Like Naruto, Rock Band, Gears of War, COD, etc.  To qualify to be a tournament we need at least 8 people to sign up!

TIMES AND GAMES MAY BE SUBJECT TO DELAY - PLEASE CONSULT THE UPDATE SHEET IN THE GAME ROOM!

--

The BYOS (Bring your own setup) tournaments can be anything but not excluding:
Call of Duty 4
Gears of War 2
Naruto
Bleach

Keep in mind, with the BYOC setup, there is also 'no excuse' for not having your favorite game!  If you have the interest, we've got dedicated space for you!

FPS gamers:
Please be aware that FPS event's require lots of hardware (TV's, Consoles, Controllers...) and right now we lack enough hardware to guarantee any FPS event. (unless you just want to play one on one) Since not everyone plays FPS games we can't fully create the necessary setups to support a full tournament. Last year we had a several staff members who stepped up to coordinate hardware efforts** for Halo 3. So far no one has done this, and remain in BYO status.

** A "Hardware coordinator" is someone who has helped take care of the getting the hardware neccessary for at least their game. This mostly includes finding enough gamers with the hardware to make an event run, and working with them to make sure it shows up at the event!!!

BOTTOM LINE - Anything not in the official list is BYO status - work with us to coordinate any efforts your thinking about and we'll go from there!

(Keep in mind - OKgamers is a site to let us know when things happen and try and network gamers.  We have a volunteer staff that help at events like this simply to help get the word out about the site, and how useful it is.  We only own what we personally have, thus the 'byo' mentality.)

So with all this in mind, we hope to see you guys there!

GoW2 was mentioned as a suggestion for a BYO event.

Any event at this will be charged an entry fee that will feed a cash pot.

Once again, BYO means bring your own, as neither the event or the organizing group here, OKgamers, has enough consoles for multiple FPS events, plus the fighting games and other events we have scheduled.  We'll have several free TV's, etc - and space for events, and of course OKgamers staff to organize and run tournaments for gamers!

Important events = Saturday - so major Smash event will be then, SF4, etc.

HOWEVER - we've also discussed having events repeated on Sunday, and sticking to major loved tournaments again, vs events no one might care about - like a SC3 or DBZ tournament, etc lol.

Thoughts?  Speak quickly :)

Still working on securing the last of the H3 hardware to make sure we can officially say it's there.

: X_A September 03, 2009, 05:58:49 PM
Just so long as we have at least 8 setups - we'll definitely have 4v4 and 2v2 going.  Worse case, we can do 2v2, or 4v4 and split screen...

...which for Halo - at this point, we should be able to guarantee split screen 4v4.  THE MORE HARDWARE THE BETTER - so we are still needing hardware, don't slack off - 2 full days of LAN'ing with random new competition just walking in the door?  You just don't get that very often.

Hmmm last time in TiT they said they were going to hold a GH and Rock Band tournament. And guess what? They lied.  They said "not enough people showed up" when there were 6 people that showed uppecifically for the gh tournament.  Is this tournament going to be the same way? I mean I'm just trying to save gas money, because I drove 3 hours to TiT from Durant, OK to specifically play in the GH tourney and they made up some lame excuse for not having it.
: Re: Tulsa - Tulsa Comic and Anime Expo, Video Gaming - Sept 19 & 20th, 2009
: DarkWraith56 September 07, 2009, 10:29:03 PM
About the guitar hero tournaments at TnT, we had it printed that if not enough people showed then it wouldnt be held, we've always had that rule there has to be at least 8 people there.
: Re: Tulsa - Tulsa Comic and Anime Expo, Video Gaming - Sept 19 & 20th, 2009
: makosira September 07, 2009, 11:56:59 PM
I might be going to this one. I don't really care about the tournaments and such. If there's free play of a game I want to play, I'll probably play for a bit. A tournament? Even better.
I mainly just want to go for anime and such.

However, my mom has something she's doing on the 19th, and I have no idea if she has to work on the 20th or not...

I mean I'm just trying to save gas money, because I drove 3 hours to TiT from Durant, OK to specifically play in the GH tourney and they made up some lame excuse for not having it.

And while DarkWraith is 100% correct about the 8 man limit, I wish you'd had been more vocal at the actual event so that the TO's could have known this.

USUALLY - we won't continue with a tournament for anything less than 8 people because well - it's a competition - if it's just a few people, most will drop out anyway - and when there's a fee to enter, that's not very fair.  We've found in the past - that almost all gamers rather not play in a small tourny and just have their time for freeplay, etc.

...HOWEVER - we've thrown 6 man tournaments, etc, at some events because someone like yourself simply voiced their concern - we polled the players, and held it.

We are only as informed as you, the gamers makes us - please don't say we lied when it was posted, and we were trying to do what's best for everyone involved.  Gauranteed if there's 4 people that show up for a tournament at this event and state they wanna play no matter what, ESPECIALLY with someone coming all the way from Durant, etc?  We'll have that tournament.

Makosira - I don't know where you live but there is limited bus service to downtown on the weekends - you might check in and see if your on the route or around it.  I know working downtown that used to be the case at least.

I think there are a few bus stops around Broken Arrow, but I'm not sure(and somewhat doubt) they go to downtown Tulsa. Not real sure. I could always check, though.

What about FF Dissidia tournament. I have a single AV cable cord, (nonHD cord) I can bring so we can watch on TV. Also I live in Broken Arrow. There are bus stops there and they do go into Tulsa. The only one I can think of right off hand is on 71st st between elm and aspen. Its right across from Rhema, the big church.

Ok lets be clear here.. To eliminate any more of the  "What about this game" Questions.

We can and will do any tournament for ANY Game Provided we have the following.

1. Equipment to support it (ie consoles, tv, copies of the game)
2. People...  Need at least 8 people.
3. Time to play it.

I've never actually been in a competition, since I mostly just play at home, but if I could find somemore info and maybe figure out which games I'd be able to play, you could probably catch me there.

Halo is typically NOT the big game at cons..   "Most" halo players are not into the Comics and Anime type of things. Fighter Games are what will be Popular. At TnT we had a whole what? 8 to maybe 10 people show up for Halo 2v2 .

It all boils down to,  If the equipment is there /w people we can do any tournament.

GAME TIMES UP!

Keep in mind we've planned in multiple "BYO" game slots - we hope to hear from the gamers what they'd like to play!  If we have the hardware and games we'll do tournaments for them as always, assuming there is enough interest!

we ever figure out if you'd be able to get me into BB and SC4 tournies Saif?

I'm not sure what you mean - TO's, Supporters and Defcon volunteers get in free to the event by volunteering 8 hours, NO ONE gets into tournaments free, ever.  That money goes into the pot, and we wouldn't cheat 1-3rd.

As for volunteering, one would either need to contact Wizards to volunteer, or go through our Supporter link on the front page and Site Improvements forum.

HARDWARE - no one is saying you have to bring hardware to play, we are simply saying if you want a game to have a tournament - we need enough hardware to be present to be successful in organizing such an event.

Your controller broke?  No problems.  Your TV too big to bring?  PLEASE DONT BRING IT!  lol.

The long and short of it is - if you can bring hardware, it'll improve the event, and chances of your game having a smoother time.  TV's shouldn't be larger than 32", with the average being around 20in and a tube - so there is no LCD lag.

SECURITY - we keep a safe area and do so to protect your hardware.  If you review our Media section, the rules are clearly spelled out as well - if someone even lays a finger on a controller or console wrong, we kick them out.

Hopefully that clears up some questions, and see you guys this weekend!

Im going to assume the BlazBlue tournament is PS3? I only have a 360 stick (i r loozer) and after purchasing and using it can never go back to a controller, so if someone has an extra ps3 stick they wouldn't mind letting me borrow that would be great. Assuming there's only like 7 people for the tourney and you are all oh noes we need another and i will be there FOR YOU, if you are there FOR ME! I don't sweat too much and will probably lose quickly so you can have it back soon, heh. Also i could bring a 360 setup for free play if you wanted. Plus one stick anyone could use, of course. Although i haven't gotten around to modding it with Sanwa yet (its a SE).

Errr no. I was in Pennsylvania at that time. I have been to every Funhouse monthly since December, though, and I also showed up at the TCC Metro tournament.

And I'm afraid I don't think I'll be able to make it either. My mom works on Saturdays and Sundays, and even with her new schedule, there's not enough time.

And I forgot about looking up bus routes and stuff, so I don't really feel like getting it all planned out now anyway.
AND I just got over being sick, and I'm still coughing.
Coughing all over the place at a convention probably wouldn't be the greatest of plans, no?

I think a killing Frenzy (this was against that garbage "smooth" kid) is a good thing also I won the tourny with 1st place! my teammate had only ever played halo 3 twice! That BK smooth only  wo a round because my teammate went -24. He had a decent teammate I would have won a 1v2 but my teammate going -24 kind of put me at a disadvantage. Also 2 of the games I played him I was on 10 sens. I haven't even played in 3 weeks either. you can check that online in bungie stats. and if he was on that garbage OKlahomies team in dallas he didn't touch 5th round much less 6th. So screw off BK. And I never said I was pro. I just had a shirt from Dallas on. Dumbnuts =0

OK random. You are nobody, never have been never will be. i will bring the "garbage" oklahomies anywhere anytime and trash on anyone you can show up with. icyballs you are a joke always have been always will be. so why dont you just shut your mouth i would say come prove it at an event but oh wait thats right you cant. I dont know why you kids have to always show up and act like you are the best ever. Maybe you are the best of your friends, or best in your school, or best on your block but sooner or later learn that until you win an actual local against elgitimate competition just stop talking. You won a local 2v2 with 10 whole teams and there was not a asingle credible memeber of the halo community therer.

Seeing how I won the WHOLE 2v2 without going negative once with a teammate who has only played halo 3 twice I couldn't be that bad. Religion can you save that film where I outsnipe you while i'm middair going off the man cannon? Or the part where it says "KILLING FRENZY" then I check my controls and sure enough playing on 10 sens =0 Oklahomies suck Religion sucks anyone who teams with him probably sucks too. I won that tournament SO EASY if I had my actual teammate there GOD that would have been so embarissing but I guess losing to a kid who has only played twice is pretty bad too

how bout instead of aiming at your opponent,  mashing random strafe buttons and holding the fire button why dont you play a game with skill? everyone get into sf4 or blazblue. do it. do it now.

but none of you will, all you will do is get stomped, throw your controller, be real loud for no reason and then leave.

also, i am completely disgusted with my buddies from OKC lost to a bang player. the bang player was okay. got me a few times in casuals.

once i actually thought about it i was like... oh. wait... im not just chasing nu anymore i can sit back and wait.. mmmmm...

god halo is stupid, is dumber  than big riggs.

But all this trash talk seems meaningless to me not just on Halo but in fighting games. How dare you talk bad of the Ikaruga Shinobi master known as Bang!??!!?
