Why OKgamers also throws events?
Our primary goal - a resource for gamers in OK, however we also want to help out the gaming communities!  All events held by our volunteer staff of OKgamers is to get the word out about OKgamers.com as well - the site for casual and hardcore gamers and businesses in the Oklahoma area to post gamer related events and tournaments, get players together, and go to find out what's going on in our area.  Tired of hearing Oklahoma has nothing to do?  OKgamers proves things are going on all the time!  Want to help out the OKgamers cause of spreading the word, so we actually KNOW what's going on around the area?  -
 - Join our staff! (http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1421.0)
 - Learn how College and HS students can get community service through volunteering with OKgamers! (http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1487.0)

YES gamers, we expect if you show up at our event, to be familiar with everything this thread has pointed out :)
(As, there is no way to KNOW about this event fully, without this thread.  Please take the time to read up!)

Location -
Funhouse at the Riverwalk
500 Riverwalk Terrace, Suite 100
74037
Map: Google Maps link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=500+Riverwalk+Terrace,+Suite+100+74037&ie=UTF8&z=15&om=1&iwloc=A)

SSBB 2v2
AFTER SSBB 1v1.  If we can get SSBB 1v1 done by around 8, we'll consider doing a 2v2, after assessing interest, and hardware present; it all comes down to having enough machines to do it quickly - both the 1v1, and then the 2v2.

PRIZES -

THANKS TO Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems, Fox Searchlight, and Focus Features for the awesome Movie related prizes and swag!  We'll be giving 2012 Hats and T's, "THIS IS IT" the Michael Jackson soundtrack, and even more swag from movies like 9, ARMORED, Legion and more!

All games entry fees go into their game's pot.  then:

SF4 - 60/30/10 of it's pot
SSBB 1v1 - 60/30/10 of it's pot
BB - 60/30/10 of it's pot
Tekken 6 - 60/30/10 of it's pot
(SSBB 2v2 will be free, unless all teams agree otherwise.)

Cost -
Like most events, there is a location fee, and tournament fees.  Spectating?  Free.

5$ location cost - for those playing in a tournament (Think of it as the way to give back to them for hosting us.)
This gets you 10$ in tokens. [Tokens are Funhouse tokens, to spend on DDR, Initial D, Time Crisis, Soul Calibur 2, and other fun video games, as well as ticket games they have at that venue.]

YOU ONLY PAY LOCATION ONCE AN EVENT.

5$ per tournament pot cost.  Any tournament you play in cost 5$, and goes into that games' pot for 1-3rd.

TOTAL? =
Playing in SSBB 1v1 or SF4 tournament?  5 for location, 5 for tourny = $10
Playing in both SSBB 1v1 and SF4 tournaments? 5 for location, 10 for tournys = $15

AS YOU CAN SEE - OKgamers makes no money doing this, that's not what this is about - go read our goals.  This is all volunteer, in the hopes of improving Oklahoma by networking through one site for gamers.  Don't abuse staff, or give us a hard time - as we aren't getting paid to put up with it :)

SPECTATORS -
This is a public location, and of course watching is free.  However, only tournament entrants, and staff may use the machines.  Spectators may watch, but are asked to leave the machines to those playing.

Street Fighter 4 Rules:
Format:    2/3 Rounds, 2/3 Games, Double Elimination, 99 Seconds, No Handicap
Rules:    If the players do not agree on a stage within 15 seconds, the match will be random stage select.
Console:  PS3

Non-Major: Default Settings 2/3 prelims, 3/5 semifinals, 3/5 finals
Majors and up: Default Settings 2/3 prelims, 3/5 semifinals, 4/7 finals

This means there are no bans on any characters.

Banned:
Any infinite banned

SSBB Rules -
* 3 stock 8 minute time limit
if there isn't a winner by the end of the time limit, then the winner is whoever has the most stocks. If stocks are tied it is whoever has LESS damage.
* all items are turned off
* if there are teams then team attack is ON

* Remaining rules for SSBB can be found here - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1770.0 (http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1770.0) *

Tekken 6 and Blaz Blue rules still in finalization - you can find them here:
http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,2654.0.html (http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,2654.0.html)

**IF A QUESTION ON RULES ARRISES BEFORE A MATCH STARTS, FIND A STAFF MEMBER!**
Let us resolve the rules, and get you going again!

What you need:
We seriously suggest you bring your own controllers.  We may happen to have a few extra around, but it's always best to bring your own - less concern about your performance as well :)

Can you bring hardware?  It would help out!  A "Setup" consists of a TV, console, game, controllers if possible and save data.  TV - 19" or above, tube preferrably, and remote if you can't change to input on the front.  SF and SSBB - FULLY UNLOCKED (SF = all available, SSBB 'more rules' and all 35 characters, and levels), and any controllers would be appreciated, however we encourage people to bring their own.  And of course, the game, console and any required cables.

How you should act:
We are at a public arcade - please respect all around you, and remember your in public - so act accordingly.

Spectators and Players - absolutely NO interference during a tournament match.  No harrasing your friends or their opponent, messing with controllers or settings, etc.  When 2 people play each other, they are to be respected and observed, not distrurbed.  Please do not test us on this :)

What else can you do - Well, spread the word!  Remember, not everyone finds a flyer or knows about OKgamers!

***REMEMBER, WE DO RELY ON THE PLAYERS TO BRING ENOUGH HARDWARE - what is enough?  At least 2 to 3 setups for SF4, and 5 to 6 for SSBB, 2 for BB.  We will cancel a game's tournament if we do not have enough hardware that shows up ON TIME.(We ask hardware to be there typically 20 to 30 minutes before the tournament is set to start, see times.)  Why is this? OKgamers.com can only organizes events, yet as the front page explains we are not a company, nor do the venues we work with have everything.  Help us help you have a great event!

We reserve the right on ANY game to make on the spot changes to the tournament rules, such as a change to Single Elimination if there is not enough hardware, or too many people show up ["Too many" only determined by us not having the hardware brought to meet the demand in the time we have - be sure you understand that].  We have to be done no matter what at Funhouse by 11pm, thus the concern.  [Will we change?  Only if we HAVE to.  Hardware and you determine that.]

Sharpen up your game, we'll see you soon!

Go out to your blogs and your websites and your myspaces - and link back to this thread - it helps - trust me.  Also, check out myspace and add us!

Any of these will be more than enough thanks :)

(DON'T FORGET TO HELP US SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE TCC TOURNAMENT!  That's a big event we want to go well!)

HxC has started a thread about improvements - since it's the newest in this conversation line of improvements please take a minute to clarify what you were confused about there:

http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,2569.0.html (http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,2569.0.html)

And we'll look into it.  We've already got some stuff in the works, but yea, will review!

As for what you are doing - I do feel it's pretty well explained in the Volunteer thread - http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,1487.0.html (http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,1487.0.html)

Comment there if you would, thanks!

As I recall you've both done well at the last few events.  PLEASE DO come to both, but especially the Jan event - I spoke with hundred of students over the course of this week...

...and more than a few that'll be gunning for the title of "BEST" in Halo, SF4, SSBB, and Tekken - BB didn't have any verbal challenges, but trust me, the word is out, and OKgamers asks the "Best" from our previous events to show and rep for their titles.

Any chance at throwing T6 in the mix? Be nice to get some seeds for the Jan tourn.

Any chance at throwing T6 in the mix? Be nice to get some seeds for the Jan tourn.

My BIGGEST concern other than time - is hardware, which can technically solve both.

So.  If we can get 2 confirmed setups each for SF, BB and T6 - within the next week - then yes.  We'll change up promotion to include all 4 games.

SETUP = TV, working cables to connect to that TV, console, game, and save data to be fully unlocked.  Controllers are nice, but considered optional.

I have enough TV's to cover several if not most of those.  It's a matter of PS3's and games, and saves.

HARDWARE LIST FOR X A:
6 good TV's (AV connectors)
4 okay TV's (mainly COAX - need converters, vcrs, etc)

WOULD NEED HELP GETTING MOST OF THOSE THERE.

SSBB - cables for AV, console, game, and save data.

PS3 - but don't have any save data, would need to take care of before event.

So -

DEC 13th HARDWARE CONFIRMED:
SSBB - one setup (1 of 6)
PS3 - needing game and save data (.5 of 2 / 2 / 2)
4 av TV's (need help getting there)
4 coax / meh TV's  (need help getting there)

That's what I know.  SMASH - we need AT LEAST 3 to 5 more setups.

Tekken - you need at least 2 setups for yourself, as well as at least 4 setups for SF and BB total before we can add T6 to the line up.  We'll give you till people either verify they are coming with it, or till Nov. 4th when we do final count.

Update -
DEC 13th HARDWARE CONFIRMED SO FAR:
SSBB - 3 of 6 needed with 2 extra Wii's?
Tekken 6 - 2.5 of 2 needed (need another TV for dirtylei's)
SF4 - 0 of 2 needed
BlazBlue - 1 of 2 needed

XA's TV stash:
2 av TV's left (need help getting there)
4 coax / meh TV's  (need help getting there)

THIS UPDATE FOR STASH -
 - One already taken to make AnimeFreak setup work, may need him to pick up!
 - One already taken to make onedirtylei setup work, may need him to pick up!  (Dirtylei - took you up on your 2 ps3's, plus mine we'll just need to find a 3rd tv from someone, or verify your 3rd can hook up to one of my remaining tv's, and of course get that tv out there.)

i have 4 wii's at my house and like 9 tv's.  7 of them being HxC's haha.
I'm going to assume ALL of those Wii's are available then, and let me know on the other 7 HxC TV's, as I'll only put you down for 2 tv's.

--
Execute - please read the thread, and no I'm not FB'ing you ANYTHIGN!  lol.  Anyway, as the thread explains above we are requiring hardware promises by 11/4 to confirm Tekken.  Between Monster Man buying Tekken, and onedirtylei's 2 ps3's - we should be good for TEKKEN - but I won't allow Tekken in if we don't have GUARANTEED 2 SETUPS FOR BB and SF4 as well.

Note - we can't use 1 setup for 2 games - as they'll probably be running concurrently.  This is why I took AnimeFreak's setup and dedicated it to BB, and BB only, etc.

STILL NEED HARDWARE FOR BB / SF4 to get TEKKEN IN.  You have till Nov 4th then we make our final call.

A NOTE FOR THOSE THAT CAN'T BRING HARDWARE - let me put this into CLEAR ENGLISH:
It's cool - we understand you either don't have a ps3 version, etc.  HOWEVER - since it's not been clear in the past to some, I'll make it 100% clear with this post...

Casual Gamers - help spread the word about OKgamers and it's events (which are created to help spread the word lol) because the more people who FIND the site, the better resource it is.

Hardcore and TOURNAMENT WINNING GAMERS - help spread the word because it not only helps the TOURNAMENT ATTENDANCE, it gives X A, AND THE OTHER TOURNAMENT ORGANIZERS a reason to keep DOING TOURNAMENTS.  We do this because we **HOPE** when we go through all the effort and time spent to do an event, you the gamers are helping us to spread the word - which is your ONLY WAY to show thanks for us helping gamer's communities to grow, word getting out you exist AT ALL, us throwing a solid rule based event, and providing something to do and have a good time at! ( and oh yea, putting money in the winners pockets lol )

Why this rant?
We've found key SSBB players didn't catch on to that.  We've found SF4 players that give us crazy looks when we talk of helping out. They are HURTING themselves and everyone else...
If you're not helping OKgamers 'spread the word' - you're not only hurting yourself and your friends - you are eliminating the only motivation OKgamers has to throw events.  TO GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE SITE.

 - "Word out" about the site - means more people know and use it, becoming a better resource.
 - As a better resource, more people know and show up for tournaments; larger and more fun events happen as a result.
 - Larger and more fun events - more sponsors are interested, more random free stuff for you the gamers, and larger payout to those that win.

Make sense?  ( No one's mad if you've not done it in the past or caught on, we just ask - help us from here out?  :) )

We throw tournaments to get the word out, to make the site known and thus the best resource it can be.
Help OKgamers be the best it can be, spread the word; it's literally all we ask for.  Thank you :)

@typ ex: LOL I can't tell if you are saying that you have heard I'm good or bad at tekken. Oh well you guys will see if these tournies go down.

@saif: hahahahhaa I failed and read the thread after my post. Well if I come I could bring my copy of ps3 street fighter 4, blazblue, and tekken 6. My TV is not a good travel tv though. I don't think I could bring my ps3 either :S I don't even know if that's helpful.

EDIT @typ ex: if you were referring to my brawl skills I'm &##()#*)($# INSANE at it now. Don't know if I will play in the tourney though, I really don't like that game. TEKKEN BABEEE

DOUBLE EDIT: I'm calling it right now that execute will NOT win the tekken tourney  ;D

Saif - it is possible that i can bring a ps3 (now that i have one wooooo) and a copy of BlazBlue (probably... im about to order a copy  from amazon someday soon) if you need them, i dont have a suitable tv though. Also i probably wouldn't have any astral heats unlocked because really, who uses those? Oh and i could bring a wii plus fully unlocked brawl if you need that. BUT i need to check my schedule and will get back to you later today, hopefully.

Well, even if Bee's and Excute come through, we are still short either one BB and one SF4 or TWO SF4 setups - so we don't have the potential hardware / time to spare for Tekken it seems.  January will just have to be the big throw down!

SPEAKING OF HARDWARE - now that we are not including a 4th game - maybe we went wrong with SF4 in the first place?  I'm concerned that there wasn't more hardware love for SF4 - do we need to pull SF 4 totally and replace it with another game?  The event needs hardware help for SF4 for sure, and hope that the BB hardware promises are good to go still.  2 setups and a big turn out will still be too little, so we'll go for as much as we can get.  More hardware - faster tournament, more options for casuals at the end.

The way we judge what tournaments to throw is hardware as much as forum chatter - if no one cares about SF4 and does about other games, we can pull it - I just thought there was a scene, right?  Please let us know, don't want to waste your time - and we need to start promoting this event on Facebook, etc.

It's the 5th - by the 10th if we don't have something more locked in we may pull or swap in Tekken to assure interest - we won't change anything after that though, so please let us know what you are thinking and can do!

Sir Alex - that would help, thanks!

onedirtlei - as I recalled you said you could help with hardware, especially if we have Tekken?  So let's go with yes :)

No we must have sf4 lol. I only have the game for 360 and can bring 2 setups for 360 but since we are doing it on ps3 i cant help sorry.

Lone - I know your a 360 guy, and no problem there - I just hope you ARE helping us actively promote - whether that's signing up on the facebook events and spreading it to your friends, to just word of mouth online and irl - you know you have a solid chance of winning...  that OKgamers is made of just gamers like you... and that if you want this site and events like this to work?  We need the hardcore like yourself helping to promote.  Doing that?  No complaints on hardware.  Maybe you can come get some TV's to help as well if you have a car and the ability, just let me know.

GOING TO GO AHEAD AND THROW TEKKEN IN - STICKING WITH SF4 AND BB, and of course SSBB

However.  We will stick with our statements on hardware/rules/time - If we don't have enough hardware showing up by the time of tournament start - we reserve rights to change to single elim, etc.  (As always, we'll do our best to avoid  cancelling if any setups shows up at all, please help us help you - help out with hardware to make this go smoothly!)

Being at the Riverwalk Funhouse, and the Funhouse's hours being 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays (according to their website http://www.riverwalkfunhouse.com/Location.htm (http://www.riverwalkfunhouse.com/Location.htm)), I would assume that the doors literally open at eleven. Sign up for the first event, SSBB, starts at 2:30 p.m., so in that sense the "doors" could also open then, unless you run on Saif time, in which case the "doors" open sometime between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.

SC seems to have lived it's course, and with no real interest coming from anyone it's natural to move on to the next games - so in effect SC has been pulled to make room for new and more popular games, like Tekken and Blaz Blue.

I'm sure we could be talked into a freeplay station at some point if the game was brought, and the tournament runs smoothly.

well i'm glad you've been playing soul cal, but right now it's not as new and popular as the games that we will have at the tournament. i figure in a few month's time we'll see soul cal come back and be at more of our tournys. anywho, don't stop practicing.

Actually, they most likely are better :)  As, the 'team' was Outkast and Fro, so yea, 2 of the best players in OK.  Speaking of which, we'll have to see how the Norman official rankings compare to these 2 tournaments results, should be interesting!

I'm just saying I'd like to hear who said I suck, because I cash everything I go to :/ . Mike Weng just won little rock gamer con in AR for 240$ I didn't go and I've beaten him in 7 out of 8 sets in tournament. Mike is very good and he is always difficult, but I'm just saying Mike just got done winning that thing beating saberguy, chamberlin, etc. and Mike would openly admit I'm better than him at brawl.

I hate brawl, because it could have been so huge the melee community was enormous, but they had to make online awful and dumb the game so far down that it's corny now. I mainly play ssf2thdr, now that game is sick.

And about MMing in games I don't like. I only play brawl in tournies now a days I don't mind playing it if there is some cash on the line, I'm just telling you if you want to play friendlies all the time there are much more worthy games like actual fighting games such as ssf2thdr, sf4, guilty gear xx, sc4, 3s, mvc2, cvs2, sooooo many.

MvC2 is a solid game that is played at evo, the fighting game nationals for the United States, every year. The fact that evo features this game speaks for itself. I don't care what your personal preference of the game is, I'm stating it's a much more solid fighter than brawl, which it is.

@Jesus: I was talking about MMing Typ_Ex in brawl because he was running his mouth saying I'm not good at brawl, or if you want to be technical implying and directly eluding to the fact that he thinks I'm no good at brawl, despite my stellar tournament record. AKA cashed everything in the last year and a half have top 8ed every brawl event I've been to period, which includes a 128 person tournament in Dallas. I am not nearly skilled enough in tekken 6 to MM you, but if I can come to either of these events I will FT5 or FT10 with you for fun.

@typ_ex: if you are interested in gg xx you should try it out. If it's fun then it'll be worth trying to get into it, maybe just get into it with a couple of other friends who have never played it.

Power Ranking - feels truncated.  It has results that don't seem to represent as much of what Tulsa see's for well, a lot of tournaments.  Feels like Tulsa area tournaments don't get as factored into PR.  So - I'm hoping Norman will be showing up in force for the 12/13 event, but especially the 1/23 event - as it'll be on par with the previous year's Mustang event in efforts and sponsorship on our end, and can hopefully provide a reflection on the PR rankings are well represented or in need of updating.

FK - I'd say that as many events as have happened outside of Norman, it can feel like they don't seem to factor in fully.  Argue it or not, we'll see what the top 10 of the 1/23 event is, and go from there from my perspective :)  And if you'd like to volunteer as a supporter and correct my grammar and spelling, the form link is on the front page and first post :)

Bees - ALWAYS NEED HARDWARE.  We've never had too many setups.  Maybe an extra console here or there, but no true over load on full setups, we'll take them, and use them.   Else, provide a safe place to store till after the event.  Bring your hardware - we'll need it.

Wizard - shirts aren't required, just always appreciated.

GAMERS - AN UPDATE - TAKE A SEC TO REVIEW:

RULES -
Wireless controllers are allowed - but MUST have their batteries pulled and turned off after your match.
TURBO on controllers - must be off, no macro buttons in use.  If your caught, very bad.
BB / TEKKEN - rules updated, please review link in rules above.
SSBB - if we need to get planking in there for 1/23 - express it at 12/13.
SSBB - 1/23 we'll DISCUSS the idea of having some MK banned events LATER  (feb/march) to test the waters - until then, MK is NOT banned, and all the rules stand as still accurate.

Anything not covered here - is covered in the first post.  SSBB - has a HUGE rule list, please make sure you review.

NOTE THE TIMES:
We've had a complaint that "previous Funhouse tournaments were not ran on time" enough for some of our travellers...  SO.  This events times are running ON TIME.  We'll appraise hardware present, and follow our rules as posted on how things go from there.

Don't be late please :)

HARDWARE - Determines a lot.  Read the first post.

XA's LARGE SUPPLIES OF TV's - WON'T MOVE THEMSELVES:

Staff - got a few extra minutes?
Gamers who can't bring TV's but want to help out, or you have extra space?

I have 8 TV's that I can't get to FH without you.  Swing by my house between 1 and 1:30pm the day of and take some TV's.  Bring them back between 8pm and 1am while either my roommate or I'll be back by.

BE PROACTIVE - these TV's won't take themselves.  There will be NO GOING AFTER THEM ONCE THE EVENT STARTS.  It's come help us take them by 1:30pm when I need to head out to FH, arrange a time before that with me, or they won't be there, and we'll be relying even more on other attending gamers.  We cut a game back to single elim, etc - due to no TV's?  That's the way it'll be.  Fair warning.

Contact me on where to pick one up, or if you need to arrange earlier pickup.

ONE Week away - SEE YOU IN A FEW DAYS!

hey saif off topic, but do you guys do anything on weekdays? Like a hang out day for video games? I can get to Tulsa on random days now and I thought it would be nice if I could sit down and just do friendlies with you guys. I always wind up just having to do serious business is serious tournament matches. Still don't know if I can come to this December one with how my stupid finals are scheduled. Oh yeah a friend of mine is thinking of throwing an SF4 tourney that would be 5 a person with 100 thrown in. The point of that tourney is not for him to make money, bc he is the one throwing the 100 in. He is doing that in hopes that we can attract some really good people for a fun sf4 tourney in fayetteville, I'll keep you posted as we figure this thing out. I want do play you guys in friendlies in everything sometime, just for kicks.

P.S. Don't sweat that power ranking stuff. Fayetteville/Fort Smith was completely ignored in power rankings for melee in Arkansas. Steve and I were completely left off the top 10 throughout the entirety of melee, and I am still given no credit outside of that state in brawl lol. I don't even look at power rankings anymore, everyone who matters in tournament knows who has it and who doesn't.

Sign up for the first event, SSBB, starts at 2:30 p.m., so in that sense the "doors" could also open then, unless you run on Saif time, in which case the "doors" open sometime between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.

I bought an arcade stick a long time ago and I used to go to the arcades all the time. I was horrified when I found out my hori stick was a square gate. I could not do an uppercut or fireballs to save my life. Fast forward a year and a half or so and I only play on square gates now. Is there a certain motion that is messing you up mung? also the best single piece of advice I've gotten for how to use stick is to do moves with your fingers not your wrists. Also it is usually a good idea to hold the stick kind of sideways with your hand. Arturo 'sabin' Sanchez has a good video on youtube for learning how to hold a stick.

ps blazblue cs is the worst game ever bc ice car b doesn't knock down anymore :S

The octo is just what I've always been used to.  When I was younger playing in arcade - octogate.  Custon arcade stick for the SNES - Octogate.  It's just what I have always used until I bought a TE.  I put the g squaregate back in last night.  It's still weird to use but I guess I'll stick with it.

Affinity - you might need to throw your friend under the bus then :)  If it was an event ran by OKgamers, and namely me in specific - I always call over a rep from any group that has travelled to review the seeding...

Which tourny was it?  All I can assume is I guess Inferno came over, and you didn't notice?  Anyway, YES - we'll seed by location AND skill - as we always have from my knowledge - and when it comes time - I'll call YOUR name to rep for your group fo sho.

not quite sure what "swag" is.  but anyways.  last time kansas was there, we decided to hold a "Kansas vs Oklahoma" thing (which oklahoma won...kind of).  Which i could have sworn OKgamers did run.  but if inferno ran it than im sorry.

******* ****!  I did not realize what that date was.

The lot of our PR will not be showing up to this for a very good reason.  If anybody were to show up itd be josh, alex, and maybe paul and chris.

Swag.  Free stuff. Often limited run promotional items, fun stuff, etc.

KS vs OK?  I dimly remember that, but I can assure you we make it a habit of checking with KS, Norman, OKC, etc - anytime they travel to make sure we haven't put their guys in bad spots.  The only time I remember bad times for Affinity's crew was when they didn't remember one of their guys real names, and he got put up against a KS second round?  IIRC at least.  Anyway, like I said, I'll specifically get his attention personally so that we avoid it at 12/13, and 1/23.

No Norman PR types eh?  What is this - good reason!! lol

Anyway - it's going to be a great event, but the last showdown of 09 will be only a warm up compared to 1/23.  This'll also give some of the new players we'll probably see showing up a chance to get to know more of the local Tulsa and out of state types before meeting Norman.

hokay so i checked the terms and rules and stuff and don't think this is against them, so sorry if it is, but i have a Xbox 360 SE Fightstick that I no longer want since i switched to PS3 and got my TE fightstick for that. Anyways, i was going to sell the SE on craigslist, but if any of you want first dibs, i will be bringing it with me. If theres a 360 setup at Funhouse for some reason and you want to try it out thats fine as well... its not in 100% condition thanks to the lovely parts madcatz included, even though i only used it lightly, but i assume you would slap some sanwa in there anyways. I was thinking 35 dollars, cash. If you have any questions, you can PM me or reply here, i will probably check it a few times before tomorrow. If you are saif and this is against the rules, you can just backhand me i guess

Typ_EX - are you into soap operas?  Cause like, it's either the love of delaying like a bad daytime show lagging you into the next day, or lack of clear communication that you couldn't just say "Most of the Norman crew has finals".  Srsly, are you okay Tom?

Anyway - we'll practice up and see the rest of the Norman crew 1/23 - from hundreds of dollars worth of door prizes and giveaways, to hopefully not being up against any serious school schedules, the TCC event will be good times :)

Bees - no problem selling / sharing deals / etc - the site is here to be a resource - just stay on topic eh?!  lol

SEE YOU GUYS IN A FEW HOURS!@#

But.  It served as a great warm up, and I know from what I heard everyone had good times, and that's what counts.  SSBB we did 1v1 and 2v2, and SF4.  BB and T6 didn't have much of a turn out especially due to the same reasons that hurt SSBB, and so we just let them do a round robin to determine victory.

SSBB - I'll fill out what I saw - let me know the rest guys.

1: Chuck Nasty - Metaknight, Tulsa
2: Afrotastic - Snake, Tulsa
3: Raigoth Dagon (Dragon?) - Samus, Neosho MO

Typ_EX - are you into soap operas?  Cause like, it's either the love of delaying like a bad daytime show lagging you into the next day, or lack of clear communication that you couldn't just say "Most of the Norman crew has finals".  Srsly, are you okay Tom?

BB and T6 results were different, we had to do a round robin since not even 8 people showed up. (BB had 7, Tekken had 5)

3. Bees (Tager)
4. Tomo (Jin/Noel)
5-7 is Flip (Noel), Kelley and Joshua (Jin) in some order because Kelley and Flip left before the tourney ended.

Results post updated!  SF players, do you want to let me know what characters, or does it matter lol.

Sadly - the following is just 2 responses lol.

Typ_EX - do you realize that you're coming off insulting?  That - all you had to do was go "oh yea, finals week!!" - and that's the end of that?  My perspective might be skewed here, but reading that, seems like your trying to make me the bad guy in some story.  What is with that Tom?  Are you addicted to drama?  You want to perceive life as it is and take life seriously, choosing school over video games - that's a great level-headed direction.  Let's talk you apparently starting crap for no reason I know.  I'm feeling more grounded than EVER, of course I've got a funeral to attend in 2 days for a friend that decided to end his life, so maybe I'm a bit emotional right now.  But hey - it's a forum - YAY - let's clear up what you never seem to say in person but comes out everywhere else.  I've been told that I'm the same online or irl - but hey, I'll start the sharing!  I feel - I'm nice to you, considerate to all your friends in Norman and players you know around the region, and well to be frank, go out of my way to accommodate the way you think things should be.  Course, in part that's because you HAVE an opinion, and that's good, since so few speak up, but still, I really feel I LISTEN.  I feel you are nice to my face, then seem to go OUT OF YOUR WAY to cause drama - such as this post.  Seriously "woops, finals week, can't come" - that's like a twitter update length there.  All the secrecy and comparing people to others - I don't get it.  Another thing I don't get - you have a problem with me, come to me.  If it's a problem with OKgamers - there's an entire forum called improvements - please use it.  If you have a problem with me, and don't want to say it to my face, I've got email, PM's, and facebook.  But complaining and bad mouthing me to complete strangers - who feel bad enough to relay it back to me later?  SERIOUSLY TOM?  Why are you causing drama?  What have I done?  I can pull the "starting OKgamers and putting time and effort and money into it" card, but if you don't realize any of that by now, you'll never do it.  So what bad karma have I sunk into you and your's that I deserve this drama?

MK - NO.  I did not get Josh to play MK to get him banned.  Why would you come from that angle?  Why would you 'call me out' on a public forum for something so scheming sounding and crazy?  Is this Yawara posting from your account - I don't need another run of that!  OH BOY!  No.  Anyway, OF COURSE NOT.  Did you talk all NORMAN'S MK players into playing him so someone would ban MK?  I doubt it, and it'd never crossed my mind, but hey, drama breeds drama.  Let's go here - MK - is a top tier killer of doom.  Tulsa - doesn't have a serious one, so Josh playing him - helps our local community deal with MK's PERIOD.  Then, there's the "Best fit" mentality - Josh wants to win - give him the best tools to do so.  MK is better than PT or GW by far, so...  Best too for the job.  The job is WINNING Tom?  What else should I have suggested?  Is Norman anti-MK?  I heard no.  Then again, Norman seems to not like me for reasons of either old school smashboard days, or maybe because they think I'm out to get you?  I know - I'm a scary guy Tom, I yell and everything.  I know it's hard to believe - but I REALLY DID start OKgamers to help out the community.  I REALLY DONT have an agenda waiting around the corner to own you or the local government.  I really do just believe in helping people - for whatever stupid reason that is.  Call me a fool, and soft hearted - because when I'm hated on and treated poorly for doing good things, that's all it feels like anyway.  I already learned key Norman players don't think OKgamers is worth the salt in tears it's taken to put together, but that's fine - I'll move on with that in mind lol.  What I'll stick to though is - community improvement, and what it takes to do that.  As for an agenda when it comes to SMASH?  THE OTHER TO'S DONT CARE ABOUT SMASH AS FAR AS I KNOW - I could probably push through whatever rules I want.  They are FPS, and console general, and PC / tabletop general gamers - no one takes smash as serious as I do of the TO's, and frankly I listen to Josh, Fro, Paul, Norman, and the occasional out of town player on what to do for SSBB, and do that - if I wanted something done...  Man I could just throw OKgamers reputation under the bus and do whatever I want!  But I don't do that, I want it to be a resource of value, so despite you throwing OKgamers under the bus as you have in the past knowing it or not, I'm not going to.  As far as I know, even if slight and not worth your respect, OKgamers has helped, and I won't tarnish what others have put into it for personal petty goals.

MK BANNING - has been brought up over and over again.  MY STANCE IS NOW AND FOREVER WILL BE:
OKgamers seems to have become the 'standard' for several groups in OK to follow for rules, etc.  As a result it's our duty to encourage what is best for the community - whatever the game, whatever the rules say nationally, to protect traveling in and out of the area.  Right now - SSBB USA hasn't banned MK at all that I know of.  The only ones we knew of that did anything close - Xyro in TX at monthly Hobos?  Of which, the next one - MK is not banned at?

OKgamers, having some responsibility in our community, will not hurt our local players chances, nor create rules that discourage traveling opponents from visiting.  What does OKgamers do - we are setup to help our local communities by providing more events, exposure, and above all else - communication that events are happening, and how to get to them, etc.  We will NEVER go against rules WE KNOW ABOUT - that would handicap players that decided to travel outside of OK, or a OKgamers influenced event.  Weak sauce, no.  We want our community to have every fair shot at being the best as we can afford - any game, any community.  I would think the Smash players in Norman would know that as much as we've worked with you Tom, as well as anyone we could latch onto to provide fair and balanced rules, and perspectives.  Seriously, why hurt OK players?

THE BAN MK AFTER 1/23 FOR A FEW EVENTS TALK - due to constant complaints in Tulsa since Josh has picked up MK seriously, and oh yea, all the hate for MK nationally that does exist, with him 'almost being banned' - we have made it clear that 12/13 and 1/23 would HAVE MK PLAYABLE.  HOWEVER - at the largest gathering we know of coming up - the 1/23 event, we'd discuss opening and quickly with the players present - the ones who obviously show up, travel, etc - what they want.  If we have an overwhelming interest, we'll throw a few no-MK events after that.  If it's 50/50, etc - there's really no need to worry, let complainers man up lol.

Tom - using someone so I could vote for pro ban?  I am pro MK ban, why would I need to have him do anything?  I would have also been pro-Jin banning in T4 - but as I've been told, Japan eventually exclipsed out the top Jin players by just getting better at beating Jin, even one guy using one of the lowest tier characters at the time, iirc?  And that Jin matchup seems almost fair in comparison to MK stats, but meh.  Anyway - my personal opinion only factors into starting discussions at best - I've made my position clear; but what the community wants it gets, OKgamers isn't my own personal platform for destroying MK, or anything else.  We've got a board of TO's to decide major OKgamers things, and for game rules trusted staff members and 'outside consultants' if you will - like yourself and several other Norman types, like Yawara and Le, who take their games seriously, and we know they are in touch with the national community, and can be trusted to give us the right info - to act off of.

Oh, and before you doubt your role as 'outside consultant' lol - please don't make me recount all the times we've jumped because you guys said something.  We've listened, and will continue to, because like I've tried to make clear - we are FOR OK, not out for personal blah.

*SO MUCH DRAMA!@#*  Why can't we all just communicate needs, and work together without so much of this drama -_-;;

Tiamoko - IGNORING TIERS IS LIKE SAYING THE WORLD IS FLAT.  Like saying your pinto will beat a lamborgini in a speed race.  Like saying a tube TV is better than a 60 inch LED tv....

Ignoring tiers isn't going to help you anymore than sticking your head in the ground.

...that said?  While yes tiers usually represent both mathematical results and community results which help focus that clear cut perspective - the newer the list the more they can be somewhat wrong, or challenged; but that's only in the cases of new finds that expand the characters base properties, or long term use changing how the community plays.  (problem is, the SSBB tier list isn't new lol)

Also, if your playing for fun - that changes things.  And never ever forget playing to your strengths...  Your Pinto MIGHT beat a Lamborghini - in a demolition derby.  Tube TV's don't have lag, while some older flat screens might, so for pro gaming, some tubes can seem 'better' for a tournament.  Then again, those are all cases of playing to the strengths of one, and potential weaknesses of others - and well, does Metaknight REALLY have big enough issues against anyone other than maybe the crazy hitboxer Snake?  As I know it, nope.

What does any of this mean? If you've put 120 hours into your B tier character, and they've put in 20 hours to their SS tier - you might be able to beat them.  You can out play the player, but when the math kicks in on a level playing field - tiers are the solid facts, please realize this.  Even in if you've practiced 10 times more than them, you are usually at a serious disadvantage playing low tier vs top tier, with crazy exceptions here and there that won't win the game, but can make things interesting at least.  Practice all you want, and love your character instead of the win - and that's cool.  Heck I play Rob, come on.  But the truth is - if we care about the WIN?  We should consider pouring our time into the best weapons - MK, MK, MK, and Snake.  Just watch tournament results, they don't lie.  Sucks?  That's life.  Video game companies can't afford to pay for all the time it takes to balance a game - they are trying to make a profit, and the 'hardcore' that want it are a fraction of the user base, drowned out by hordes of gamers that'll just buy a game because it's got Link in it.

Top tier isn't fair?  Cheating?  Since when is it cheating to use the best weapons?  Would you say - prefer Iraq and Afghanistan to play out with our men on the ground, face to face with pistols, instead of using our superior tech in air strength, etc?  To make it even more simple - it's not someone showing up to a knife fight with a gun, guys.  It's someone coming to a challenge, and choosing what they wanted to, based on their motivations.  All for the win - master a top tier.  Fun and hardcore fans - take on what they have to work with, and if they are successful, well they were playing to their strengths stronger than the other guy.  Gun beats sword, unless sword closes gap :)

Now - all that said.  Tiers also give you a CLEAR PATH - of what to study.  What to learn to beat.  What to watch out for.  Tiers also create a double edged sword for newer players - because someone that just picks a top tier character and doesn't know low tier can get 'parlor tricked' to death, never knowing what's coming, or how to defend against it.  Don't learn your opponents, don't know how to beat them.  In a cast as large as Smash or some of the 3d fighters, that's a real issue.

People who rag on low-tier are just acting like the mob they hang out with.  People who only play top tier may be missing the whole point of gaming - but if they are in it for the win - who's to say they are wrong?

Tiamoko - enjoy what you do, no matter what.  If you want to win easier in SSBB, or any fighting game - go top tier.  If you want to rep your favorite character, and they aren't top tier?  Realize you've got a harder path ahead of you, and that your rarely going to face easy battles, losing over and over again to people who may have put in less time than you, but simply have a 'win button' character.  And for fighting games - MK is really one of the worse feeling to me; but to be fair?  Rob V MK is the worst match up for Rob as I've been told, so no wonder it feels harsh to me :)  Perspective factors for us all, but the reality is as well represented as it can get with a mature tier list; don't fight it, embrace it and be better off for having a clear road map, and knowing where you stand.

The Tiers Are 4 ♥♥♥♥♥ comment was only meant for people who might have said "don't use Lucas he's gay, mid tier, rabble rabble rabble" I realize that there are tiers and that it does factor into the game but I don't look to much at it. Hey yo, I've been sleeping from all the work I have to do, but I just wanted to say that the views of TypEX and FK are not necessarily endorsed by Po Pimpus or his affiliates...

I missed this tourney, and judging by the results, I probably could have snagged a Top Three finish had I not chosen to work... Oh well. Just one of those things. I'll try to make it to the 1/23 event, so OK can have some accurate representation of skill, but I have to see if my schedule permits. *GF wants to go out of town that weekend, so yeah*

ONE LAST THING: Tom, you and Paul have been on Douche-Mode lately, and I see it isn't contained within Smashboards... However, I applaud you for focusing on school... For someone who LOST TO A LUIGI recently, I believe I would place my focus elsewhere as well.
As one of the elder statesmen of the community, I am very disappointed in the way the lot of you behave when it comes to people 'outside the circle'... If the Smash community in OK is to grow, we need to make an effort to INCLUDE EVERYONE who wants to be a part and contributes.

Saif, as I think I've mentioned to you in the past, I'm big on expanding the Smash scene, so I have always made a concerted effort to travel to as many events in-state and out as I can. However, as of late, my desire to play this game has waned. It takes a lot of planning and effort for me to make it out to these things. Work schedules, family, finances, etc. all take up a great deal of my energy. Then, I have to deal with the 'Douche Patrol' lording it up like they own a monopoly over all the skill in this community and putting down anyone they deem 'too weak' or unwilling to play the politics to get within the clique.
I respect you, and your efforts to reach out to ALL SMASH PLAYERS IN OKLAHOMA, despite having your hand bitten so many times by ungrateful, disrespectful punks who wouldn't know real skill if it Shoryuken'd them in the face (which it has on more than one occasion).
The Tulsa community is a very cool bunch of peeps, and while I started off on the wrong foot, you've all found a welcome place in my heart along with the many other cool peeps I've encountered during my journeys.

On the subject of tiers, I applaud anyone who has the guts to play to their strengths and pick a character who meshes with their personality and play style, rather than being an sheep and going for the 'easy button'. Not a knock on Josh, who is a phenomenal player in his own right, or any of the other OK Metas, but y'all know that ish is EASY like Sunday morning. Meta is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in a popular tourney game-- going against him with anything less than Snake is like fighting with a rock against a dude wielding a pistol-- It's just dumb. Yeah, you can kill with that rock, but you have to be so much more pro than the other guy that it at the end of day, you question whether or not it's worth the effort.
That doesn't mean I'm giving up: "JOSH YOU BETTER GO METAKNIGHT AGAINST ME, HE'S YOUR ONLY HOPE!" Yeah, I called you out. Because unlike the majority of people who make up the "NORMAN POWER RANKING" (cute name, btw), I am not afraid of losing. Mainly because I won't, but also because I go hard in the paint. I ain't afraid of no Mach-Tornadoing, Shuttle-Looping BS, and I will go straight for you jugular, EVERY SINGLE MATCH I PLAY.

That's a real competitor does it. Norman, watch Daddy and learn how it's done.

I mainly just wanted advice for playing him not to bash the Tier system, there was no need to rant that long about it. Maybe I just don't know how these boards work, sorry for any trouble.

Tiamoko - it's a online forum, like any else - people will take things the wrong way, be in bad moods, or just hide behind it's anonymity.  A COOL thing about OKgamers - we find the real trolls REAL FAST - as well, this is a unique setup - it's a online forum for a state, and if your not showing up to any event ever, well, one begins to be easily picked out :)  (Not to say anyone on here is a troll,  this is really just turning into another rant lool)

Anyway - totally makes sense to want to silence the tier bashers before hand, and I wasn't trying to be mean or anything, as much as just went on a tier rant - sorry, been a hard week :)  No offense meant on my part at least!!  As for 'a way the boards work' - it's a forum with some thread title rules in competition forums, that's about the only thing truly different :)

PhLo - awesome, thanks for sharing!

Po - I like you man :)

Anyway, never think that anyone, at least Tulsa types I know, are really "calling Norman out" when it comes to not showing up - it happens.  However, as the larger and more active group in OK, we expect you guys to show at larger events outta competition if nothing else, and that we want it :)   With 1/23 I want you to please make as much of an effort as possible, and encourage the other locals as well - because we've been touting it as "the best of OK" showing up, and don't want to disappoint if at all possible.

Norman being "mean" - I know personally it's only seems to be a few with this confusing attitude of hacking away at their own competition, local groups, etc.  I've got ZERO grudge against anyone down there - I think some perspectives of a retiree and more so, his lead hypeman got skewed after they threw any other Smash event and coordinator in OK other than OHSNAP under the bus as "not existing"; which I will admit was a turning point in the way I think of promotion with gamers - but not something I hate over.

Every time I've been round you Po?  It's been fun.  I plan on destroying that Luigi next time I see it :)   As for others, I've hung out with different Norman and OKC types at events, anime conventions - etc.  And had good times.  It's really only stuff with Yawara and Tom that seem to blow up, and that is even more confusing, because IRL, they always seem nice, etc.  Like I brought up earlier, I know I caused some drama early on on the Smashboards playing devils advocate, and to be honest it's so long ago I'd forgotten lool.  But, other than that, I'd like to hope I've put in good things, not bad, into the local Smash community - and appreciate any promotion of OKgamers and backing you've done, it all helps.

MK?  Seems to be around to stay, at least for a while.  I'm given the perspective TX is almost all MK, lool.  So?  I WELCOME and THANK Josh for playing a serious Metaknight - it only makes the Tulsa community better for it, and rivals Norman and the rest of OK to do the same.  If you can't beat them, join them.  If we can't ban MK, learn the matchup so well that you eliminate the win button, and make it a real battle once more.

In the end?  I think all the drama comes from misplacing competitive feelings, especially from the younger gamers.  WE ARE ALL OUR OWN COMMUNITY - sure we compete, but if you start taking the hate outta the game and start putting it on your locals, and into real life with people?  You'll lose your competition, and literally erode the ground from out beneath you.

Some fighting gamers are new to local gamer "community" and logic; I am not, 10+ years logged and counting.  Hate only destroys what you have; mud slinging only removes the ground your standing on.  Any grudge holding only splits and eventually erases individuals; then groups, and then communities as a whole.  It's just not worth it.
