Staff, casual gamers, people interested in helping out:

We do meet every month - but THIS MONTH IS DIFFERENT -
First off - it's our 'half way through ' check up point...
Second, I really want to take a bold direction with OKgamers; basically real blunt statements and positions to REALLY get attention. Change - one way or another!

WHAT IS GOING DOWN IN AUGUST:
When - August 12th 130pm to 345pmish.
Where - Borders @ 81st and Yale

What - This is our 'half year check up' - points to be discussed:

Flyers & Marketing - radical turn or no?
Site front page effectiveness - what to ditch, come back to
Content - new things to add to the site?
SPONSORSHIP RUN - NVGA season - do we want to do it?  Would it even be worth it?
Event Strengh - can we do 2 3 day events?  How does OKgamers choose by - best for friends, best from a 'business perspective', etc

Please go ahead and let me know you are coming!

So, sometime over the weekend, probably the bulk of stuff on Saturday afternoon, I will be upgrading the forums, and improving graphics.

If you can't get onto the site?  Don't be alarmed.

If the site looks different?  Don't be alarmed.

If you can't find your halo playing friends?  Don't be alarmed, Pr1mo says they all died.

Carry on.

How this works:  Every month we have a tournament to help promote the fact this site even exists, and get people to USE the site.
This thread goes through 3 phases - voting to see what we play, pre-registering to know if we should even show up ;), and then it's moved into the aftermath forum, for after tournament comments.

As we get the games voted on and decided, and rules straightened out, we do our best to finalize the thread.

**THIS THREAD CHANGES**  Nothing is final till the last week, sometimes the morning of the tournament.  We will not be held responsible for you not being upto date; keep current with the site.  CURRENTLY: we are Pre-registering to see what tournaments we'll actually have, and what kind of turn out!

Go Vote on Games - Click here to go vote on games  After 16 days, we'll get the games we are playing up, and start taking pre-registration!
Pre-registration - Is up!  GO PRE-REGISTER NOW!  Click Here! http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=696.0
If we don't have enough pre-registered for a tourny, we cancel that tourny, fyi ;)

Event -
Monthly Tournaments are held by some of the Tulsa area staff of OKgamers to get the word out about OKgamers.com - a site for Gamers in Oklahoma to post events and tournaments, get players together, and go to find out what's going on in our area.  Tired of hearing Oklahoma has nothing to do?  Want to help out the OKgamers cause of spreading the word, so we actually KNOW what's going on around the area?  -
 - Read more about our Goals
 - Join our staff!
 - Come to our Monthly Meetings to find out what else we are doing to improve Oklahoma. [right before this tournament actually, link below in 'pre-event']

We'll have these tournaments on the second Sunday of every month. [weather/schedule permitting] This is to make it easy to remember, and tell your friends.  Spread the word about the site - because it's a solution for the lack of communication about events for gamers in the area of Oklahoma - not just because we are playing a certain game this month ;)  Want to help in a more official way?  Join the staff!

Swing Vote Games!  Something new we are starting to insure a new game at every Monthly tournament - This month's swing game is listed below - to see what's coming up, or why we decided to do this, click here.

Come hungry!@#  Joe Momma's Pizza @ 8$ a box will be sold!  Proceeds will go towards OKgamers!@#  We are looking to help pay for our shirts, and get other small tournament supplies and promotions, and most of that will go towards OKgamers!  So come out, be hungry, and help support through pizza!

OKgamers SHIRTS ON SALE! - That's right, official OKgamers shirts will be at this event and ready to be sold, so be ready!  10$ for s-xl, 1$ per X up to 3x.

**Pre-Event - Monthly Meetings** - For anyone that does want to be IN THE LOOP on what OKgamers is doing, planning, etc; check our August notes / details thread. This month is our '6 month checkup' - so it's a important meet, please make it out!

Official Sponsors:  These are the companies that want to see Oklahoma improve!  As a result, they help out with the venues, prizes, and the Monthly Tournaments themselves; so support them as they support gaming in Oklahoma!

SC2 / Mario Kart 64 / SSBM - location fee only.
Soul Calibur AE - pay per play.
[ If it's SSBM & SSB64 - location fee only. As decided by players.  ]

What do we do when we charge you?
Any location fee keeps our place to have tournaments in business.  If there is a charge beyond the location fee, OKgamers reserves the right to take 1$ to make more flyers that promote the tournaments / events / getting the word out.  All the rest goes towards prizes unless otherwise stated.

Why charge for some games and not others?  This is how you the gamers have voted, see our 'guidelines' link below.

We make no money doing this, that's not what this is about - go read our goals.  This is all volunteer, in the hopes of improving Oklahoma by networking through one site for gamers.  Don't abuse staff, or give us a hard time - as we aren't getting paid to put up with it :)  Why?  See our 'guidelines' link below.

Rules -

Mario Kart 64 - We need the rules!
SSBM Rules - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=349.0
SC2 / SC3 - 3 out of 5 rounds, 2 out of 3 games, double elim.

***WE RELY ON THE PLAYERS TO BRING ENOUGH HARDWARE - what is enough?  It's outlined on the pre-registration thread.  We will cancel a game's tournament if we do not have enough hardware pre-registered, and that shows up ON TIME.(We ask hardware to be there typically 20 to 30 minutes before the tournament is set to start)

We reserve the right on ANY game to make on the spot changes to the tournament rules, such as a change to Single Elimination if there is not enough hardware, or too many people show up [Too many only means we don't have the hardware brought to meet the demand in the time we have - be sure you understand that].  We have to be done no matter what at Funhouse by 11pm, thus the concern.  [Will we?  Only if we HAVE to.  Hardware and you determine that.]

Why throw tournaments when we don't have all the hardware?  Why must we pre-register?
For the rest of our Rules - and something you MUST HAVE READ - please review:
General rules and guidelines for any tournament ran by OKgamers

[ As proven last month, 2 votes or 20 - people still show up... However?  VOTE - so we won't have complaints later ;)
ALSO - VOTE OR NOT - you HAVE TO PRE-REGISTER so we know people are actually showing up...  So please come back after the 27th or so, and pre-register!@#]

Actual Tournament thread Here.  Read that thread thoroughly before asking questions please.

How this works -
We throw a monthly event to get the word out about OKgamers.com - in the process we allow the gamers themselves determine what we host a tournament for: by voting, and providing the hardware to play the games they vote in.  Please don't vote for something you wouldn't want to play in.

If you don't vote - you don't get to whine.

2 votes - for 2 different games.  DO NOT vote for the same game, different format [like 2v2 and 4v4 in Halo].  However yes, you can vote for same series, different version - like SSBM and SSB64.

You have 16 days to vote - GET TO VOTING!

As usual, we will do our best to have the top 2 or more games at the next monthly tournament.  This depends on you the gamers voting them in, and then keeping the tournament happening by pre-registering, to help us know who will show up, and how much hardware will be there after voting ends.

Why 2, and not 3?  Third game is our swing vote game.

--
Guitar Hero 2, Gears of War and Madden are not an option this month due to the upcoming local tournaments.  No need to compete ;)  Same thing for Magic, and WoW the card game, see tournament forums.
--

We'll take the top voted for format and go with it.  Halo USED to be considered a given, however nothing is assured though, and as usual any game with the most votes (2 or 200).

Not on the list?  Three requests for a game not listed will get it added to the poll.  [**Why would a game not be listed?  We haven't seen / thrown a tournament for it.  OR - we've thrown tournaments for them and they failed - ie. Halo 1.  If you can get the neccessary hardware between you and those you know to pull it off?  We'll happily run it as a addition tournament to our best abilities.  Computer games / popular games on new consoles falls under this - 'pulling it off' would require AT LEAST 3 to 4 consoles, and at least 2 to 3 full sets of controllers for example.**]

How many votes do you need for a game to win?  We like the top 2 to have at least 10 votes or a clear interest and turnout at a previous tournament - any less would put the need for a tournament for that game into question.  We don't want to waste a spot on a game that won't have anyone show up to play it.  Also, for a new game / game we haven't played at a monthly before, we REQUIRE 2 to 3 setups [game/console/controllers/tv] assured to be there.

What if there's a TIE?!  Then we'll let pre-registration hardware pledges determine what gets played.  So, if game A and B tie, and there are 2 setups for game A promised to be brought, and 3 setups for game B promised by the time pre-registration closes?  We'll play game B.  In that event, simply check the tournament thread after the registration closes to see what is played.  If people promise hardware and don't show up with it?  The game may be temporarily banned from monthly voting - we won't throw events and then not have the hardware to satisify people coming.

NO SPECIAL TREATMENT is given to the games we vote on.  You want to play a game?  You get it on the poll by requesting it, having you and your friends that play it vote for it, then if asked, helping to provide the neccessary hardware to run a tournament.  Pure and simple.

DON'T SHOW UP AND EXPECT US TO PLAY IF ITS NOT VOTED IN - we don't care what we played last month, if it's not voted in, we aren't playing.  Please don't show up with hardware in hand and try and think otherwise.  We have enough time and space for what we are doing usually, we don't add games without advertising or notice on the spot, no exceptions.

WHY would a game get played even though it wasn't voted for?  We had the hardware, space and manpower to run it beyond the 3 game slots we offer.  For example Initial D could be an option, because it'll be sponsored / ran by a local club, and the game is at the venue we have the Monthly tournaments at.  Soul Calibur - is a favorite of the Funhouse staff and owner.

**Remember - with trying to get a 'new' game into the circle, aka a game we've not played at a monthly event, be prepared to bring your hardware, as it's a real concern.  We ask for at least 2 or 3 setups [game/console/controllers/tv] to be provided with a game, so that a tournament can be ran smoothly.  With games we've played it's usually not a problem, but it's important to note, we rely on the goodwill of gamers locally to provide the hardware for the games they want to play - we just provide a venue and structure to the event, all in a effort to let people know OKgamers.com exists, to use it, and to tell others so we get outta the event stone age, and use the internet to know about local events.  Aka, we don't have all the hardware to support all these game types - if you get something new voted in - be prepared for the rules to state you need to bring a setup!

This thread is to Pre-Register for the OKgamers.com Monthly Tournament series. For all details other than Pre-Registration, go to the current tournament thread: http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=580.0

**REGISTRATION CLOSES AS OF SATURDAY, JUNE THE 7TH AT 8PM CENTRAL**
Pre-Registration

WHY PRE-REGISTER? - If you don't, we won't know anyone is coming, and we'll cancel that tourny
Required #'s of players to pre-register & hardware needs:

SSB64 2v2 - 8 people  [with at least 2 setups]
SSBM 1v1 - 8 people  [with at least 2 setups]
Naruto 4 1v1 - 4 people  [with at least 1 setup]

*setup = A TV, the console and game, and anything else needed; memory card, maybe extra controllers, etc*

[ Keep in mind, yes last tournament WAS CANCELLED because of lack of pre-registration.  This tournament, due to late pre-registration thread going up, we won't be as strict and will show up for this tournament no matter what...  AUGUST - if people don't pre-register though, we'll go back to no tournament.  We throw the event to get the word out about the site, all we ask is you use the site to pre-register, so we know we are at least making a difference :) ]

You can sign up yourself and one other person in the pre-register, making a total of two people that you are signing up, if you have alot of friends that want to go TELL THEM ABOUT THE SITE AND HAVE THEM SIGN UP.  It seems simple, but the more people that use it, the more the site becomes worth while.

Staff can sign up more than 2.

We throw these tournaments to get the word out about the site, so that hopefully people use the site, it becomes a resource, and there was some purpose in us putting our time and efforts into it :)  You know, making Oklahoma a better place and all that jazz.

**THIS THREAD IS ONLY FOR PRE-REGISTRATION POSTS** Any duplicate posts, or chat will be edited out.  Please keep this thread clean, it's easier for us to see what's going on / print out for use later.

Games?
SSB64 / SSBM / Naruto 4 players MUST bring hardware (at least controllers)!  See above and the main thread on that.  The hardware brought MUST br pre-register so we know what we'll have.

Games / Cost / Format / signup times / are all covered in the actual tournament thread, check for that link above!

To Pre-register:

IN ORDER TO PRE-REGISTER, YOU MUST USE THE CORRECT FORMAT AND ONLY BE SIGNING UP YOURSELF AND ONE OTHER

Format your post this way:

NAME:
TEAM NAME:  (if applicable)
GAME(S) PLAYING:
EQUIPMENT: What you are bringing, and details on items.
**YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER** for console games.
Details = TVs [what sizes? How many], the games, like SSB64 or SSBM.  The consoles coming, n64's, Xboxes, power strips, etc.

***AFTER YOU POST*** - make sure and look at your post.  Does it look like everyone elses?  Good!  If not, you may get a pm from a mod asking you to fix it.  WE REQUIRE the format, so it's easy to read while we are throwing the tournament.  WE REQUIRE the 2 person limit on pre-registration, because we throw these only to get the word out about OKgamers.com - and the more people that use the site, and pre-register, and so forth, the more the word will get out.  Thank you, and we'll see you at the tournament!  [[Have you checked out the forums?  Don't miss out on something because you didn't take a second to see what other tournaments, events, or community chat is going on!]]

**On Preparing for the tournament:**

If you are coming for a team game - HAVE A TEAM NAME MADE UP.

BRING what you pre-registered - show up ON TIME.

Hardware / Controllers / etc - mark it ahead of time!  Take some tape, and mark your console, and other hardware your bringing, this helps!

--

Please pay close attention to the forums and any polls that require input. More traffic equals a better chance for people to get what they want. Not happy with something?  We provide ways to get your feedback, use them!  Better yet, use the site for what it's meant to: Host your own tournament, post about it on OKgamers.com and spread the word!  We'd love to make everyone happy, but sometimes we just can't. Get it? Got it? Good!

[If you do host your own tournament?  PLEASE POST ABOUT IT.  Remember, we aren't out to compete with others or throw tournaments to make money.  We make no money.  We only want to get the word out about the site, so that it can be used, Oklahoma can be better networked, and we all end up more informed about events!  So if you know about a event, post it!]

OKgamers staff and crew along with the employees of Funhouse can not be responsible for lost or stolen items. We can not express our need for you to mark and watch all of your belongings more. We as the staff will do what we can to watch over the stuff the best we can, but you are still responsible.

Thread Archives / OKgamers flyer - version 2 - Thoughts?
« on: June 25, 2007, 03:47:05 pm »
Yea, this SHOULD go in the 'site improvements' forum, but HARDLY ANY OF YOU CHECK THAT OBVIOUSLY - so here we go -

Thoughts?  Content changes Daniel?  Yea.  Let me know.

[This is a shift from our old flyers.  Our old flyers - were just trying to get the word out about the site, when hardly anything was getting posted; so we talked mainly about what we were doing...  NOW - there are things being posted, so the new flyers are meant to be more BOLD / blunt, and be more about what's actually getting posted, etc, while still giving our monthlies and sponsors a bit of space as well...]

So yea.  Thoughts?

X A

[Edits made - monthly spelling error caught.  Faded the seperator line on comingup/monthly.  General tweaks to layout, spacing...]

248

I bring this up - because of my itch to merge titles like "DOA players" and "Tulsa doa players what characters do you use", same for the SC thread, etc, etc, and OF COURSE the endless halo threads - in the Local Players forums, and others...

...should we be this strict?

I honestly feel - whatever we need to do to keep the threads / forum useful?  We should do.  Having 4 threads about halo players hooking up - is useless.  Same for SC, DOA, anything else, etc.

What are your thoughts?

[this thread will become the reference point for why your thread was merged, if we don't get any that disagree heh]

Thread Archives / Soul Calibur 4 Release Updates section opened!
« on: June 13, 2007, 04:08:19 pm »

So - SC4 has been confirmed.  As a result, we've opened up a release updates section like there used to be back in the day for SC3, on my personal site.  Also, we've got our first Soul Calibur 4 teaser vid!

http://www.okgamers.com/soulcalibur4

It's short, and mainly focuses on the pretty pretty textures...  BUT - now we at least know - PS3, and xbox 360...

Anyway - pretty exciting stuff!

NO SPECIAL TREATMENT is given to the games we vote on.  You want to play a game?  You get it on the poll by requesting it, having you and your friends that play it vote for it, then if asked, helping to provide the neccessary hardware to run a tournament.  Pure and simple.

**REGISTRATION CLOSES AS OF SATURDAY, JUNE THE 9TH AT 11PM CENTRAL**

**Reg closed - TOURNAMENT CANCELLED due to lack of entry**
Pre-Registration

WHY PRE-REGISTER? - If you don't, we won't know anyone is coming, and we'll cancel that tourny
Required #'s of players to pre-register & hardware needs:

Halo 2 FFA - 8  [with at least 8 setups]
SSBM 1v1 - 8  [with at least 2 setups]
DOA 4 1v1 - 4  [with at least 1 setup]

*setup = A TV, the console and game, and anything else needed; memory card, maybe extra controlers, etc*

Games?
Halo 2 / SSBM / DOA 4 players MUST bring hardware!

How many], the games, like HALO2 or SSBM.

Kinda scary actually heh.

Anyway - this will be my first 'akon' or anime convention of any real size at all.  I am really more excited about the potential of playing some SC3 comp than anything else sadly -_-

Anyone else going?
