OKgamers will be organizing and bringing an ENTIRELY HORROR THEMED GAMING AREA TO THIS EVENT!

CONFIRMED:
Left 4 Dead 2 LAN
Resident Evil 5
Halo 3 - 4v4 (5 or so teams so far, see page 3) COST - 10 per person?  Still being debated, go weigh in!

PARTY CRASHER GAMES (read next post for explanation):
Halo 3
SSBB 2v2?
SF4 - 360 AND PS3 - if we have WAY MORE 360's show up than PS3 - OKgamers will re-discuss supporting 360 over PS3.

Hoping to gather titles such as:
Borderlands LAN
Silent Hill
House of the Dead
Fatal Frame
Etc, etc.

We are also in talks for a PRE-RELEASE - watch this space for more!

COST - entry is only 7 bucks.

We are rolling around the idea of having no pay tournaments, and anything we do do - being free entry, winners get prizes and swag that Horror Fest is now collecting.  The main idea - real cheap day of good times and horror - for low ressession proof pricing :)

HALO - 4v4 - most seem to want to do 10$ per person.  Some 2v2 still exists - and if 4v4 falls apart, 2v2 is option.

SSBB - 2v2 - discussed - but no gamers have talked of times and [email protected]  Discuss on thread so we can lock down and finalize!!

--

Hardware - we'll have some of TV's, 360's, PS3's, etc - but we'll as always - need help with hardware, setups, and fun horror based games.  Classic, Modern - just so long as it's awesome and Horror themed.

ONE ISSUE WITH HARDWARE - if we have a choice - let's do new console.  So - if there is a great version of Darkstalkers for the Dreamcast, but a downloadable version for the 360?  Let's do the DL 360 version...

...no one wants you to bring your precious and irreplaceable items to this.  Treasures - stay home.  We are after good times, and non-collectibles as much as possible :)

SEE YOU IN A FEW WEEKS!

PRE-REGISTRATION -

It works for large events that have people travelling, or considering if they should travel...

...but the truth is - any event OKgamers has ever had - we've had travelling.  So - shouldn't we always do a Pre-reg?

It's MORE work for the organizers, but it has the benefit of also giving us a clear intent of attendance, hardware, and even cell numbers to call if you don't show up and we don't want to start without your group.

The problem is - gamers have LITERALLY told me as an organizer - they won't do it unless there is some financial or direct personal gain.  From the past experiences - it seems this is a overall "lazy" angle most seem to share, because less than 25% have used pre-reg in the past for events, even WITH personal gain / discounts.

EXAMPLE - review the 1/23 pre-reg - http://www.plasmaburn.net/prereg.php?tourn=0

Your name.  Games your planning on playing, and hardware your planning on bringing.  Nothing hard here.
We also ask for age, email and phone number - data that won't be shared outside of a few Tournament Organizers.

TIME - that form took me 1 minute, going SLOW.  Reading everything over again.  Taking time to think.

60 seconds.

Is that too much to ask?  Who's going - that helps everyone from locals to travelling gamers.
Are we missing something here - post your opinion and weigh in on the poll.  If there is a 'hurt' to be had, we want to hear about this.

--

POLL - we've got it up.  We want your opinions.  Please take a time to weigh in, trust me, it'll matter.

QUICK POINTS:
Yes - the 1/23 pre-reg is up, and if you are going, please use it!
No - we aren't talking about doing  pre-reg's for conventions unless we are requested to by the event, or by the gaming community it's self.
YES - this applies to events like Funhouse tournaments, TCC events - anything in the future OKgamers would do without a convention or large scale event we are participating at; and even then we could be requested by the event to do it.

Think about the time it takes vs the info it provides.  Personally, I'm for it, but really do want to hear from the community on this, and the TO's will be discussing it at the 2010 meeting.

Tournament Planning and Hype / Official OKgamers.com Halo 3 Rules
« on: January 15, 2010, 05:55:37 pm »

FIRST AND FOREMOST - OKgamers.com follows the community rules for any game it works with.  As the Halo community is pretty much totally driven by MLG - we follow their rules first.

We always reserve the right to alter the rules due to hardware restraints.  What will you do?  If there is less hardware than people and time constraints dictate such, we might take a set of 7 series down to a set of 5, etc.  Worse case, we would take double elimination down to single.

--

Halo 4v4 - coming soon

--

Halo 2v2 - Rules tailored for 1/23/10 TCC Metro Tournament:

MLG v7 rules, we will only be playing MLG TS V7 the map selection will run through Narrows, Pit, Amplified, and heretic.

All matches except for Losers bracket finals and Winners bracket finals will be best 2 out of 3. winners and loser finals will be best 3 out of 5

BRINGING HARDWARE - PLEASE remember to update your maps to V7 and have all of them.
LINK - http://www.bungie.net/stats/halo3/fileshare.aspx?player=mlg%20gametypes

We do not require wired controller, but if you can please bring them.
While you are not in a match we are going to require Batteries to be taken out of the controllers to stop any chance of interference.

I can not comment on whether or not there will be any split screen play yet and i will not be able to until i see how many teams register, OR how much hardware we have.

*One team has to splitscreen, one doesn't?  RARE, and only in cases where we are really lacking hardware; preference will be shown to the team that brought hardware, vs a team that has not.*

RULE ISSUES?  POST BELOW TO DISCUSS, otherwise these are good to go.

CHANGING RULES AT THE TOURNAMENT?  Only if there is 100% agreement among players entered in the tournament.

OKgamers.com is an "open club" when it comes to organizing, planning, etc.  We've never turned anyone down to be on Staff or now a Supporter, and we do that because we believe anyone has the potential to help improve OK, who are we to judge?  (We do scare of a decent portion with "...but you have to be responsible and not a troll on the forums" though ;))

However, after 4 years of running this ship, we've decided the average gamer / visitor to this site?  Doesn't care about helping plan.  They trust us, don't care, a mixture, etc.  SO - in late 2009 we made several changes:

2005-2009 - We had yearly organizing meetings to review where we were and plan out goals for that year.  We included our 'board of directors' / Advisory Board - a collection of people bugged, borrowed, or interested in overall OKgamers policy, but not day to day things.  We also included Staff, and literally anyone who wanted to join, however with the exception of an occasional Halo or Soul Calibur player?  No one ever used this option.

Late 2009 - we replaced the board with TO's, or Tournament Organizers.  They were the ones moving and shaking up OKgamers in the first place, they were the ones who should get the titles of importance and direct decision making - small stuff and overall.  Staff was converted to 'supporters' - effectively the same thing, but changed for good reason, etc.

All this to say?  We no longer throw out open invites to locals or gamers interested in OKgamers, but not already in Supporter status.  It's all kept in the hidden Supporter forum for those that care - and have opted in to get to the info.  After years of sharing, and no one caring, we didn't want to continue to spam anyone.

That said - since this is the FIRST "Board meeting" since the change, I felt it important to highlight the changes that have happened, and let anyone that was wanting to get in on working with OKgamers?  Helping to improve the state for gamers?  Wanted to highlight 1/22 we'll be having our 2010 meeting, and if you want more details, you'll need to have supporter status on your forum account, aka become a Supporter :)  If you want to help out, this is a good first step anyway, but hey, we at least wanted to let you all know.

How to become a Supporter thread: http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,2510.0.html

It's free lol, no real responsibilities beyond 'good behavior', and really, is all opt in.  If you want to get in on helping online or at tournaments or in planning the future, or a combination, that's where you start.

So, after talking with a Halo player who's friend is hung up on "Tekken is the best fighting game ever", to silly ol' Esom complaining about Tekken players getting all the respect - but wait.  What community is ACTUALLY larger?

Tekken Zaibatsu - as I know it the biggest community for Tekken?  65,000 members.

Smash Boards?  almost 3 times that size - 164,000.

So - drama starts here - what's the biggest, and best community?  Obviously, SC is the best :)  But anyway, largest - seems to be SSBB - even though Tekken and SF players will try and mock it, etc...

Thoughts?

ORDER MADE.  May have a few extra shirts at 1/23 Tulsa tournament, probably not hoodies unless someone doesn't buy theirs, makes arrangements, etc.

-------------------------

OKGAMERS - you've seen the Shirts, Hoodies around.  Look below if not.

PLAN - we get your orders here on this thread online, and at the 12/13 tournament, ordering available for 3 weeks, ending by 1/13/09** - (updated, due to "4 Months" promotion.)

After that we order them.  You can pick them up at the TCC tournament happening on 1/23/10, at which point you'll pay for them.

Don't live in TULSA? - You might have friends coming up for the tournament - have them grab it.

DON'T KNOW ANYONE GOING - Fury from OKC/Mustang area has offered once again to grab them for you if your in that area - MAKE ARRANGEMENTS WITH HIM on picking it up - and don't doddle, as he has the right to just return them to us lol.

If you don't live in Tulsa, or OKC area, we'll be looking into shipping costs - so PM me if you need to know more about that.

CAN WE BUY THEM FOR A BUSINESS AND RESELL THEM? - We've been asked this, and are fine - as long as your not ripping people off, misleading them, etc.  We aren't charging profit for this because of our non-profit position - if you profit off of them, it's understandable as a business, all we ask is that you don't try and charge $30 a t-shirt, etc.  Just keep it on the level, and helping gamers - and of course we are fine with it!

ARE YOU GOING TO DO THIS AGAIN? - Probably not.  This run is happening because several key people have asked, and we are willing to do it one more time.  AFTER THIS - it'll take a lot of prodding, or we need to find a 'one run' solution locally, or online.  (1 run, as in you order it, they ship it to you, etc.)  I've read a bit on www.spreadshirt.com - but haven't determined if they are good enough / high quality / worth trusting to take care of you guys.  So, we are still researching, thus this order happening at all.  (GUARANTEED - this'll be the cheaper route though, so if you are wanting a shirt or hoodie, I'd order it this way if your able to get it, etc.)

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DONT GET IT - if you order something, and don't pick it up by half way through the 1/23 event, and haven't alerted us to your plans, we'll sell the extras shirts and hoodies at the end of the event.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  You want one - order it, and pick it up.  Can't pick it up - MAKE ARRANGEMENTS with Fury, myself, or a friend to pick it up.  Period.

OKgamers shirt design:

Back Design - centered at the top

WHATS AVAILABLE IN WHAT SIZES - All Black
T-SHIRT - Available in S - 6X
HOODIE, PULLOVER - L - 5X
HOODIE, ZIPPER - 2X - 5X** = design can't go past zipper, thus the size limitation.

OKgamers will be bringing an ENTIRELY HORROR THEMED GAMING ROOM TO THIS EVENT!

Think -
Left 4 Dead 2 Lan  (as long as lan settings are good, waiting on game release)
Resident Evil 4 and 5
Silent Hill
House of the Dead
Fatal Frame
( Halo zombies?  :) Would  Mortal Kombat, or Darkstalkers count?  hmm...)

Etc, etc.

(Would be cool to get one setup of hacked Brawl with all horror themed characters...)

--

So - this sounds like a finished thing - why not post it in the Events section?

First off - we need to have some feedback, hardware help, etc.

FEEDBACK - what sort of games do you want there?  We already know we need -

ONE BIG GAME - and tournament for that - L4D 2 - if it doesn't suck, will be that.
ONE BIG SECONDARY GAME - to help out, etc.
Lots of fun and even retro games.

We need idea's for what you think is [email protected]#

COST - entry is only 7 bucks.  We are rolling around the idea of having no pay tournaments, and anything we do do - being free entry, winners get prizes and swag that they are now collecting.  Or, we could have a few low entry fee events.  The main idea - real cheap day of good times and horror - for low ressession proof pricing :)

--

Hardware - we'll hopefully have some of TV's - and a few 360's, PS3's, etc - but we'll as always - need help with hardware, setups, and REALLY IN THIS CASE - good games.  Classic, Modern - just so long as it's awesome and Horror themed.

ONE ISSUE WITH HARDWARE - if we have a choice - let's do new console.  So - if there is a great version of Darkstalkers for the Dreamcast, but a downloadable version for the 360?  Let's do the DL 360 version...

...no one wants you to bring your precious and unreplaceable items to this.  Treasures - stay home.  We are after good times, and non-collectables as much as possible :)

LET THE IDEAS BEGIN!

Gist is in the title - as part of the pre-Black Friday sales, Wal-mart returned with their get a 100$ gift deal on a model of the Xbox.

So - the good news is, it is confirmed that the one day event from November 7th is still good and in the computer; Glenpool had signing up so I guess the internet was just WRONG?

Bad news - when I called around in Tulsa and BA, no one had any in stock, other than Glenpool,

which had some and I bought one and confirmed!  (It's an Arcade - and it's a Jasper - and it's got HDMI!  And Glenpool has 6 more.)

So - for the rest of you non-Tulsan's - good luck - sale officially goes till the 15th, and alot of stores are outta stock, but at least you've been informed!  (Or Tulsan's willing to drive lol.)

(PS - HOW DID NONE OF US KNOW ABOUT [email protected]!#)

As you may have read, OKgamers is working with Tulsa Best Buy 221 (71st and Hwy 169!) on a awesome Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Midnight Launch.  While we were planning this, we were asked - would gamers also want a Midnight Launch and release next week for

LEFT 4 DEAD 2?
ASSASSINS CREED [email protected]
STAR [email protected]  (the movie!!!!!)

Want it Monday?!  If we get at least 100 votes total for the 3 releases, Best Buy at 71st will stay open and host a Release~!

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
 - Play the games while you wait in comfort - and not out in the cold!
 - Not sure about getting it?  Come on out and try it first, before others can even buy it!!
 - Got Christmas shopping and don't want to fight the rush?  Gamers can shop while they wait for Midnight!
 - Get a 10$ gift card from Best Buy recently and want to use it?  :)

So, if we get 100 votes, Best Buy will let gamers stick around after 9pm, keep shopping, play BRAND NEW GAMES before they even buy it, and oh yea, not be out in the cold waiting!!

Got a friend that's not sure?  You could drag them out and try it for free, playing it all night till release 12am!!

So - gamers - it's your call.  Let us know!  (Oh, and of course spread the word to your trek friends that they can come out and get previews of awesome games, then grab their DVD or BlueRay love!)

73

Fan of anime?  Then you probably already know about Izumicon, and are planning on attending!

What you may not know?  OKgamers will be there as well, with several panels and of course hanging out and having fun!

Currently the only schedule that is accurate seems to be this forum post:
http://www.izumicon.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=810

So come out and have a good time, we'll see you there!

(Gaming?  Yes, there will be!  However, we don't know the titles, etc - they are bringing in an group from out of state to handle gaming, and nothing has been posted console wise - see their forum for non-console gaming!)

Okay - if you've been around long enough, you know the drill.

BB and T6 - we need to make sure we are using the best rules for these games - best = NVGA rules, but those might not be totally complete yet, or we might want to simply verify that they are community approved.  Eitherway - we'll post what we have - you tell us crazy / right / etc.  Post if we need to update, etc.

Once we have this finalized - we put it onto the main site as a printable resource under Media.

--

Anyway - while at Best Buy to plan out the details of the event...

...I got to play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.  :)

Short story shorter:

Competitive play had 16 maps, starting out with Afganistan and getting into places like Brazil and fun European area's.  From CQC to sniper field central, these maps were beautifl, and felt like they had a lot of polish.  I didn't rep HARD for my COD OKgamers friends - I'm hoping you guys show up to Best Buy and prove that we are indeed hardcore at this!  ( no one wanted to play fighting games ;) )

Campaign - I only got to watch a few minutes of - but once again - BEAUTIFUL.  The opening animation was pretty, and made the grown men in the room ohh and ahh like we were but babes.  Truly, this game...

The biggest awesomeness - Special Ops.  It seemed to have a handful at first, then you realize that the handful of initial options had 10 or more options under that - oh - yes.

Special Ops seemingly built for fun short play, really did add to the game for me.  The few we played - a training style shooting terrorists vs civilian, and then a "3 waves of baddies in white" ala "Red Dawn got in my COD", were great.  My greatest joy from that?  Two terrorists cross - one sniper bullet finishes both.  Ahh, splatter.

--

My opinion?  I'm a casual shooter, and enjoyed MW, playing it through with my good friend.  We'd play through MW2 eventually, but with budgeting and all, even I was questioning whether or not I'd be buying it at the Midnight release...

...then I played it tonight.  Monday?  I'm buying this game.
