 - Ways to encourage / create syndication of our events to other sites?  Staff position, volunteering, etc?  (  )

If time -
Review last meetings notes - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1839.0

New points -
To be added as the event comes up.

**UPDATE** - So, I'm going to go ahead and order the shirts / hoodies!  Design should be done by this weekend, and to get an idea of what I SHOULD buy - I'm now goin to ask you all to edit your sizes into your posts.  Also, if your posting for the first time, please read below.  Long story short - please don't spam this thread, and also follow the pattern - post your shirts, add in your shirt sizes needed, and then do a total for the thread! :)  Thanks!!**

Okay - I KNOW this is in the chat forum, but I wanted people to find it easily.  Please - don't spam this thread.

--

OKGAMERS FANS!

We are looking at putting in an order for new shirts and hoodies for 2009!

What we know - black shirts, or hoodies with a zip, or pull over, with a white printing / design.  It'll be a new design which has been in process.  (We are shooting for something awesome, so we can wear them whenever, etc.)  UPDATE - As of right now everyone has liked it that has seen it - but it's not finished / digital yet.  So, we are convertin this thread from '100% interested' into "guaging shirt size and interest" to make sure I buy the right amount of shirts / hoodies / etc.

Shirts - around $10.  If your going much above 2x, it costs more per X.
Hoodies - around $20.  Same on 2x above, etc.  Pullovers cost a bit more than zippers.

What's the plan when we do order?
We'll gather everyone's money, get them printed, and then ship them out.  I'll handle getting Tulsa area out, send the rest down to OKC for R3ligion, etc to hand out, etc - so we can get them to you as close as possible.

WHAT WE ARE DOING HERE -

Have you been wanting to buy an OKgamers shirt?  Well. we are gauging interest in how many shirts / hoodies / sizes we'd need now, so if you are 100% sure you'd want to buy one/some, please post saying 3 things -

Your total interest (x shirts, x hoodies),
Your shirt sizes needed,
The total for the thread (keep a running total for the thread pls?  :))

So - I'm getting at least 3 - so,
My Total (1 hoodie, 2 shirts) - 3
My Sizes needed - 3x
TOTAL - 3

The next person wants one?  My total 1, TOTAL 4.  Etc, etc.

PLEASE KEEP ADDING IT UP SO I CAN TAKE QUICK COUNTS WHEN NEEDED!

--

So yea.  Wanting to buy a OKgamers shirt?  Your chance is coming, help us gauge interest now!  A design will be out soon, and then we'll take the "serious" interest - for now, we are just checking how many would probably want to buy shirts, etc.

**PLEASE UPDATE YOUR POSTS.  PLEASE KEEP THREAD GOING SMOOTHLY - We are shooting to have this done ASAP so we  can have them printed and done by the Mustang Tournament, and can distrobute them there!**

X A

My Total (1 hoodie, 2 shirts) - 3
My Size - 3X
TOTAL - 3

EVENT OVER - go here for aftermath and results - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1983.msg25210#msg25210

Event -
Continuing our 6 month series, January 4th, 2009 Funhouse and OKgamers' will host a Soul Calibur 4 & Super Smash Bro's Brawl Monthly Tournament!

This month will again have an additional 100+ in cash thrown into the pot!  Read more below.

YES gamers, we expect if you show up at our event, to be familiar with everything this thread has pointed out :)
(As, there is no way to KNOW about this event fully, without this thread.  Please take the time to read up!)

Why OKgamers helps?
We want to help out the SC4 and SSBB communities!  Also, monthly tournaments are held by some of the Tulsa area staff of OKgamers to get the word out about OKgamers.com - a site for Gamers & Businesses in Oklahoma to post gamer related events and tournaments, get players together, and go to find out what's going on in our area.  Tired of hearing Oklahoma has nothing to do?  OKgamers proves things are going on all the time!  Want to help out the OKgamers cause of spreading the word, so we actually KNOW what's going on around the area?  -
 - Read more about our Goals
 - Join our staff!
 - Learn how College and HS students can get community service through volunteering with OKgamers!

We'll have these tournaments on the first Sunday of every month. [weather/schedule permitting] This is to make it easy to remember, and tell your friends.  Spread the word about the site - because it's a solution for the lack of communication about events for gamers in the area of Oklahoma!

Location -
Funhouse at the Riverwalk
500 Riverwalk Terrace, Suite 100
74037
Map: Google Maps link

Questions about the new Riverwalk curfew?  Go here.

Games -
Soul Calibur 4 - 1v1
SSBB - 1v1
(SSBB - 2v2 - if we have enough time; did last time, may not next time, etc.  See below on hardware!)

Times -
SSBB 1v1
3:00pm - 3:45pm - Setup and Sign up [HARDWARE NEEDS TO BE HERE BY 3:45!]
4:00pm - Tournament starts, unless setting up hardware/bracket [ WE WILL NOT WAIT!  Be on-time, back and ready @ 4pm please :) ]

6:30pm - Tournament Starts, unless setting up hardware/bracket

SSBB 2v2
AFTER SSBB 1v1.  If we can get SSBB 1v1 done by around 8, we'll consider doing a 2v2, after assessing interest, and hardware present; it all comes down to having enough machines to do it quickly - both the 1v1, and then the 2v2.

PRIZES -
SC4 - 60/30/10 of pot
SSBB 1v1 - 60/30/10 of pot
(SSBB 2v2 will be free, unless all teams agree otherwise.)

$100 will be going into the pots for these games!  Our first event 100$ was thrown in by Funhouse, and just 1st place for SSBB got over $200!  More people show up, the POT GOES UP!

Cost -
Like most events, there is a location fee, and tournament fees.  Spectating?  Free.

5$ location cost - for those playing in a tournament (Think of it as the way to give back to them for hosting us.)
This gets you 10$ in tokens. [Tokens are Funhouse tokens, to spend on DDR, Initial D, Time Crisis, Soul Calibur 2, and other fun video games, as well as ticket games they have at that venue.] YOU ONLY PAY LOCATION ONCE AN EVENT.

5$ tournament pot cost.  Any tournament you play in cost 5$, and goes into the pot for 1-3rd.

TOTAL? =
Playing in SSBB 1v1 or SC4 tournament?  5 for location, 5 for tourny = $10
Playing in both SSBB 1v1 and SC4 tournaments? 5 for location, 10 for tournys = $15

OKgamers staff make no money doing this, that's not what this is about - go read our goals.  This is all volunteer, in the hopes of improving Oklahoma by networking through one site for gamers.  Don't abuse staff, or give us a hard time - as we aren't getting paid to put up with it :)

SPECTATORS -
This is a public location, and of course watching is free.  However, only tournament entrants, and staff may use the machines.  Spectators may watch, but are asked to leave the machines to those playing.

Soul Calibur 4 Rules:
Time: 60 Seconds, 2 out of 3 matches, 3 out of 5 for finals.
Pausing forfeits the ROUND, Soft-Reset forfeits the MATCH
Button Mapping allowed before the beginning of the match
NO PAUSING - MAKE SURE you set your controllers before selecting a character!!

Allowed:
Edit Colors

Banned:
BONUS CHARACTERS (Shura, etc) - banned
Algol / Yoda - banned
Any infinite banned
Custom and "Customized" characters banned.

SSBB Rules -
* 3 stock 8 minute time limit
if there isn't a winner by the end of the time limit, then the winner is whoever has the most stocks. If stocks are tied it is whoever has LESS damage.
* all items are turned off
* if there are teams then team attack is ON

* Remaining rules for SC4 / SSBB can be found here - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1770.0 *

**IF A QUESTION ON RULES ARRISES BEFORE A MATCH STARTS, FIND A STAFF MEMBER!**
Let us resolve the rules, and get you going again!

What you need:
We seriously suggest you bring your own controllers.  We will do our best to have a few extra around, but it's always best to bring your own - less concern about your performance as well :)

If you can bring hardware, we would appreciate it!  A "Setup" consists of a TV, console, game, controllers if possible and save data.  TV - 19" or above, tube preferrably, and controller if you can't change to input on the front.  SC and SSBB - FULLY UNLOCKED (SC = all available, SSBB 'more rules' and all 35 characters, and levels), and any controllers would be appreciated, however we encourage people to bring their own.  And of course, the game, console and any required cables.

WANT TO HELP US CAPTURE THE EVENT TO PUT ONLINE?  Bring a VCR!!

How you should act:
We are at a public arcade - please respect all around you, and remember your in public - so act accordingly.

Spectators and Players - absolutely NO interference during a tournament match.  No harrasing your friends or their opponent, messing with controllers or settings, etc.  When 2 people play each other, they are to be respected, and observed, not distrurbed.  Please do not test us on this :)

What else can you do - Well, spread the word!  Remember, not everyone finds a flyer or knows about OKgamers!

***REMEMBER, WE RELY ON THE PLAYERS TO BRING ENOUGH HARDWARE - what is enough?  At least 2 to 3 setups for SC4, and 5 to 6 for SSBB.  We will cancel a game's tournament if we do not have enough hardware that shows up ON TIME.(We ask hardware to be there typically 20 to 30 minutes before the tournament is set to start, see times.)  Why is this? OKgamers.com can only organizes events, yet as the front page explains we are not a company, nor do the venues we work with have everything.  Help us help you have a great event!

We reserve the right on ANY game to make on the spot changes to the tournament rules, such as a change to Single Elimination if there is not enough hardware, or too many people show up ["Too many" only determined by us not having the hardware brought to meet the demand in the time we have - be sure you understand that].  We have to be done no matter what at Funhouse by 11pm, thus the concern.  [Will we change?  Only if we HAVE to.  Hardware and you determine that.]

Sharpen up your game, we'll see you soon!

Go out to your blogs and your websites and your myspaces - and link back to this thread - it helps - trust me.  Also, check out myspace and add us!

Can you please email me your tio files from any event you’ve ran since August?  These are going into a database, and well, I'm needing to collect them and send them off.  Specifically I'm wanting SSBB, FPS's, and any other video game tournaments ran since July - so August on.

Please make sure they are finished out – aka, there is a “red” final player.  Brackets done, winner decided so they can be tallied.  If you can try and ‘universalize’ the names or handles, that’d help, but we can do that after everything is thrown in as well.

One note of importance – please only send tournament files (.tio’s) that are from events you’ve ran that were according to community standards.  Aka, rules that are established like we’ve posted in the Planning forum for SC4 and SSBB, etc.

Did you attend an event that wasn't ran with TIO?  Have the organizer contact me so we can work that out next time!

Events covered so far:
Last 2 FH monthlies
Joe Momma's downtown
Defcon

Needing that I know of -
Tokyo in Tulsa (waiting on matt lol)
Oh SNAP
HxC events
SSBB events in Stillwater, Norman, OKC

I'd like to get these sent off in the next few days, so please spread the word!

So - seriously, this decision is driving me crazy - help anyone?  It's all about Black Friday and laptops and other things...

( Why do you care?  The faster the laptop, the more I can get done with OKg ;) )

Option 1 - go to BF, freeze, lose many many hours to get a good deal.
Option 2 - go to preBF, spend a bit more, get better specs?! (avoid wait, work and make money...)
Option 3 - screw it all, and wait to buy new better awesome laptop...

My overall "BF plans" were to do go get these things -
NEEDS -
2 I already got online, a external hdd, and cheap usb drive.
Laptop - pending investigation...
Cheap DVDR's - can probably get pre-bf?

Wants -
Need duel panel lcds - BestBuy for 120 on Samsung looks good...
Thin awesome camera - they might not sell out before 6am...

Which this Option 1 was looking fine till I found this - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9999101400050006&type=product&id=pcmprd101500050006&ref=10&loc=01

Then I realized maybe I SHOULD do this before / instead of BF... I have already gotten my external and thumb drives - and that deal seems really worth the extra 120$ vs the door buster...

PreBF laptop vs BF laptop
HDD - 320gig vs 250gig
Screen - 16 vs 15.4
Graphics - 3100 vs 1500? Whatever that means it seems important :)
Wireless - BGN - vs just bg...

All for 120 more... Man.

Then again - why go through all this trouble for a potential doubling of power, when I can get alot more later?  I mean BF = losing time with friends, food, and working time.

I need help, because then kicks in Option 3 - for 600$ should I be looking at another model though?  Does anyone have time to research for me :) lool

I need direction here... Basically - if I knew what to do on the laptop situation - buy now, or wait for bf, or wait longer, I'd be better off. Maybe I should just build up millions and buy a kick butt laptop -_- oi.

If I do wait - then I can afford an even better laptop, but what about the deals now?  Maybe I just need to Opt3 - because I do do ALL my work on Laptop now for clients out of office, and having a kick butt laptop would be logical...  Then I'd have to find out what's logical though - 1200, 2000?  2000+?  Oi.  oi oi oi help.

So - we've got the issue of more 360's than ps3s in Tulsa, and OK in general.  However, the SC community backs ps3s for now...

...so - should we try and buck the trend? Does it matter to you anyway?

Thus the poll for a month.  Give feedback on what you think.  And if your a joystick user - make sure you vote accordingly, as well, good sticks are all we need!

PLEASE ONLY VOTE IF YOU GO TO AND/OR WOULD PLAY IN SC TOURNAMENTS :)
(AKA - please don't spam our results guys, if you don't play SC, please don't weigh in on this vote.)

I literally just stumbled into it. True, the "Official" SC community backs PS3, but I know alot of you out there are 360 users, and even myself need to technically pick it up ;)  So thought I'd post!

That's right sports fans, we'll be on TV in the Tulsa area!  Up Late is hosted by Tulsa's own Ben Sumner, and after running into them at the recent free movie that PTDmagazine.com hosted, they want us out to interview!

The plan right now is for us to be on the Nov 29th show, so set your DVR's!  After that they are currently planning on coming out to events to tape as well!

For more information on the show check out:

I was reading on caliburforum.com - and saw mention of LCD's needing at least 8ms or better to avoid lag...

...is this true?

With Black Friday close to upon us, and well, the rumor that LCD's are going to be dropping, more and more people may look into purchasing monitors to travel with to events, etc.  I'd like to get the facts straight so we can have an informed decision for tournaments, as well as players.  If anyone has info - let's get going.

General Chat / Spamming / bots on the site - What to do when you see it
« on: November 13, 2008, 02:33:50 am »

Long story short - I've been told by Furyswrath that Captcha - or those annoying letters that you type in to prove you are human?  Have been "Defeated" by spammers.  Thus - we've had issues on the forums.

If you see a suspicious thread? Please just use the "notify moderator" link on that post.  It's quick, and goes to those that need to get it.

ALSO - as business owners, gamers, etc - if you ever have issues with a post or content put up on the site - that is also the system to use for that.  It's quick, and we get it.  Of course, PLEASE DO NOT ABUSE THIS :)

Sorry for the issues, and we'll do our best to keep the site clean!  We appreciate the help!

DATE - unknown, I'll assume around the second Saturday or so of the month of December - might get skipped to Jan depending on stuff, we'll see and be accurate on reports before posting an actual thread.

2 games or 1?  If a FPS wins, probably 1.  If a fighter, probably 2, simply because we have plenty of space.

Joe Momma's downtown location is opening up in November!  As a result, they now are hosting Monthly events!  What game? Well that's up to you guys via the poll above!  We may extend the poll if the date pushes back into Jan, but for now - 2 weeks, 3 votes, only vote for what you'd come to!

While they are open to H3 or another FPS reoccuring, I've stated that numbers have been too low on hardware responses for me to feel comfortable doing that without healthy poll results; so we'll just go with whatever else wins each month, etc if H3 or a FPS get's low hardware response.

Like all tournaments OKgamers organizes for gaming communities - we'll need hardware.  Fighting games need at least 3 to 4 setups, shooters need a minimum of 8, GH3 at least 4, etc.  While the poll will probably be the final word, hardware postings will help sway things.

HALO/FPS PLAYERS - what's healthy?  30+ votes for the winning type, and at least 8 to 16 people saying they can bring hardware - as in full setups.  If Halo anything wins with 20 votes, and the next one has 18, we'll go with the next one.  Simply put - all FPS's have had low results in Tulsa, so I don't want to organize an event and have the low hardware affect another event.

SSBB / SC4 - the monthlies at FH won't be going away - so you've already got your game showing up.  However - you want another?  We'd do it if you can win the poll!

Please - only vote for games you'd come to for a tournament!  And, if you have a setup you can bring, let us know!

For games to be added, they need 3 recommendations on this thread.

Yes - this will be a volunteering opportunity, and I'll be putting it up on Volunteer Central!

In the end? Vote, you've got 2 weeks.  FPS's - in the Tulsa area after H3 came out, getting hardware has always been a problem.  I was the one to suggest your game for consideration, but once again, we've got to have enough hardware to support the tournament.  Even if a game is voted in and has plenty of promises of hardware - if we don't have enough hardware actually show up, we'll change the format - say 4v4 to 2v2, etc.

General Chat / Gears of War 2 - MIDNIGHT LAUNCH - OKgamers Flyer Runs here
« on: November 06, 2008, 06:29:43 pm »
So - be you staff, or simply members who believe in the site, we are organizing what we are doing and where we are all going!

HOW TO GET FLYERS:
Funhouse on the Riverwalk - 96th and Riverside in Tulsa - has a whole bunch, ask for Zack :)
X A - me, will be going to several locations in Tulsa, simply hit me up when I'm there, or work with me to find out when I'll be there.  (Starting at promenade around 10:30, going to BA from there.)
OKC - R3ligion has a bunch.
Print your own - http://www.okgamers.com/media.php - there is a pdf of flyers you can print out :)

HANDING OUT FLYERS:
You should try and hit your location as close to 12am as possible, to get the maximum amount of people.  ALSO - please remember even if the site IS for gamers by gamers, it's still technically soliciting to talk to any group.  So, when you get to a location find a manager, and introduce yourself, and what you'd like to do.  Your a gamer, and would like to take a second to give flyers to any gamers interested.  OKgamers.com is a site for gamers by gamers to find out about events in the Oklahoma area - and businesses to post to get the word out as well!  Once they know what the site is if they didn't, simply ask if you can hand out flyers?

PREVIOUS LAUNCHES:
Halo 3 - we gave out flyers at every location we went to other than Wal-marts.  (No soliciting inside, period.)  Just remember, you should talk to managers and get their blessings first.  We aren't making money, it's for gamers by gamers - usually no problems.  If they say no? Then thank them for their time and leave nicely.  It's rare, but hey, be nice is all that matters at that point :)

Are Best Buys or any other chains doing things? - Nope.

WHAT:
About Meetings - OKgamers - is a site for gamers in Oklahoma.  As a result, we gather together and have meetings to get feedback and input from local gamers and staff as to where we should go with situations, etc.    (Should you attend? See "WHO" below.)

About This Meeting
As the last meeting - this needs to serve to clear up any 2008 efforts, and answer questions people have.  Think - tieing up loose strings, and getting ready to move into our planning for 09.  (09 planning Meeting - on a Sunday, 12/21st - 1/18 area lol, staff reviewing dates now.)

WHEN: November 23rd, 2008 - Sunday, 1pm
WHERE: Downtown Joe Momma's Pizza
112 S. Elgin
Tulsa, OK 74120
[ Google Maps Link ]

WHO:
Anyone interested in the points being discussed.
New to the site?  This is a great way to find out what goes on behind the scenes, and how to get more involved.
STAFF - Are encouraged to attend if possible.
NO HALOEZ - this is not a "push your game needing more events" meeting.  This is about OKgamers - the site and our efforts, not a pitch your event meeting Smiley

Not in the Tulsa area and can't make it?  We'll do our best to have it streamed online for out of towners.  Check this thread for a link to the broadcast.  If we have problems with the resturants wireless, etc, we won't be able to post, but will do our best.

Fair warning - we run this with a professional or business attitude.  Fun? Sure.  But we keep things on track as we rarely do these, and need to be productive.

IF YOU PLAN ON ATTENDING THE 09 MEETING - TRY AND MAKE THIS ONE TOO - as part of 'tieing up strings' is getting people into the curve, and ready to think forwards, and not backwards.  We've given 3 weeks on this, so please ask off work, etc Wink

1pm - Settle in, order food and get past introductions.
1:15pm - A brief history of OKgamers, and what we are currently doing
