MK - MetaKnight - the favorite among tournament winners... lol

He seems to be killing the community.  What should we do?

Here's what I will say.  As a TO - I love keeping a fair balanced playing field for both locals and out of towners; easier for locals to travel, easier to support our communities in our region by hosting events they feel safe to attend.

However.  If MK is KILLING your community, what's the purpose of staying with a non-ban position?  What is the point of encouraging a bad call?

It seems like the people running the SSBB community don't review tournament results, or are lazy MK players, and don't want to lose their meal tickets?  Maybe they all just want to kill SSBB so they can go back to Melee?  I don't know, all speculation.

What I do know: is OK has seen lower turn outs for a game that should have way more value, with players quiting sighting the ease of MK, and the lack of interest in converting.  I don't want to let our community die off totally without trying to help in any way we can.

We haven't put it to an official poll - so that is what this is.  Weigh in, you have 2 weeks to make your stance heard.

What will this effect?  OKgamers volunteer TO staff's decision.  If we go MK ban, anything we organize for the SSBB community or work with events to do - MK would be banned.  HxC and other businesses locally might take it up, dunno.

OKgamers TO's volunteer to throw and work with events to get the word out about OKgamers.com - it starts a cycle of gamers finding out about their local communities and events.  If the communities die off, we lose our audience and part of the source of information for the site - we don't benefit, and neither do they.  We'll do what we can to help where we can.

So, this has been a issue off and on for a few people, sorry :)

First time to the site?  Changed computers?  Moved?
And now when you go to login, it says "YOU ARE BANNED" - and didn't do anything?
You haven't been PM'ed 3+ times from a Moderator saying you are earning Ban points?  It's clearly our bad, sorry!

(3 offenses and we short term ban; come back and do more we long term, etc, etc - see our Terms of Conduct)

We've had horrible trolls that caused some Mods back in the old days to ban more of an IP than they should, or realized at the time.  We could get into details, but that's the basic answer.

PLEASE - let us know your problem, and we'll solve it - we don't want anyone ran off due to what an old troll did.

Simply contact us through our Contact Form - and we'll get you fixed up!

The NVGA has many chapters - will Oklahoma stand at the top come the NVGA Supercon in Denver, August 13th, and 14th?

As part of our Road to Supercon efforts, this is our FINAL FIGHTER TOURNAMENT before Supercon, and our LAST EFFORT AS a fundraising event - we've got at least our top Halo 2v2 team going.  We may have a SSBB rep or 2.  And we aim to help them get there!  OKgamers will be helping our winners from our 2 successful Road to Supercon events get to Denver with us!  We have thrown one fundraiser at TCC, and now our final one at Funhouse at the Riverwalk!  100% of your 5$ fee goes towards the gas / hotel room, and if enough, food stipends.  With local college Finals happening we didn't have a great turn out at TCC, so please come out and help us support OKgamers efforts to go and rep in Denver!!!

Why does OKgamers throws events?
Our primary goal - a resource for gamers in OK, however we also want to help out the gaming communities!  All events held by our volunteer staff of OKgamers is to get the word out about OKgamers.com as well - the site for casual and hardcore gamers and businesses in the Oklahoma area to post gamer related events and tournaments, get players together, and go to find out what's going on in our area.  Tired of hearing Oklahoma has nothing to do?  OKgamers proves things are going on all the time!  Want to help out the OKgamers cause of spreading the word, so we actually KNOW what's going on around the area?  -
 - Join our staff!
 - Learn how College and HS students can get community service through volunteering with OKgamers!

YES gamers, we expect if you show up at our event, to be familiar with everything this thread has pointed out :)
(As, there is no way to KNOW about this event fully, without this thread.  Please take the time to read up!)

DATE - SATURDAY, July 17th, 2010

Location -
Funhouse at the Riverwalk
500 Riverwalk Terrace, Suite 100
74037
Map: Google Maps link

Games -
SSBB - 2v2 (on the WII)**
SSBB - 1v1 (on the WII)
Soul Calibur 4 - 1v1  (on the PS3)
Tekken 6 - 1v1  (on the PS3)

Times -
**IF WE HAVE ENOUGH HARDWARE - WE'LL START WITH A SSBB 2V2, THEN HAVE SSBB 1V1 AFTERWARDS, PROBABLY CLOSER TO 4PM

SSBB 1v1
12:00pm - 1pm - Setup and Sign up [HARDWARE NEEDS TO BE HERE BY 12:45!]
1:30pm - Tournament starts, unless setting up hardware/bracket [ WE WILL NOT WAIT!  Be on-time, back and ready @ 1:15pm please :) ]

Since we have so much time, the 2v2 can happen if we have at least 8 setups.
(Why?  A 2v2 allows everyone warmup games and is a "community standard" it seems.  Why 8?  Less, and we risk a lengthy 1v1 afterwards, etc.  1v1 takes priority if we don't have enough hardware to get both done quickly.)

Soul Calibur 4
3:00pm - 3:45pm - Setup and Signup [HARDARE NEEDS TO BE HERE BY 3:50pm!]
4:30pm - Tournament Starts, unless setting up hardware/bracket

Tekken 6
2:30pm - 3:00pm - Setup and Signup [HARDARE NEEDS TO BE HERE BY 3:00pm!]
3:30pm - Tournament Starts, unless setting up hardware/bracket

PRIZES -
We are currently pursuing sponsors!

All games entry fees go into their game's pot.  then:

SC4 - 60/30/10 of it's pot
SSBB 1v1 - 60/30/10 of it's pot
SSBB 2v2 - 60/30/10 of it's pot
Tekken 6 - 60/30/10 of it's pot

Cost -
Like most events, there is a location fee, and tournament fees.  Spectating?  Free.

5$ location cost - one-time fee for those playing in a tournament (Think of it as the way to give back to them for hosting us.)
This gets you 10$ in tokens. [Tokens are Funhouse tokens, to spend on DDR, Initial D, Time Crisis, Soul Calibur 3AE, and other fun video games, as well as ticket games they have at that venue.]

5$ one-time fundraising cost - this event is a fundraiser to get OKgamers to Denver to represent.  This 5$ Fundraising fee is going 100% to getting gamers to the Supercon.

YOU ONLY PAY LOCATION AND FUNDRAISING ONCE FOR THIS EVENT.

Want to donate towards the fundraiser goal?  Feel free!

TOURNAMENTS = 10$ per tournament pot cost.  Any tournament you play in cost 10$, and goes into that games' pot for 1-3rd as explained under prizes.

TOTAL? =
Playing in SSBB 1v1?  Or SC4?  5 for location, 5 for fundraising, 10 for the SSBB tourny = $20
Etc, etc.  Playing in 2 tournaments?  Then that's two 10$ entry fees, plus location/fundraising.

AS YOU CAN SEE - OKgamers makes no money doing this, that's not what this is about - go read our goals.  This is all volunteer, in the hopes of improving Oklahoma by networking through one site for gamers.  Don't abuse staff, or give us a hard time - as we aren't getting paid to put up with it :)

Yes - we raised entry to 10$ as gamers have requested it.

SPECTATORS -
This is a public location, and of course watching is free.  However, only tournament entrants, and staff may use the machines.  Spectators may watch, but are asked to leave the machines to those playing.

SSBB Rules -   (on the Wii)
* 3 stock 8 minute time limit
if there isn't a winner by the end of the time limit, then the winner is whoever has the most stocks. If stocks are tied it is whoever has LESS damage.
* all items are turned off
* if there are teams then team attack is ON
* Remaining rules for SSBB can be found here - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1770.0 *

Remaining Rules for Smash?  PENDING - need to confirm what MLG is doing next.  It'll either be the MLG standard, or the OKgamers current rules - very little difference, only a stage here and there :)

Soul Calibur 4 Rules  (on the PS3) - can be found here:
 http://www.okgamers.com/pdf/sc4-rules.pdf

Tekken 6  (on the PS3) rules can be found here:
http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,2654.0.html

**IF A QUESTION ON RULES ARRISES BEFORE A MATCH STARTS, FIND A STAFF MEMBER!**
Let us resolve the rules, and get you going again!

What you need:
We seriously suggest you bring your own controllers.  We may happen to have a few extra around, but it's always best to bring your own - less concern about your performance as well :)

Can you bring hardware?  It would help out!  A "Setup" consists of a TV, console, game, controllers if possible and save data.  TV - 19" or above, tube preferrably, and remote if you can't change to input on the front.  SF and SSBB - FULLY UNLOCKED (SSBB 'more rules' and all 35 characters, and levels), and any controllers would be appreciated, however we encourage people to bring their own.  And of course, the game, console and any required cables.

How you should act:
We are at a public arcade - please respect all around you, and remember your in public - so act accordingly.

Spectators and Players - absolutely NO interference during a tournament match.  No harrasing your friends or their opponent, messing with controllers or settings, etc.  When 2 people play each other, they are to be respected and observed, not distrurbed.  Please do not test us on this :)

What else can you do - Well, spread the word!  Remember, not everyone finds a flyer or knows about OKgamers!

***REMEMBER, WE DO RELY ON THE PLAYERS TO BRING ENOUGH HARDWARE - what is enough?  At least 5 to 6 for SSBB, and 1 to 2 for SC4 and Tekken.  We will cancel a game's tournament if we do not have enough hardware that shows up ON TIME.(We ask hardware to be there typically 20 to 30 minutes before the tournament is set to start, see times.)  Why is this? OKgamers.com can only organizes events, yet as the front page explains we are not a company, nor do the venues we work with have everything.  Help us help you have a great event!

We reserve the right on ANY game to make on the spot changes to the tournament rules, such as a change to Single Elimination if there is not enough hardware, or too many people show up ["Too many" only determined by us not having the hardware brought to meet the demand in the time we have - be sure you understand that].  We have to be done no matter what at Funhouse by 11pm, thus the concern.  [Will we change?  Only if we HAVE to.  Hardware and you determine that.]

Sharpen up your game, we'll see you in a few weeks!

Go out to your blogs and your websites and your myspaces - and link back to this thread - it helps - trust me.  Also, check out myspace and add us!

Wanna thank us?
Spread the word - take a flyer, post the website up on your blog or website, join our Myspace and Facebook, or mention it to gamer friends (Keep in mind, we are just gamers ourselves, so that's how this all started!).
Join us - by Joining our staff!

Any of these will be more than enough thanks :)

First time to the site?  This going to be your first tournament you've found out about on this site?  Welcome to the site!  Please go here, and let us know how you heard about OKgamers.com!  It helps us know what is working, and what is not :)

Spread the word:
Make Oklahoma a place for gamers!  Check out OKgamers.com to find out or post about events and tournaments for gamers around Oklahoma.

PS - enjoy this concept of OKgamers getting gamers out to rep in other states?
DEPENDING ON HOW THIS EVENT AND SUPERCON EFFORTS GO - will determine if we EVER do such a thing again.  We don't like extra stress for things the community does not want to support, or care for.  This really is about what you want.

LIKE THE IDEA - show up, and help get gamers out to Supercon!
DON'T LIKE THE IDEA - show up, and let us know? :D

And as always, use the thread as feedback.

The Edmond Outlook recently interviewed forum member SeenNotScene and several other OKgamers types for an article - LINK = http://www.edmondoutlook.com/archives/m.blog/27/okgamers-com

OKgamers.com
Posted by Nathan Winfrey in the June 2010 Issue

In 2006, OKgamers.com sprang to life to fulfill a simple purpose: Saif Khan loved playing “Soul Caliber III” and needed to find a challenging opponent. He launched the website and soon he had all the competition he could handle.

Khan realized he was onto something. He broadened the site to include a variety of games, from retro first person shooters to tabletop board games; and all types of gamers, from casual players to the hardcore elite.

Four-and-a-half years later, OKgamers.com now boasts 2,500 members and frequent gaming tournaments. Each month, the site enjoys tens of thousands of hits.

“The site is the best place in Oklahoma to meet fellow gamers, to commiserate, to find tournaments and to set up tournaments,” Cody Farrah, Edmond resident, says. “It’s completely free and everyone is welcome.”

It’s become a nexus for Oklahoma gamers to connect and organize. Regular events are held across the state at places like Play N Trade at 33rd Street and Broadway. It’s a place to discuss games, anime, technology and more.

Farrah, in his mid-20s, has been a member for more than a year. One of his favorite games is “Left 4 Dead 2,” a popular Xbox 360 title where players control one of four zombie apocalypse survivors in New Orleans. It’s a cooperative first-person shooter game, which means Farrah is no longer battling against his friends, but working with them.

“It has a great basis of teamwork; you really have to work together. It takes great leadership,” Farrah says. “Typically, players are calm and helpful because they’re working as a team.” He says “Left 4 Dead 2” is ideal because it tends to break down the stereotype that all gamers are male. “Guys are always going to outnumber girls, but I’ve seen a lot of girls play ‘Halo’ and I’ve seen a ton of girls play ‘Left 4 Dead 2’.”

“It’s not just a guy thing anymore,” Farrah says. “I think that’s changing as time goes on. More girls are getting into it every day.”

Beloved first-person shooter games “Halo 3,” “Modern Warfare 2” and cartoony-fighting game “Super Smash Brothers Brawl” are also popular among gamers. Other combat games like, “Super Street Fighter 4” and “Tekken 6” are very popular as well.

Expenses can be a hurdle, as each new game costs around $60 and gaming systems cost hundreds of dollars. Plus, some systems require fees for online play. “If you want the newest and greatest, you have to have a good job to support your habit,” said Farrah, who works as a store manager for a cell phone carrier.

One shouldn’t be intimidated by others’ skill levels when deciding whether to get involved in competitive or cooperative gaming. There are tournaments for everyone, from people who have barely touched a videogame controller, to people who were practically born with one in their hands. “People are really friendly and always willing to help if you have questions,” Farrah said.

Anyone can start a tournament at OKgamers.com, and some tournaments don’t even require the players to be in the same ZIP code. Online play is a fast-growing trend in community gaming, but traditional, face-to-face tournaments are still very popular.

Another major aspect of OKgamers.com is their community service. The site has been approved by 1800volunteer.org for their work to help students get community service hours. Up to 200 volunteers facilitate tournaments and help with the many conventions and large-scale events that OKgamers.com participates in. “It’s not just for gamers, it’s for businesses as well,” Farrah says. “We work with businesses and sometimes help them with charities,”

The gamers participate as additional volunteers for charity events. They setup, tear down and do anything else to make the event run smoothly. They also participate in events like Gamers Against Violence.

“We work with several volunteer systems to help them see that volunteering can be fun and about more than just shoveling dirt,” Khan says. “It shows gamers that they can go out and improve their communities, and have fun doing it.”

OKgamers.com has worked with the Tulsa Achievers program, which helps students go to college for free. They have also worked with hospices, churches and Oklahoma City Community College. June 18 through the 20, OKgamers.com members will volunteer at Tokyo in Tulsa, an anime convention.

As always, OKgamers finds sponsors and locations for you the gamers to come out and have a good time, but we will need your help with hardware and spreading the word about the event!  We'll be looking for hardware support on most of the games!  (Smash and Halo definitely!)

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
CASH - to enter the event, tournaments, for any food like GrillaRay's downstairs or their snacks, etc.
YOUR OWN CONTROLLER - We seriously suggest you bring your own controllers.  Gamers may let you borrow theirs, but it's always best to bring your own - less concern about your performance as well.
HARDWARE - if you can help by bringing hardware, this helps the event run faster.  OKgamers is facilitating the event, TCC is the venue sponsor, but this is all community driven - thus it's a "potluck community effort" - aka, we all bring our hardware to help out!

HARDWARE - OKgamers ORGANIZES events - in the end, we are just gamers like yourself, trying to promote a free resource, OKgamers.com.  We really do RELY on the LOCAL COMMUNITY especially, to help us provide hardware for this event.

THE TRADE OFF - Local players get cheap events, and little to no travel expense, all with quality competition coming to you...  All you have to do to aid in this is help the event have hardware for both you and the travelling competitors to play on!

What do you mean by Hardware/A Setup:
A "Setup" consists of a TV, console, game, controllers if possible and save data.  TV - 19" or above, tube preferably for some fighting games, and remote if you can't change to input on the front.  SSF / SC / Tekken and SSBB - FULLY UNLOCKED (SF = all available, SSBB 'more rules' and all 35 characters, and levels, etc), and any controllers would be appreciated, however we encourage people to bring their own.  And of course, the game, console and any required cables.

Can't bring hardware?  While ANYTHING can help, we also understand if you cannot.  Pre-reg will help show what hardware is coming, encourage those friends that CAN bring hardware, that they do so and keep an eye on pre-reg to know see what's showing up!

MORE HARDWARE = FASTER TOURNAMENT.
MORE HARDWARE = NO SUCH THING AS "too many tournament attendees".

YOU KNOW US - we run these for promotion of OKgamers - so we run a tight ship to keep everyone happy.
We reserve the right on ANY game to make on the spot changes to the tournament rules, such as a change to Single Elimination if there is not enough hardware, or too many people show up ["Too many" only determined by us not having the hardware brought to meet the demand in the time we have - be sure you understand that].  We have to be done no matter what around 7pm as TCC has it's rules too, thus the concern.
 - Have we before - yes, rarely.
 - Will we change?  Only if we HAVE to.  Hardware and you determine that.  (Remember traveling gamers don't have a lot of room, they depend on local players to help.)

Tournament Format - All games will be double elimination, unless there's not enough hardware.  The more hardware we have, the faster an event goes!

NO HARDWARE SHOWS UP / NOT ENOUGH FOR A GAME? - Rare, but it can happen.  No hardware, means no event, period.  Not enough, means we might make an event single elmination, etc.  Concerned?  CHECK THE PRE-REGISTRATION list, and see what's coming.  No hardware for your game, bring it up on this thread!

We realize when it comes to some OKgamers details, not everyone is up to date - so first a quick review of the NVGA, and Supercon.

THE NVGA:
When it comes to grassroots events - the events you can trust to have the best gaming rules and gamers - because it's FOR gamers BY gamers?  One group stands out - the NVGA, or National Video Game Association, and it's long term chapters like OKgamers.

We care.  Pure and simple.  We want to see a healthy gaming enviroment and scene for our gamers, because afterall, we are all gamers just like you.  That's what the NVGA is, chapters built up by gamers who care, and have banded together for common interests, etc.

THE NVGA SUPERCON:
The SuperCon is the ultimate gaming con that features high level gaming in both console and PC, casual gaming, vendors to showcase their products, exhibits from some of the up and coming gaming vendors and organizations, workshops and panels on all aspects of the gaming industry. Stemming from the NVGA, the SuperCon is a summation of all the ideals that every chapter in the NVGA represent throughout the course of the year. These ideals are blend of COMMUNITY, EDUCATION AND A HEALTHY BALANCE OF GAMING AND LIFE. Whether you are a casual gamer, competitive gamer, gamer enthusiats, or simply a person who is looking for a place to express your inner gamer the SuperCon is the place for you.

CURRENT GAMES: SSBB, Tekken 6, Call of Duty MW2, SSF4, BlazBlue, HALO 3, Unreal Tournament 3, SSBM, Heroes of Newerth, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2!  (Current GAME list)

What is OKgamers road to Supercon?
So - the Supercon is great - $$$ everywhere, free stuff, a gaming event like no other, and a gathering of NVGA chapters and gamers from ACROSS the USA (and beyond for some games).  How do you get there?!  One way is you attend a Road to Supercon Seeding Qualifier of course!  What is OKgamers Road to Supercon plans?

Well - they are 2 part - what the NVGA has setup, and what OKgamers TO's have put together.

Part 1 - the Road To Supercon - read up here - http://www.supercon2k.com/RoadtoSuperCon.php

So?  Effectively Road To Supercon events are Seeding Tournaments for the Supercon event.  FIRST PLACE - Guaranteed $150 stipend to GET YOU to Denver.  Pretty sweet?  Yup.  Also - no REPEAT winners; once you place you've placed, so you can't go win every regional, etc.  (make sure you read up on the Road to Supercon page linked above!)

*Provided the regional event pulls in at least 15 people for that tournament, more below.

Part 2 - OKgamers Road to Supercon - we roll to Denver in MASS.

It's great that 1st placers get 150 bucks to offset travel expenses, but the TOP FOUR of any qualifying tournament are qualifiers...  What about the other 3 gamers per tournament?  How do 2nd, 3rd and 4th go to represent OKgamers at Supercon?

OKgamers is going to use a series of events to fund raise and "Get our OKgamers there".

THE OKg SERIES: (Games listed at the bottom)
1st - TCC Metro Campus' Halo 2v2 Regional, and Fighting Gamer Fundraiser.  That event will use the organizing fee charged to fund raise.

2nd- Tokyo in Tulsa 2010 - will have the Fighting Gamers Seeding Regionals.  Because the event already has a location fee, we won't be doing any direct fundraising there, we will take donations.

3rd - FINAL FIGHTERS TOURNAMENT before Supercon -
SSBB, SC4, T6 - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,3089.0.html
FB - http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=122475617795327

THEN?
We use funds raised at these events, our 'travel pot', to offset gas cost to get there and back, help offset hotel charges, and if we have enough, even help towards providing funds for food while your there!!

Sound awesome?  It is.  Literally, OKgamers and it's Tournament Organizers are helping to facilitate taking our local winners to Denver to represent!!  It will be OKgamers LARGEST Out of State trip ever, and the Supercon is well worth the trip!  ( this will be my third one! )

*WHATS THE CATCH? Make sure you read the Road to Supercon page.
As always, we are limited by 2 things - hardware, and attendance.  As mentioned before, if you can help bring hardware, please do!
ALSO - attendance - if a Regional game does not have 16 or more people, it will not qualify as a seeding regional event, and there will be no stipend for travel.  The games chosen - have HUGE followings.  If we promote and you help us promote - we should have GREAT turn outs.  We have gamers locally that can help with hardware if they so choose - everything should go great!  However if the local community doesn't show up to rep, we'll simply have normal tournaments, and not regionals.

WHAT ABOUT GETTING THERE ISSUES?
I have a car, as do other TO's.  Some qualifiers may have cars we can use.  After the qualifiers finish June 20th, we'll know who our "top 4 seeds" are.  Who can help with a vehicle, who can go for sure, etc.  Will we be able to help all the top 4's - it comes down to resources.
 - Are you, or do you know a BUSINESS who can HELP SPONSOR OUR TRIP?
 - DO YOU HAVE A VAN, HOTEL HOOK UPS, ETC?
We'd love to know about it :)  PM me with your details.

WHAT NOW?
Help us spread the word?!
Join the Facebook Events for these events, telling your friends, handing out flyers, etc!  Word of mouth travels fast!
Helped with Hardware in the past - we'll need your help again as always!

...and GET TO PRACTICING!

Sup - so we'll use the Chat forum for this question, please don't spam it :)  We do actually want feedback here!

(Could post in Site News / Improvements - but let's be honest, you guys barely notice that forum!)

SO GAMERS!

We have Halo, Fighters, and other gamers who "Rep for OKgamers" and travel out of state.  Some of us want to know how things are going - but WHAT is the best way to report?  Or should it all stay on the thread, and just reported after?

That's the big decision - how to report - the poll above is good for 14 days!

ACCOUNTS MENTIONED:
Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/OKgamers
UStream Video - http://www.ustream.tv/OKgamers

"Personal" - would be just whoever is going can post a link to their account before going, etc.    ( Yes, OKgamers could always retweet - but only if people care / want that - thus the poll as well :) )

If you hadn't caught on from the last few events - OKgamers is doing our best to go more Video :)  From event coverage, to our Ustream account, to footage of tournament matches - all of that.

I thought I had really found a winner for OKgamers media coverage :(

After going to Phase 6 and seeing a tourny organizer using the "Pinnacle Video Transfer" I took photos, came home, and searched.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015E2PQM/?tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=4306732997&ref=pd_sl_2ydsl9j60t_e

The event coordinator said other than it getting "crazy when it was close to full" he had had a lot of luck with it, and liked it, and only paid 35$!  He said it could take on HOURS AND HOURS of play, even all day on just an 8 gig THUMB DRIVE!
However, Amazon disagree's.  Not available anymore, and a lot of mixed reviews.

Why is it so magical?

RECORDS VIDEO STRAIGHT from the AV cords onto A USB THUMB DRIVE!  No computer, no fuss!

Man.  I want.  But something reliable ya know?  During an event it's bad enough running it - we can't have hardware messing with us, etc.

Anyone know of a similar product, etc?  He got his for 35 - so I was hoping the same heh.

And - if it requires a computer - can it run on a netbook?   Older laptop?  We have random hardware, but want to know our best options, etc.

256 players - just sounds awesome.

But...  No one's been talking about it.  Bad sign?  Anything known out there?  I heard the netcode was actually pretty good, but?  Anyone playing it?

I bought extra controllers for this!  lol

Why OKgamers works with throwing events?
Our primary goal is to continue being the best resource to gamers in Oklahoma, however we also want to help out the gaming communities! We work with events to help more things happen, and get the word out about OKgamers.com at the same time!

Want to help out the OKgamers cause of spreading the word, so we actually KNOW what's going on around the area?  -

Soul Calibur 4 RULES - http://www.okgamers.com/pdf/sc4-rules.pdf

**IF A QUESTION ON RULES ARISES BEFORE A MATCH STARTS, FIND A STAFF MEMBER!**
Let us resolve the rules, and get you going again!

What you need:
We seriously suggest you bring your own controllers.  Gamers may let you borrow theirs, but it's always best to bring your own - less concern about your performance as well :)

HARDWARE - OKgamers ORGANIZES events - in the end, we are just gamers like yourself, trying to promote a free resource, OKgamers.com.  We really do RELY on the LOCAL COMMUNITY especially, to help us provide hardware for this event.

You get cheap events, and little to no travel expense, all with quality competition coming to you...  All you have to do to help - is help the event have hardware for both you and the travelling competitors to play on!

Can you bring hardware?  It ALWAYS helps!  A "Setup" consists of a TV, console, game, controllers if possible and save data.  TV - 19" or above, tube preferably for some fighting games, and remote if you can't change to input on the front.  SF / SC / Tekken and SSBB - FULLY UNLOCKED (SF = all available, SSBB 'more rules' and all 35 characters, and levels, etc), and any controllers would be appreciated, however we encourage people to bring their own.  And of course, the game, console and any required cables.

Can't bring hardware?  While ANYTHING can help, we also understand if you cannot.  Pre-reg will help show what hardware is coming, so check back for that, and encourage those friends that CAN bring hardware, that they do.

MORE HARDWARE = FASTER TOURNAMENT.
MORE HARDWARE = NO SUCH THING AS "too many tournament attendees".

How you should act:
We are at a public venue - please respect all around you, and remember your in public - so act accordingly.

At least 5 to 6 for SSBB, and for other fighting games 2 to 3 setups for SF4, and then 2 for SC4, 2 for Tekken 6.  We can and will cancel a game's tournament if we do not have enough hardware that shows up ON TIME.(We ask hardware to be there typically 20 to 30 minutes before the tournament is set to start, see times.)  Why is this? OKgamers.com can only organizes events, yet as the front page explains we are not a company, nor do the venues we work with have everything.

It's a "potluck" style event meant to help the gaming community.  Help us help you have a great event!

We have to be done no matter what at Alien Games by 10pmish, thus the concern.
 - Have we before - yes, rarely.
 - Will we change?  Only if we HAVE to.  Hardware and you determine that.  (Remember traveling gamers don't have a lot of room, they depend on locals to help.)

Sharpen up your game, we'll see you soon!

FIGHTING GAMERS - OKgamers volunteers work with 2 types of events.
1 - We work with businesses to throw successful events.
2 - We throw events for the gaming communities that exist in OK, ask for events, and then show up and support them.

WHY?  Because OKgamers.com is a resource - and without promotion and content - aka events, there isn't much of a point.  And?  When we throw events for your community, those communities help us spread the word about OKgamers.com - the REAL reason we do anything, to promote the site as a resource and it's existence period.

(Simple cycle we jumpstart - the more people who know about OKgamers.com, and talk about it, the more useful a resource it is as people post, etc; which in turn, gets more people to pay attention as it becomes more useful, etc.)

...however.  Throwing an event for a 'dead game' - or one that has no community locally to attend and help with hardware, etc - doesn't help us at all.  Doesn't help businesses we consult with.  No fun.

SO - we'll determine what "has a community" - by this poll for 2010.

March.  April.  June.  August.  All have events, FOR SURE in them already.  What FIGHTING GAMES have spots - depend on you.

How many votes do a game need?
We'll take the top 3 games in the poll as advisement that you guys care, and add them to events coming up.  HOWEVER - if the game doesn't have at least 8 votes, we'll take it as a consideration, not a guaranteed game.

Is your fighting game not in the poll?
If it's a FIGHTING GAME and has 3 requests for it on the thread, and we'll add it.  (Request as in "Please add Soul Calibur 2 on ps2", etc.)

What is the cost for these events?
Usually - 5$ pot.  However, some communities perfer more, we'll explore that AFTER we determine what games we'll work with.  (Tekken, SF4 - if you say we need to charge more we can, we'll discuss that after this.)

Complaints we won't care about:
"Why does Smash & SF4 get a pass?" - They consistently have strong attendance, they are not in question.
"I didn't have an account to vote with" - they are free, and take a valid email and a minute to sign up.
"What about new games" - they always get their chance, we are talking current games.
"You don't play on my console" - Due to tournament standards we follow the national community lead on console use.
"Where is HALOEZ!" - FPS is a whole other mess, we are only concerned about fighting game tournaments in this poll.
"Where are the card games / board games / etc" - once again, this is only for fighting games on consoles.  You want events for your game - we are listening in the chat, local players, and tournament planning forums :)

You've got 2 weeks to voice your opinion.  No excuses :)
