Well its over.. but not really.   Considering if you currently Own a 360 its not over.... But my article tells you what to look for when you are shopping for a new XBOX 360 to ensure you get the new Jasper Chipset and new internal cooling features.  And I didnt include this in my article but forum posts on Ars Technia also state that power consumption with Jasper has been greatly reduced.

Probably about a month or two ago I got my 360 back from microsoft for RRoD.  The easiest way to find out if you had one of the newer models was to check the voltage.  It couldn't hurt to hope microsoft would bless me with the new jasper model as compensation for waiting to have my system fixed.  But of course it was the same power hungry model as before, so who knows how long my replacement will last.

Just look at your power Connector. That will tell you right away. Your power connector looks a little different  See Image Below

Then If you’re considering a new console, look for “12,1A” where the power information is listed on the back of the box.

I'm not sure which one I have... I can't tell.

It kinda looks similar to the Jasper, though...

1st has a plastic bar in the middle of the pins.
2nd gen has NO plastic bar in the middle of the pins
3rd gen has NO plastic bar in the middle of the pins, AND the long bar on the top of the pins is slotted into two bars instead of one (see 2nd/1st gen)

I have once again experienced the RROD just short a year from the first time. Poor 360. I hope they fix it right this time.

ARG mine just RR'd LAST NIGHT

I'm thinking of just following one of those guides and fixing it myself...

Anyone had any such luck?

If you are still under the RROD warranty, just send it back.  I got a turnaround time of 1 week.  But if its not, there are some people are craigslist that will fix it for you for cheap and they are experience.

if its under warranty, definitely send it in. microsoft is at least good at doing the clean up

i tried fixing mine since it was out when it broke, and it worked for about a month and then died again for good, and i know (for the most part) what i am doing with small electronics that i don't have to solder. so if you aren't a super pro, i would not recommend it.
