Forget trying to :

Rent
Borrow
Buy Used

Warner Bros is requiring a $10 pass in order to play.
http://technologizer.com/2011/03/30/warner-bros-may-join-the-fight-against-used-games-with-mortal-kombat/

Way to ruin what could be a cool game.

Really shocked at this..

No comments?  I figured everyone would be all over this!  seeing how everytime they'd wanna take a game to friends they'd have to connect to the internet and buy another 10$ license.

Or even that.. if we had a tournament.. and someone brought a disc that wasnt attached to the box its being played on..  there is 10 more bucks..

Eh.  Looks like they are going to try an experiment and I'm saying it is most likely to fail.

Dude.. they are soooooooooooooooo stupid if they do this.. ... straight ridiculous. Gaming is already a booming industry and customers are taking the 65 dollar risk on games that we cant return at full price.. wth.

my only problem with this is that they need to put it on the box, instead of hoping somewhere like GAMESTOP is going to tell you NOT to buy their used games.

gamestop doesn't care whether or not you get to play online.

chances are, they aren't going to inform anyone and this will be a much bigger problem than it would have been

Not surprised.
We've seen increasingly draconian DRM from pubilshers held by what are traditionally film companies, the big 5 media oligopoly will be pushing this stuff pretty hard, expect large publishers to follow suite, EA and Ubisoft have already done it a bit, and Capcom has been dabbling.

Not like any of these publishers produce anything but garbage anyway.

I wouldn't mind them charging 10 bucks for each new player if they were charging less than 60 to begin with.
but 60 up front gives the current own rights, reguardless of future transaction, All rights.

F U Midway.  You lose all my future business if this how you do business. : )   its that simple.
You can't charge multiple times for one copy of a product.  especially if you revoke the first guys authentication.

It's the first buyers right to sale his purchased item.
If midway wants to sell products, let them make products that people have to buy before its old cheap crap.
TBh I loved mk1 and mk2.  Mk2 was pretty great for its time.   every mk product mk3 and after was boring.

Crap + cheap tactics = business lost and company dispised : )   Way to go midway rofl.
Street Fighter IV.
World of Warcraft.

You know the funny thing..

If midway or who ever wants a piece of the used games pie... Maybe they should stop tryin to charge 49 bucks for a game that's 9months old, once its nine months old. Rofl X_x
I would pay the original creators 20 bucks as soon as I would pay 20 for a use disc.
I wouldn't pay 20 bucks a brand new disc knowing the are trying to dig into a fair used market though.

Just so you know, Midway is long out of business. The rights to Mortal Kombat are owned by Warner Brothers, and the studio that develops it (also owned by WB) is Netherrealm Studios.

Ironically, both Best Buy and now evidently Vintage Stock?  Just got into the rental business.

Don't understand why everyone acts as if this is a big, life-ending shock or surprise.  All of these companies are trying to find ways to milk as much money as they can from their consumers.  Have you not noticed that most games are nothing more than a shell of the game's concept?  Remember when games could last 40-90 hours or more?  Now they're never longer than 4 hours with fish-hooks allowing further adventures through purchasable DLC.

ALL companies want to do this, they are just waiting for the first person to make a move so they can join in as well.  Just like how the airline companies wait for the first one to add some ridiculous surcharge so they can all do it.  This is just a way for a company to keep making a few extra bucks off the used games market since they don't get any kind of royalty for the selling of a used game.

Capitalism, baby.  QQ all you want, but in a couple years it'll just be the norm.  If you can't afford to do the things you enjoy, you should re-evaluate where you stand in life and make adjustments.
