does this count as a double post?  lets change the stages.  onett doesn't count cuase it has such a low ceiling and pepole can camp the edges because of the side barriers.

We've had casual discussions about it - I'm down for making the SERIOUS stage options happen - it's just we need to have discussions here, online to officially start change.

Change - to become more like TX, and thus similar to our largest source of competition.
As I recall it was 7 stages instead of 5 to strike at first, and switching one off our allowed counterpick list.  Care to fill in the blanks SSBB'ers?

the phase tournaments, although they are getting bigger and bigger, probably isn't the best place to go for stage lists.

So - can we get a "this is what we need to change" list from the Alien Games event for SSBB rules?

Also - sounds like we need to up our cost to 10$ entry?

Speak now, or don't complain later when we don't have progress.

Rules look fine to me.

EDIT: The only thing's i would like to agree on is the three starter stages that xerit listed and the planking/Scrooging rules.

Rules look fine to me.

So your vote is
NOT to go to 10$
NO acceptance of the Alien Games rule changes as permanent,
and no addition of planking / scruging?, etc?

Personally I think we should switch to just 3 starter stages:

Starters:

Battlefield
FD
Smashville

Of the possible neutral and neutral counterpicks (as defined by SBR rules) those are probably the most fair. Yoshi's would also work, but then you would have to include a 5th stage to keep it odd, and there isn't a good 5th to add (Pokemon Stadium 1 is NOT neutral).

Counter pick stages:

Castle Siege
Halberd
Lylat Cruise
Pokémon Stadium 1
Brinstar
Delfino
Frigate Orpheon
Jungle Japes
Pictochat
Pirate Ship
Pokémon Stadium 2
Rainbow Cruise

Some of these are up for debate, the others however are not viable for various reasons (Most commonly static, permanent walls or walk offs, and/or completely random game changing level hazards).

Ledge Grabs need to be limited to 50 which works out to 1 grab every 9.6 seconds. No normal game (read as, one where one player is not planking) should really exceed that limit.

Scrooging (Defined as passing back and forth beneath the stage in order to avoid contact with the enemy) should be limited to at most 2 passes, after which you must make contact with your opponent. This rule however is much more difficult to enforce than the ledge grab limit because there is no stat in the after game breakdown to check, method of enforcement is something that should be considered before you implement this rule.

The rest of the rules should be SBR standard.

I don't particularly see a reason to increase tournament fees unless OK Gamers needs to more to cover their own expenses. Winners are already making plenty off a few hours of "work". Larger tournaments (2-3 day affairs) could make a case for larger entry fees, but for one shot deals I think we are fine where we are.

This is interesting - does any other state cut it down this much?  I'd be curious, and since we do need to stick to odd numbers - I'd be fine with this personally.  Thoughts?

Well, your list is the same on stages, with the need of adding in Yoshi's of course.

We had discussed getting rid of PS2 and Jungle Japes, and from the Alien Games tournament, we seemed to talk of doing a few more...?

Ledge Grab - sounds good.

Scrooging - annoying, but until METAKNIGHT IS BANNED, guess we can't avoid it :)

Cost Increase - you are against, OKgamers is neutral.  We aren't increasing "our part" - as depending on the event, OKgamers often doesn't even take anything to COVER "our part" lol.

The cost increase was to keep up with regional standards.  It was stated

Bi-Weeklies - $5
Monthlies - $10

While OKgamers does not have a standard monthly, it falls closer into that range, thus the idea of increase.

So far - we have 2 votes against Entry Fee increase, 1 vote for no changes at all, and one vote to trim back Start Stages.

I think Ledge Grab and Scrooging is unopposed currently.

Anyone want to weigh in?
After this thread hasn't seen any activity in a few days, we'll assume SSBB players are happy, and adopt the rules.  There will be one "anything else" warning post by me before that of course.

My vote is toward keeping the the 5 starter stages:

Battlefield
Final Destination
Smashville
Yoshi's Island
Pokémon Stadium 1

(In my experience 5 picks give the player more of an even playing ground by influencing the type of ground to fight on, especially when playing projectile characters or ice climbers :-P like my bro)

Removing two of the counter pick stages: (as discussed at the Alien Games tournament)

Jungles Japes
Pokémon Stadium 2

Also, I agree with the scrooging and ledge grab rule (to 45 grabs)
Don't know if this is possible, but at the Alien Tourney we could pay a discount price if we pre-registered. The price increase to $10 would be cool if we can do something like that.

Well, as much fun as sharing an opinion is guys - the last few posts were not discussion, but just sharing of their own views?  If we discuss changes, we can go forwards with those.  Simply providing new and dynamically different versions and views won't get is anywhere...

...however?  NONE OF THAT MATTERS ANYMORE!  YAY!

What DOES MATTER - What we are CURRENTLY DOING - vs MLG CURRENT RULES:

It's been stated that MLG rules are being accepted all over the Nation STRAIGHT as they are.

...if we do that?  Well here are the FULL RULES for Orlando MLG - http://pro-circuit.mlgpro.com/pro-circuit/2010/orlando/online-qualifiers/super-smash-bros-brawl-1v1/rules-settings

Our current rules - http://www.okgamers.com/pdf/ssbb-rules.pdf

(There has been STRONG support of adding a ledge grab rule of around 50 or 60?  And no "Scrugging" or flying under the map with MK to delay matches.)  We should add that, but if we straight adopt MLG - what's it matter?

Anyway, so what's different from what I see?

Our starters are 5, there's 9.
OKg -
Battlefield
Final Destination
Smashville
Yoshi's Island
PK Stadium 1

MLG ADDS:
Castle Siege
Delfino Plaza
Halberd
Lylat Cruise
Counter Picks -
OKg:
Frigate Orpheon
Jungle Japes
Rainbow Cruise
Lylat Cruise
Pokémon Stadium 2
Delfino
Norfair
Pictochat
Pirate Ship
Brinstar
Castle Siege
Halberd

MLG takes away:
- Jungle Japes
- Pirate Ship

MLG adds:
+ Green Greens

Rules - things that stuck out as different:

If the Timer runs out, the winner of the Game will be determined by the following criteria in this order: Stock and Percentage.  If Stock is used to determine a winner, the highest number will win.  If Percentage is used to determine a winner, the lowest number will win.  If both Stock and Percentage are tied, Sudden Death won’t be used and a Tiebreaker Round will be played instead.  In a Tiebreaker Round, Stock will be set to 1, the Timer will be set to 4 Minutes, and the same Stage and Characters must be used.

If the Timer runs out and a Player exceeds the Edge Grab Limit for that Game’s Stage, that Player will Forfeit the Game.  However, if the Timer runs out and both Players exceed the Edge Grab Limit for that Game’s Stage, the penalty will not be enforced (See All Matches Rule #7). The Edge Grab Limit on Norfair will be 45.  The Edge Grab Limit on all other Stages will be 35.  The Edge Grab Limits only apply to Games/Tiebreaker Rounds in which the Timer runs out.

--

What did I miss?

What do you guys think about switching?

DISCUSSION can be held till 4/23 on whether we SHOULD NOT switch to MLG rules.

If there is just random chatter, or no discussion, then we'll adopt MLG rules.

If points are made, and debated, then a discussion will be happening, and we'll go off those calls made, if anything actually lines up.  Aka - if you guys can come to a concensus.  Just a bunch of chatter, we go MLG like other area's.

You've got a week.
