***NOTE - DO NOT VOTE MORE THAN ONCE for one game!  No voting for both 1v1 and 2v2 on the same game***

As usual, we will do our best to have the top 3 or more games at the next monthly tournament.

Halo - is practically a given.  We'll take the top voted for format and go with it.

Soul Calibur 3 / SSB 64 - we have a favor being called in on, Ashley / aka Bunni / aka Smashly will be in town for this one, so we are probably going to do those 2 games as well.

Nothing is assured though, and as usual any game with at least 10 votes will get in.  Please don't vote for something you wouldn't want to play in.

10 votes is the requirement for the top 3 - any less would put the need for a tournament for that game into question.  So - get your friends to vote!

You have 14 days to vote.  Get friends to sign up if you have to, but get people voting for the games you want to see.  November 30th is the poll end date.  After that, we'll work in the games and rules onto the official thread, and put up the pre-registration thread.

Guys vs Girls came up a bit back, that we had very low girl numbers.  Then I got to looking - over 100 members haven't said what they are even loool.

So - that current '9 to 1' ratio?  Because one girl has declared she is one, and 9 guys have marked 'male'.

HEY!  GO EDIT YOUR PROFILE!  lol

Thread Archives / Flyers - where to put them, and what to make them say?
« on: November 13, 2006, 10:23:23 pm »
Flyers, one of the best ways to get new people and alert them to OKgamers.com existing...  However, since flyers are needed, we need to make sure we know all the places to put them, and should we make flyers for just the site itself?

--

Okay, so if you haven't read it already, we do have the readme in the Tournaments and Events that covers 'flyers, and where we put them so far', which you can check that out from this link:

http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=14.0

However, do you know of other places we can check?  Have you taken flyers from the last event and put them somewhere not on that list?

If so, please let us know!  That way we can help you keep an eye on the supply of flyers.

Also – content of the flyers?

OKgamers.com's whole purpose is to eventually get around the need for flyers, and standard promotion for events and tournaments in Oklahoma that deal with gaming.  Gamers are tech savvy, we shouldn't have to rely on seeing some random flyer to find out ya know?  We should just have a website that people know to go to post their events, and go to looking for events...

..but that won't happen over night.  So, we use traditional flyers to get the word out, and to help a team of us have been throwing tournaments 'start the process', to help get the word out.

However - should we just be creating flyers for the events?

Our ultimate goal: get the word out about OKgamers.com, get people using the site so we network and know about events and tournaments.  In order to achieve that, we have been making flyers to start the process of getting people to the site.  Even so, I feel people are just thinking OKgamers is some association throwing events just for the sake of throwing them - the whole "use this site to promote your events and tournaments, and come to check out what else is going on" seems to be lost on most people...

This is only re-inforced to us after finding flyers for an event "Gridcon" that happened this Saturday, and never even HEARING about it.  Also, they had similar games - so - maybe they didn't post on here because they thought it'd be competition?!@#

I don't know, and as a result I want to help eliminate confusion.  So - should we have flyers for "Monthly tournaments" & a flyer "about OKgamers.com's purpose"?

Of course we're going to continue making the Monthly Tournament flyers.  But, would a second flyer help?  Something to just hang up or hand out to those looking for events, or having one themselves and let them know to post it?

...The site is a free resource, and only here to serve Gamers in Oklahoma.  Signing up is easy and takes no time to do.  More and more people are finding out about it, and flyers are going out with the website url; so posting your event up is a win-win - you get to showcase your event, OKgamers.com gets more content and a reason to be around.

Should there be a second flyer explaining that?

Map: Google Maps link

Date -
Sunday November 12th, 2006

Time -

5:30pm - 6:pm - Signup for SC3 / Halo2
6PM Halo2 Tournaments start [we'll probably start at least a few minutes after that, just due to final setup / brackets]

7pm - Soul Calibur 3 Arcade Edition Tournament starts [This gives an hour to get the Halo stuff underway]

Cost -

Pre Registration = 8$  [Halo players - you get an additional discount if you bring hardware and we use it, see prereg.]
At the door = 10$

Pre Register here - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=91

Your entry fee gets you into either or both tournaments, and 10$ worth of tokens.

1$ goes back to OKgamers flyers cost.  The rest goes towards location and prizes.

**Don't like a part of this setup?  Make your voice heard.  Show up.  Fill out a survey, we'll have one for you to voice your opinions on.  Make the next one better.  You will be listened to :)**

--

Event -
Monthly Tournaments.  This is where we get together and have several events at once.  We do this to have a set date that things happen on and thus it's easier to get the word out, and also to get larger groups of people, to help cross-promote all the games we are interested in, the use / interest in okgamers.com, and to have fun.

Dates - For this year we'll do them on the second Sunday of every month.

--

Games

We are going off the poll votes - so Halo 2 and Soul Calibur 3 AE.  [See pre-reg. thread for more details on Mario Kart]

As always - yes - we'll need Halo 2 hardware help.  If you bring hardware, and we use it, you'll recieve a discount on entry fee.

--

Rules -

Halo 2 - see further down in this thread for the discussion - going with MLG rules so far.  Due to time restraints, we'll probably always have to stick to a 'first to X kills, or X minutes'.

SC3 - Double elimination tournament.  Each game is 3 out of 5 rounds, 1 match.  Semi-finals and Finals will be 2 out of 3 matches.  Funhouse currently has 2 machines to practice on, and good luck!

--

Go out, spread the word, let's have another great tournament.

Feedback - always welcome.  Go out - and link back to this thread - it helps - trust me.  In fact, visit http://okgamers.com/media.php - and swipe that code - you can post it on your website or blog, and get the word out.

[looking for the old thread / want to make comments about the last tournament?  Check the Tournaments and Events Archive forum - look for 'monthly tournaments start' in the title.]

So it's a simple question.  We will do our best to have the top 3 or more games at the next monthly tournament.

Halo - is practically a given.

We'll see about everything else.

You have 14 days to vote.  Get friends to sign up if you have to, but get people voting for the games you want to see.  October 24th is the poll end date.  After that, we'll work on rules / formatting the final details.

Survey info is still being counted, we'll get those results soon.

Please, don't vote for something you wouldn't want to play in.  Hopefully we'll have a minimum of 10 votes for the top 3 - as any less, would put the need for a tournament for that game into question.

Site Improvements & News / OKgamers.com - How you can help!
« on: October 08, 2006, 03:22:05 pm »
note.  This isn't for a specific event.  This is to help the site out - at becoming the place to PUT events / known for that / yea.  If you've got the interest to help out with a event, just post on that particular thread.  This, is helping out the entire cause - spreading the word / networking the state so we can all know when things are going down, and have more fun.

[As I've already mentioned here in this 'overview of what is coming' - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=64.0] - we are looking to get people helping out.

What do we need, people wise, right now?

People that can drive flyers around, and post them at their schools and workplaces, or just hand them out to random strangers.

People that can write.  People that can take pictures and cover events.

People fired up about the cause of getting Oklahoma's act together.  People barely interested.

Gamers - of all kinds - to give opinions / help us weigh if idea's are good or not.

We need staff members.  You interested - then please read more about becoming a staff member!

X A - Edited for addition of Staff link.  Cleared out old Board invitations.

Thread Archives / OKgamers.com - How we can make it a success
« on: October 08, 2006, 03:16:44 pm »

This space reserved ;)

Basically - any 'success' doesn't just happen.  It has a roadmap laid out to accomplish it - I'm working on that with some people now.  [What would make OKg a success?  So far I have it being the known place to network for gamers, check for tournaments and events, and people actively sending others to it for info. aka, it just being of use, and active.]

Every great success - has it's champions.  People that go out and make it happen - they are the real success.  Soon, I'll be asking for people to help out.  Casual help.  Tournament help.  Hardcore evanglists.  There will be room for everyone.

More downloadable / online materials.  This has already started - for the monthly tournaments - if you check the media section.  NOTE - every link back to this site helps online.  Search engines like Google and Yahoo recognize linking, and it improves status in the engines.  So - LINK LINK LINK if you have a site or blog; start that now, and we'll get back to helping out more soon.

One problem so far with the media section so far - OKgamers.com isn't just about the few events I throw in Tulsa.  It's about spreading the word about events and tournaments around the state.  Thus, I'll be providing resources to help people do that, and use OKgamers to help their causes.

Flyers you can download and just write in basic info.  Online banners and the code to be able to post about it.  So on so forth.

--

Anyway - I haven't fully fleshed this out yet.  If your interested in really getting in at the start / helping us out now - let me know.  Otherwise, when we've got our idea's together and ready, they'll be presented here.

Thread Archives / Super Smash Brothers 64 - Tulsa area
« on: October 01, 2006, 09:54:03 pm »

Sup, you guys around?  heh.

We've already thrown one 64 tournament a bit back, and we've got another in a week.  Hoping people will spread the word and be here for that.  Eitherway, it's happening...  You gonna show or what?
--
Also, if you want to get some competition, there are about 6 to 10 active local players, and 2 or 3 from Norman / that area that come up and play pretty serious smash weekly.  This group dominated the last tournament, so you can rest assured it's worth your time to get in some games, just starting out or a serious hardcore player.

In fact, we'll have a documentary about that tournament out soon.  Should be good times.

« on: September 18, 2006, 05:47:57 am »

Well, we've got redesign.

The main site needs some more content, as well as me fixing / implimenting the whole rotating images [so the guitar hero one isn't the only one that'll always be there]

Forums - black...  Like it?

I'd like to get some more customization going later - but for now - I thought this was alot more on target.

Anyway - let me know.  FEEDBACK and such.

Thread Archives / Guitar Hero 2 Demo - out Soon!
« on: September 15, 2006, 08:19:48 pm »

Info from - http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2006/9/13/5281

September 13, 2006 @ 4:25PM - posted by Ben Kuchera

Guitar Hero 2 demo coming soon
What are we most looking forward to in the next two months? The Wii? Sure, I'm excited, but it's not that. The PS3? I'm looking forward to seeing just how good Blu-ray movies look on my television, but even that pales in comparison to the real gaming joy that's coming in November. Of course I'm talking about Guitar Hero 2, the sequel to what may be the best experience with a custom controller ever. The game that will blow your head right out your jeans. Backwards. While going Mach 2.

It's going to rock that hard.

We played the game at E3, it was demoed at Leipzig, and now you'll finally get a chance to give it a play before the November launch date. The new issue of the Official Playstation Magazine (which should go on sale around the 22nd) has the first publicly available Guitar Hero 2 demo. Are you excited yet? Here's the songs you'll be able to try:

"Shout at the Devil" by Motley Crue
"Strutter" by Kiss
"YYZ" by Rush
"You Really Got Me" (the Van Halen version, not The Kinks)

Sounds good!@#

Sunday October 8, 2006

Time -
5pm - 5:45pm - Signup for DDR / Halo2
6PM DDR Supernova, Halo2 Tournaments start

8pm - 8:45pm - Signup for Smash64
9pm - Smash64 Tournament starts [if we can, we'll start earlier]

Cost -

DDR - 5$ entry fee - Winner gets half the pot, 2nd gets 20% of the pot and 10$ in tokens, 3rd gets 10$ in tokens

Halo 2 - 5$ - and you get 10$ worth of tokens in note form.

Smash - if you played in Halo, free.  If you didn't same as Halo.

**Remember, this is a trial run of the whole concept, so thus we are going to try most of the games without prizes / fee's really.

**Don't like a part of this setup?  Make your voice heard.  Show up.  Fill out a survey, we'll have one for you to voice your opinions on.  Make the next one better.  You will be listened to :)**

Dates - For this year we'll do them on the second Sunday of every month, starting in October, for the rest of the year.  So -

October 8th, November 12th, December 10th.

--

Games - this is a trial run for the event.  So - we are only going to have the 3 highest voted for games -

DDR Supernova, Halo 2, Smash 64

Now, I'll need some help with Smash hardware [consoles, controllers], but I'll REALLY need some help with Halo stuff to get it going.

Smash - you guys wanted it, we'll be having it.

DDR and Halo will be at 6pm, Smash at 9pm.

We'll see how the venue handles the crowds, and go from there on decisions for next time.

--

Rules -

DDR - TBD, make sure you see notes on prizes above in 'cost'.

Halo 2 - either 2v2 or 3v3 - we'll determine that upon signup.

Smash64 - Team Play, so 2v2 - similar to http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=12.0

--
Seeing as this is the first time I think anyone in Oklahoma has even tried to have monthly tournaments on this scale - we have alot of questions and 'should we do this, or this' going on.  THUS - we are going to keep it simple this time around, take an active poll / survey of players in attendance, and use that to mold the November tournament.

Spread the word.  Show up and play, or at least fill out a survey.  Get ready for this, and the next ones.
