Okay, here I am.  Nice board you got here.  Here's what I'm all about:

Smokestack Jones
I'm in Oklahoma City
Been gaming for about 17 years, strictly tabletop RPGs with maaaaybe a few boardgames irregularly.
Played: D&D (most incarnations), Champions (15 years), CoC (10 years), Mutants and Masterminds (hardly played, would like to do more)
Been in OKC about 8 years, originally from Long Beach, CA

That's it, mostly.  I came here from the Limey Dragon site and thought you guys might have some pen n' paper RPG games goin' on around here in OKC, maybe at yer tournaments or something.

Anyway, glad to be here.  Thanks for having me (I've been had before...  ;D )

Hey hey hey!  This is your old buddy Ranmoth speaking.  Er, typing.  I figured, after increasing association with them at Mini-Cons, it was time to make the leap and join the OKGamers forums.  A process which mostly involved me finally overcoming my incessant laziness and checking out the site.  I don't usually play much in the way of multiplayer, a rather necessary facet of any tournament-inspiring game, though I can hold my own in Guitar Hero.

Name - James Buchanan (a.k.a. "that president before Lincoln")
Handle - Ranmoth (someone beat me to it on AIM, confound it all)
Age - 17 (still subject to curfew, confound it all)
Gender - Male (most likely)
Locale - Tulsa (I'm to young to marry)

Thoroughly Enjoyable - Guitar Hero, Resistance, Oblivion, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Grand Theft Auto, RPGs, FPSs, action/adventure, racing games, parentheses

Meh - DDR, Final Fantasy, .hack//, platformers, fighting games, "god" games, MMORPGs, survival/horror, RTSs, most arcade games

I'd Rather Not - Armored Core, Tony Hawk, sports games, flight simulators, "party" games

Repulsive - every game inspired by a children's television station/toy fad (this category excludes games such as Kingdom Hearts, which strictly speaking was inspired, partially, by the motion picture works of the Disney corporation, and also Pokemon, which was itself a source of inspiration for children's television stations and toy fads; both are series of which, incidentally, I am exceptionally fond)

Systems - N64, GBA, GC, PS2, PS3

Know what's more fun than fighting games? Taking a bubble bath with a toaster, because face it, no matter how good you are at a fighting game, all it takes is a hyped up kid smashing random buttons to end your reign of terror  ;D
GT: Eighty8keyes Haloez and anything else I might be playing.

-_- Trust me, we dispelled that myth at CGS with all the other game players who thought the same thing. If you're good enough at the game, random button mashing won't matter. May get you some hits but not the win.

Yea really.  I will PERSONALLY put out I will beat an TRUE masher?  One handed in Soul Calibur.  Yea.  ONE.

As for the idea of them taking down people that are half way serious, or starting?  Sure, it can happen.  Let's put this in Halo terms:

The best players, are putting shots out there all the time.  More bullets in the air, more chances to kill.

The starting players - if they had a 'mashing' mentality, would be doing the same thing.

Intermediate players?  Are jussst smart enough to know they should be concerned with strat, movement, etc...  And may not even fire before they die.

Mashers in fighting games?  Have one thing going for them - they are attacking.  People that are just learning the game can freeze up easier - it's a sad "you know better than them but" catch 22.  Anyone with a rudimentary understanding of the fighting engine / environment with a masher attacking them in, can decimate them the second they realize they are mashing.

LMAO I knew I was going to start something between you and Cools when I wrote that. I like fighting games just fine, the post was just a quick jab at the both of you. But still one of the best fighters in the whole genre is Time Killers, I don't care what any of you say.
GT: Eighty8keyes Haloez and anything else I might be playing.

It's not that, it's just that they're not my favorites.  Note the carefully chosen "meh" category, placed snugly between my loves and my dislikes.  Thought I ought to clarify that in order to prevent any scandalous rumors involving any alleged dislike of the genre on my part.  So whatever.  It was fun reading what cropped up in response.
