Possable Gaming Con in OKC 2012.
« on: June 05, 2011, 06:45:32 pm »
Hey Yall, A lot of people are urging me to run an all gaming con in the OKC metro in 2012. Let me know what you think and what you would like to see run.

There was also some talk for a smash national either in OKC or in Dallas sometime next year. So there is some potential.

Can I help? Do something that would help get ALL the gamers in Oklahoma in one location. Alerting people about older gamers, pc gamers, arcade gamers, shooters, fighters, board, and then include stores like game x change, game stop, vintage stock and those other stores that sale games.

I'm looking at the OKC Metro area, a hotel or motel with convention space. Thats affordable. And most likely 2012.

Were you the guy I talked to that did Historical Miniatures?  If so - I guess a lot of these questions are already answered hahah.

Hey Yall, A lot of people are urging me to run an all gaming con in the OKC metro in 2012. Let me know what you think and what you would like to see run.
 Jonathan Keepers.

Sounds like you've ran events lately - what was the event, and what's your experience?
What business / group do you represent?
What gaming genre's are you focusing on?
What game groups would you focus on?
What is your goals as far as attendance?
Where would you get your hardware?
What would be your reward for volunteers / TO's / etc?
What are some of your initial sponsors?

What would the ideal range for door cost be?

Game Cons - have come up to me several times lately - and I'm always hesitant.  Gamers barely show up to some of the local non-game centered but game supporting events - why would they show up any more to a game only event?  Sure with it being only games - that might be clear enough to get attention?  But - ultimately - what will you do to overcome the established hurdles?

Not trying to be mean, or rude - just curious on how these thoughts have been addressed, if they've been addressed, etc.  Also, if you would want any help from OKg - we are in the process of putting together a requirements form, and well, this would help you answer some of that if you were to want that help, etc.

X A

PS - and if you are the guy I talked to - I know a bit - but not enough hahah.

Yes I'm the crazy old guy you talked too. I have run or helped run gaming and scifi con in Oklahoma and Texas for the past 30 years...I kinda stopped after my Wife died in 2004.
Right now my backer is a local attorney, and friend. He wants a Historical Miniatures Con with some scifi and card games, maybe video as well. We are looking at Nov 11, 12 of this year still don't have a location. We will try to keep the price under 20 bucks for the week end..
OK ???
Oh and it was fun talking to yall !!!

Kyoteblue - wanna know something CRAZY!  We just got a HISTORICAL MINIATURES sponsor for Tokyo in Tulsa - we'll have what you love there~!  Course, it'll be downtown Tulsa, and I know how much you dislike downtowns :)

I would love to have a con here.  I just moved here from ST.Louis where they have a small con called fear the con.  It is a lot of fun.  If you decide to do a con, I would rec comend using the re gristration software they created for their con.  It makes it easy to set up and sign up for games online.

This would be so cool.  I have several ideas for games I could run.
