I am somewhat certain that this has been mentioned before on this website due to the sheer potential that this game possesses in terms of competitiveness and social value.
To begin, I attended the Guitar Hero Tournament which was held at Joe Momma's Pizza in Tulsa back in February and I no doubt had a fair share of fun with others. The social atmosphere was something I have yet to experience: Everyone carrying some sort of fantastically designed Guitar Hero controller and wearing some ridiculous clothes to go with the whole rock and roll experience.
When Rock Band was finally announced, me and my friends made note of the potential that this game held. Guitar Hero in itself is a social experience, Rock Band will no doubt destroy our imaginations and succeed to take it one step further.
That is why I propose to the staff at OK Gamers (I'm looking at you, Saif) to plan a Rock Band tournament.
I would do it myself, but I sadly lack the financial prowess and the mobilization skills that are best left not to individuals like me but organizations like OK Gamers. Also, I am currently in Liberal, Kansas, doing internship work on radio. While anyone who has consulted a map will note that Liberal is located not even 5 miles away from the Oklahoma border, it is located near the most desolate region in Oklahoma. There's a reason why Guymon hasn't been that great of a locale for tournaments.
Now, the basis of the tournament is identical to the Guitar Hero tournament:
1. The tournament will be split up into two tourneys. The first of which is a performance contest: The performance contest is based partly on skill, but mostly for showmanship. Participants can enter as a solo act, a duet (Guitar and Vocals, Guitar and Bass, Guitar and Drums, etc.), or a band made up of three or four participants. Participants choose to preform one song. During their performance, a team of judges will determine the participants showmanship and skill and rank them accordingly. The winner of this tournament shall receive a prized consisting of a material or a financial prize. If the winning act was a band or a duet, the prize will be awarded to the band who will share it under their own discretion.
2. The second tourney will be a skills match. Due to the added instruments in the game, the tourney can either be split up into 4 categories or it can be strictly a battle of the bands if time is not available. Since there is no way for 2 whole bands to face off in the game, the bands shall play separately and their overall score will determine the winner. As such, the winning band shall share their winnings under their own discretion.
Personally, I would prefer this to happen sometime early next year so that the developer, Harmonix, can hopefully patch up a few things wrong in the game (specifically the issue as to why the PS3 GHIII Les Paul controller is incompatible with the PS3 RB game).
And so, I leave it up to this forum's consideration. Any ideas would be appreciated.
