Rules for Super Smash Brawl and Melee as provided by current OK Smash Community Rep and TO Solidus via this thread.

As far as we know - these are the National standard, or as close as we can get; if there's an issue, please post.

PLEASE BE FAMILIAR WITH THESE RULES, ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND SOMETHING!

Super Smash Brothers Brawl Rules

Stages

Neutral Stages for Singles and Doubles
Smashville
Final Destination
Battlefield
Yoshi's Story
Lylat Cruise
Pokemon Stadium 1
Castle Siege

Counterpick stages for Singles and Doubles
Brinstar
Frigate
Norfair
Rainbow Cruise,
Halberd,
Delfino,
Pictochat,
Pokemon Stadium 2

All other stages are banned. If both players/teams agree on any stage you may play on it.

Stage Striking will be in effect for the first match of each set. The player with the lower port will get to choose the first strike. After each match, winner bans one stage, loser counterpicks stage, winner chooses character, loser chooses character. Continue until set is complete. Report your results promptly.

You cannot go back to the last stage you won in a set, unless agreed upon by the other player.

Double blind for character selection may be used if a player requests it.

SSBB GENERAL Rules:
3 Stock
8 minute timer
Items are set to "off" and "none"
If the time runs out the victor is determined first by the number of stock remaining. If each player maintains the same number of stock, the victor is determined by damage percentage.
Life stealing is allowed on teams.
All sets with the exception of winner's finals, loser's finals, and the championship are best of 3 matches (best of 5 and above should be played out for any "finals" matches)
In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors.
No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.
In team matches, the ports will be determined in a 1221 fashion; whoever wins the RPS will choose first, then the opposing team will get their ports, and then the teammate of the RPS winner will get the last port.
Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.
Stalling is banned.

Stalling: The act of deliberately avoiding any and all conflict so that one may make the game unplayable. Running away from an opponent to reach a better position is not stalling, while doing an infinite grab endlessly against a wall is. Planking is. Any infinite chain grabs must end quickly after 300% has been reached so as to prevent excessive stalling.

The Mage's DQ rule is also in effect:
2 Minutes Late: Warning/Loss of first stock
4 Minutes Late: Loss of first match of set
6 Minutes Late: Loss of set

Specific rules:
DeDeDe's Infinite grab: You cannot Chain grab in place (not even once). The small step CG is banned as well. Normal CG is legal.
The Infinite grab-release on ness/lucas is banned (do not even do it once). You must hit them out of the release, do not re-grab.
Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned.
If a game ends with Bowser doing his suicide klaw and it ends in sudden death, the sudden death will be ignored and that game will count as a win for Bowser.
MetaKnight Ledge Grab Limit Rule - All Metaknight's that enter a match will be under the LGL rule. Metaknights are allowed to grab the ledge a total of 40 times PER MATCH (assuming the game goes to timer). The numbers can be viewed after a match on the results screen. If you exceed the limit even by a single ledge grab you will lose your entire SET.
Metaknight Stage Gliding Rule - Adapted from Xyro77. Metaknight is not allowed to glide under any stage more than 2 times in a row. He must land an attack in order to be able to reset the the stage glide count.
Most of these rules are covered under “stalling” and are simply more articulate iterations of the “no stalling” rule. Judges will be on the tournament floor can be called in at any time to enforce this rule during a match. Play the game and have fun! Don't run/fly around the stage all day, that makes for a boring livestream amirite?

All Brawl rules apply to Brawl Minus side event.

So - if you visit the front page of OKgamers - the main content is the current tournaments "active" in the Tournament & Events forum...

When you click on the thread, it takes you to the MOST RECENT POST.

Did that confuse you?  You expect to view the first post - first?  Or, did that make sense?

We've kicked it around over the years, and the more I've thought about new users and learning curves, the more I realize we should probably - not do the latest post?  And go to the FIRST post?

Thoughts?

OKgamers has spent the last 5 years helping gaming groups we know about in OK; as for this event - no PC Lan?  We know of no PC community in OK that'll work with conventions and events / want to promote / etc - you one, contact us.
Board Games?  Because they have stores to support them, we aren't out to "compete" with businesses and duplicate efforts.
No DnD - same as Board Games and because we have no DM's on Staff.  No LARP - same as DnD.  No your console game - read above :)
PS3 vs 360 - Console Choice =  we go with the largest community backed event for this - Evo.  They went PS3, so did we.
(Due to MvC3 issues we've heard about, FUTURE events may be 360; we need to see who is who in the community, and after this event, we'll be discussing it to make sure we are good to go!)

SO, if you want a 2011 OKgamers hoodie, you'll only be able to order at this event!  We'll be charging you at cost, so if you want to order one, bring cash for your size(s) to order:
S-XL = $17   2X = $20   3X = $21   4X = $22   5X = $23  6X = $24

So - JUST FOR THE RECORD: I'm not offering to start a clan lol.

I've never been in one, and don't know what sort of requirements there are of you to play - usually I hear people burn out on clans because they are all up on your grill to play, etc, etc...

Here's what I know:

I enjoy Reach enough to play it pretty regularly - but online with newbs / people you don't know stinks, and I'd rather play with people I know...  but friends are only on so often.

...and thus the idea of a clan / joining / etc came up.

Does anyone know of a good clan locally, or that they'd suggest?

Are clans 110% hardcore, or if you are only "good" - is it okay?  I'm not pulling in 30 kills every game, and I know I'm no Oklahomies / etc - so if a clan you know of is that way, or all clans are that way...  Nevermind :)

But yea.  Eh?

So - I write this, bleary eyed, at 5am to confirm what I had suspected, and what I think others fear would not be the case:

Halo Reach really IS a 5 star game.  It really is awesome.

Disclaimer - I've never played Halo 1, and cannot get all the happiness of "oh wow, X thing is Halo 1", and "Oh, good they went back to Halo 1", etc, etc.

What I do know is?

OKgamers worked with Red Bull and other companies to bring love to the Gamestop Midnight Launch of Halo Reach.  It was a pretty big turn out from what I saw, maybe a bit less than Halo 3.  Which fits - the promotions seem a little bit less, gamers seem a bit less interested - it feels like we just got a 4th Matrix, and everyone is going - huuuh?

Bungie did go out and "knock it out of the park" though, imo.  (Great scenery, awesome toys, interesting refinements.)

Anyway, after the launch, I stumbled in, picked up my copy as well, and went to the house with a few other OKgamers types.  Since it's only CO-OP for 2 screens locally (you can lan/xbl more), and Rislone had to wake up early anyway, Rislone and Eric watched, while Afro and I started campaign.  Slowly, they faded off, but for Fro and I, well...  We were locked.

3+ hours later, the ride was already extensive.  The new weapons, a whole lot of fun.  The experience - way more than the average shooter has been to me in quite some time.  It's been - a real awesome experience.  All the natural game play of Halo 3 seems to be there, with surprising little benefits.  The BR single shot seems to have taken my old BR skills and sniping skills and combined them.  No one talked about the fact the new grenade launcher - can take down ARIAL targets as well!   Over and over again, I found new things to talk about, fun to be had.  The camo - fades on shooting, and moving - balance restored lol.  The armor stuff in campaign also goes away on death - not sure about multi-player yet...

...and the interface?  You can tell they finally got to use an HD layout - not held back by keeping it ready to play on SD tv's.  It's - quite pretty.  Well laid out.  Seemingly, quick and easy to use - I'll know more once I poke around.

I'm an adult, so I've got things to do, and places to be - but man.  I really would love to continue right now.  Blarg to restraint!

In the end - I wanted to just put out a little write up from a gamer who does enjoy the occasional shooter, and has played a lot of Halo 3?  But also - didn't really KNOW if this was going to be big...   And the more I think about reactions, kinda feel a lot of you may have done?  You have been holding back, to see what non-TV people thought?  Well, I'm no pro, but from a fan of Halo 2 and 3, I'm really enjoying this  (Yes, H3 has it's issues, but haven't most of those been resolved with Reach?).  Trust me - get with a friend, check it out yourself a way your happy - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

GAMERS!  You've picked the date, you love your games, now come out and game!

OKgamers is launching it's series of Bi-Monthly Gamer Gatherings - first in the Tulsa area, next month after - OKC, then back again, etc.  ...leading up to our big events at the beginning of 2011!!

What to do at a GG?  Play games, maybe learn a thing while finding new gamers, new games, etc.  It's just like it sounds - an opportunity for gamers to gather.  Sure - we learn what's popular, and gamers can show off - what matters the most though?  BUILDING community - we have gamers in OK, show up and prove what we already know!  :)

WHY SHOW UP?  WHAT IS A GAMING GATHERING?  3 THINGS: What you are playing, getting better at, or even already compete in!

SHOW WHAT WE PLAY - A chance to prove what gaming communities we have locally to support!  Your game get no event support - CHANGE THAT!  Bring out your favorite game!  What are you playing?  What area you into?  What are you looking for competition?!?
(support?  As in, once we see games have a following through attending these?  We can add them at future events OKgamers works with like Conventions, Tournaments, gatherings, etc!!)

WHAT WE CAN LEARN - It's also a chance to grow at the games we love - talk to local gamers, share tips, and brush up on your game!  Want better online victories?  Want to travel to that next tournament?  Brush up here!  Maybe even find carpools to events!!

COMMUNITY BUILDING - Play a game but don't know if ANYONE ELSE DOES?  Part of an online gaming community, but don't know anyone locally?  Does your community need events to gather at?!

SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THIS EVENT; make this your communities next event, bring out your game, and use it as a platform to find more gamers!

(And bonus and obvious 4th - to spread the word about OKgamers.com existing as a Oklahoma's gamer source of info for tournaments and local competition!)

DISCLAIMERS?
Tulsa = Area, as Funhouse is like 3 feet into Jenks, technically :)
Arcade = it's at an Arcade, please don't bring cabinets :)
PC LAN = we have the space, and a few PC'ers, we'll see!

--

DATE:  Sunday - 10/10/10
TIMES: 1pm to 9pm(ish)
LOCATION: Funhouse at the Riverwalk
500 Riverwalk Terrace, Suite 100
Tulsa, Ok 74037

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=500+Riverwalk+Terrace,+Suite+100+74037&ie=UTF8&om=1&hq=&hnear=Riverwalk+Terrace,+Jenks,+Tulsa,+Oklahoma+74037&t=h&z=15&iwloc=A

GAMES?  See below for what is being brought for sure.  Bringing something else - post so we all know!

COST: 10$ - Like most events, there is a location fee - we are also pooling a fee to get PIZZA AND DRINKS!

FREE FOOD: YES!  We'll do 2 orders around 2:30 pm, and 6pm!

FREE TOKENS:  Yup, the 10$ fee gets you 10$'s in tokens - spend it on DDR, Initial D, Time Crisis, Soul Calibur 3AE, and other fun video games, as well as ticket games they have at that venue.

TOURNAMENT COSTS?  Ha ha, no.  This is purely freeplay fun times - like an event gaming room - without the event.  Bring enough setups, and we can do some fun free events, but we'll focus on having freeplay options always open!

--

So - we just bring our favorite stuff out and play?  Yup.  Just like a potluck Tournament style event, only this time - no console or game RESTRICTIONS!!  You want to bring out DBZ - feel free.  You want to play the 360 version of Street Fighter - bring it.

It seems simple - and it is.  The more gamers get out, and play against each other, the more fun they have.  The more friends they make.  And if they are competitive, the better they get.

...the more gamers we prove we have out there, the bigger events we can have in the future, and more sponsors will care too :)

CASUAL GAMERS = finding out local comp, and what is "strong" in this area, gaming wise!
HARDCORE GAMERS = recruit more tournament competition, and find locals interested in getting better!
ONLINE COMMUNITIES = Use this as YOUR event!  Promote it online, to friends, etc - then bring out some setups and play!
(Local gamers are looking for games to play, promote your game and find more comp!)

CURRENT LIST OF GAMES EXPECTED TO SHOW UP (edited as people post!):

Console:
SUPER SMASH BROS  - 64 - YES!, Melee maybe?  Brawl - YES!

IDEA'S FOR WHAT TO BRING / WISHLIST:
More Fighters - like  DOA, or what ever you play.
SPORTS GAMES?!  Madden fans, it'd be nice to see a setup!
RACING FANS - DO YOU EVEN EXIST?!  Prove it here.
FPS - you take up a lot of room; we'll take the first few 2v2 or 4v4 setups that post RSVP'ing the space - but don't expect to take up half the place unless that's all people show up to play :)

WHAT - NO CCG / TABLETOP / LARP?!@
We could probably get a LARP going, but haven't seen interest outside of conventions.
CCG and Tabletop - have game shops all across the state, your communities are set!  OKgamers volunteer staff also do not throw competing events with businesses - and well, CCG/Tabletop is pretty hooked up ya know :)

...that said?  IF THERE IS INTEREST - and no conflicts (games not rep'ed locally at stores), we'll check space!

UPDATE - 10/10/10 DATE CHOSEN!  EVENT THREAD UP -

http://www.okgamers.com/forums/index.php/topic,3187.0.html

THIS THREAD CLOSED!
----------- old info:

Gamers!  You've heard talks, mentions, and conversations about OKgamers going back to a focus on COMMUNITY; sure, tournaments are great!  But when you attend tournaments without knowing the competition?  Without appreciating the community that's there competing?  You don't get the value out of it you should; you don't get that feeling a local tournament can give.

So - OKgamers is launching it's series of Bi-Monthly gatherings - first in the Tulsa area, next month after - OKC, then back again, etc.  ...leading up to our big events at the beginning of 2011!!

WHAT IS A GAMING GATHERING?  THREE THINGS:

WHAT WE PLAY - A chance to show what communities we have locally to support!  Bring out your favorite game!  What are you playing?  What area you into?  What are you looking for competition?!?

WHAT WE CAN LEARN - It's also a chance to grow at the games we love - talk to local gamers, share tips, and brush up on your game!

COMMUNITY BUILDING - Have a gaming community, but need to build it?  SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THIS EVENT; make this your communities next event, bring out your game, and use it as a plantform to find more gamers!

(And bonus and obvious 4th - to spread the word about OKgamers.com existing as a Oklahoma's gamer source of info for tournaments and local competition!)

Console.  PC LAN?  We are down - join us!

...but first?  WE NEED A DATE!

Our first Tulsa area Gaming Gathering will be held at Funhouse on a Sunday - we'll have 1 week to figure out what date is best - so vote on the poll and let us know!!

Come back in a week; we'll have a set date, and start talking about what games to look out for!
