General Chat / Ipod touch to replace your DS?
« on: February 14, 2010, 05:46:22 pm »
How do you guys feel about the argument of iPod touch being a legitimate rival to the nintendo DS....i have not played with a DS period so i cant speak on that but having spent a good amount of time with the iPod, i can say for basically 250 bucks (200=ipod / 50=itunes*app store gift card), someone may not like that price for a device with 100+ different "one-trick ponies" (i have about 180 apps last time i checked)

if you do own an ipod touch, the games i found fun and interesting are
-NBA Hotshots
-Germs
-Bubble Wrap
-Pocket God (Favorite Favorite)
-Traffic Rush
-Glow Hockey (favorite)
-Doodle Jump
-Fingeric
-Colosseum
-iStunt
-Fat-a-Pult
-Gamebox 24-in-1 (1 dollar for 24 seperate full games)
-Peggle
-Run!
-Jungle Crash
-Bloons
-Mouse About

***some of these cost .99 and up now...they were on sale (FREE) for different promotions at the time of download (freeappaday.com  AND iSmashPhone.com)

ANYONE HAVE ANY APPS OR GAMES THEY WANNA SHARE? I'll be glad to hear 'em

thanks to the "icestorm" that passed thru, I lost power and a few things i was working on for mugen were lost too...oh well...anyways...I figured out a trick (or non-trick) to lighten the number of crashes...if your playing arcade mode and you lose, DO NOT CONTINUE. I noticed this occurs everytime I do try to continue: I select "YES", select my chars again, then before the fight begins, a error message says "can't open randes/stage0.def  or randes/toxicity.def"  Whatever appears after 'randes/' is the stage and whatever 'randes' is I have no clue...

Thats the only thing new that came out of a whole week of no power...productivity at its best

i got mugen this weekend. I got some build called fighting jam, which works but is buggy, and some build called all characters battle zero, which doesnt work at all. also, my arcade stick doesnt work either, so i am kind of all sadface right now

i have seen the fighting jam screenpack before but not the battle zero one...cant really speak on the fighting jam though because i havent actually tested it...let me know where u got it from and ill take a look at it

builds that bug out are common whenever one is made by someone other than you lol. Individuals may go crazy with the idea of a "dream roster" and not realize 1) there's no need for 500+ characters and 100+ stages (although, if I CAN get mine up there and not have bugs and errors, i would do it :-X) and 2) that favorite character of yours may have a bug itself, and if you don't know it or understand it, your game is gonna be ruined... Ex: I seen this holy/angel version (not the insane version) of Strider Hiryu and wanted him in my build, I put him in and my mugen wouldn't load right... same goes with stages...and I'm not sure but the specific character or stage doesn't even have to be selected...

My belief is that if you want to enjoy mugen, your gonna have to take time to learn the mechanics and make your own

oh yeah, about your arcade stick, If you have a PS3 controller, I may be able to solve your problem...I found a way to use mine on my laptop, but thats all I have and thats also if you have one in the first place ;)

well guys and girls...thanks to the numerous questions I received in my previous topic...(sarcasm is cool)... I'm going to try my best to describe mugen and help in anyway I can... **THIS IS JUST A QUICK RUNDOWN

First off... pronunciation: me personally, I say "mugen" = pokemon character + street fighter character
I have heard(on youtube vids) it pronounced "mugen" = cow sound + liquor

5 W's

-Who-What-Where-When-Why-

Who created M.U.G.E.N?- Elecbyte
What is it?- 2D freeware fighting engine
Where?- on your computer...I don't know, skip this one
When was it released?-1999
Why do I like it? because its free and the only thing I have is a laptop

Mugen is highly customizable...screenpacks(30 characters or 1000+ characters), stages , characters (name 'em and they probably got 'em), music (your own if you choose), lifebars, power bars(guard cancel, break and such)

Downloading mugen is quick and easy...the safest place is from the horse's mouth www.elecbyte.com

When I first got into mugen a couple of years ago, there were a few more helpful videos on youtube available for newbies like me to download full games...I remember a Marvel vs Capcom 3 build, SNK vs Capcom Ultimate Mugen, Dragon Ball Z Mugen, and a XL-Mugen (1245 characters :o). Since then, all videos have been edited or deleted and no longer contain the liinks...I did manage to save all the above mentioned builds except the DBZ one...so if anyone would like one I can get it for you (expect it to take a while)...

Notes-- New characters like Electra may just be edits of old characters... ex: Electra= Psylocke with modifications... Rambo= Guile with modifications...their still good, playable characters, some may just look and see original character..."That's not Dante from DMC, thats just Rock from Cap vs SNK with a coat...lol

Notable Characters (from who I have played with)
-Evil Ryu and Evil Ken
-Symbiote Onslaught
-Dragon Claw
-Gouken
-Angel Ken
-Jean Grey-Phoenix-Dark Phoenix
-Dhalsims, yes the 's' is correct
-Wolvenom, Wolverine + Venom =  ;D
-Rare Akuma
-Punisher
-Amalgam characters
==Iron Lantern
==Super Soldier
-Shadowlady (Dark Chun-li)
-Fantastic Four

If you do your own info surfing on mugen, you may come across these characters...
-"KFM" or Kung Fu Man
-Popeye
-DBZ
-Guilty Gear
-Super Mario (different versions)
-Aliens vs Predator

Now I'm going to touch on the subject brought up by newkillergenius, crashing and doing it often...
This happens because something is flawed within the game that maybe you selected i.e. stage or character...I usually look at the mini error report screen and eventually delete the problem...I still get errors but not as many as I used to...From my experience, there are 2 types of crashes: getting all the way to selecting characters then ERROR right before the match loads(these kinds are no longer a problem for me), OR in the middle of fighting, "MUGEN has stopped working" message(I still get these errors) don't know why...

any questions I will be happy to answer...you can also check out my youtube channel for mugen battle vids. There are a few of the characters I mentioned above showcased if you wanna see them in action...I plan on uploading more videos soon http://www.youtube.com/user/dastardlydan85

UPDATE** (Jan 25)- I just so happen to receive my usb to HD adapter from eBay, which means I have a few available mugen builds if anyone wants one...I have a way of getting the files to you, I just want to know if anyone has any suggestions for sharing a file? Thanks in advance

here's a few builds I do have:
-Marvel vs. Capcom 3
-SNK vs Capcom Ultimate
-EVE Battle (everything vs everything)
-Marvel Super Heroes
-Super Marvel vs Capcom
-2 blank (blue title screen & white title screen)

**Note** I will not send full games...only builds (probably still in rar form)...if you want characters, I play mostly with marvel vs capcom styled people, a few cap vs snk, and a few "novelties": predator, peter griffin, Zero (MMX4)... just so you know what to expect...if you want DBZ or other anime...i can show you where to find 'em

@ X_A --- my bad :-[, my topic IS about a fighting game...well if I ever post about mugen again, it will be in that area for sure...my mistake 8)

if there is any interest I would be happy to help anyone, take requests, whatever... in the right section of course...sorry again X_A

Nooo, no no - see, all the smiles and lol's indicate no one is mad here!  lol.

Anyway - all I was pointing out, is that the chat isn't that serious of a place, and can go OT easily.  If you want a serious conversation, or to find competition, that's what the Fighting Gamers forum is for, blah blah alh.  The chat forum is random, you can post it in here if you want, I just wanted to point out that you might get better responses there!  lol  Geez, I come across mean eitherway?  Eh, lol.

X A

its your profile pic...looks like your contemplating some evil, no good plot...

@ newkillergenius --I had the same exact problem, to give a quick answer...something to look for is: whatever the crash or error report says, try to remember that specific component and don't select it next time...im gonna try to give a full answer in the future topic that will be found in the fighting section...

UPDATE** mugen thread has been started in the fighting games section of the forum... thanks for the feedback everyone

@ mako --- yeah man, I am a M vs C fanatic and one day I was really on my "WHEN IS A FREAKIN MvC 3 COMING OUT!" binge so I searched "marvel vs capcom 3" (hoping to at least hear about a small rumor of some sort)...and a link to a youtube vid of ''Download Marvel vs Capcom 3" popped up...the rest is so-called "history"...i said to myself "screw whoever is in charge..I'll just learn to make my own...

@ X_A --- my bad :-[, my topic IS about a fighting game...well if I ever post about mugen again, it will be in that area for sure...my mistake 8)

@ Bees --- you should definitely try it out...I have about 6 different versions (3 made by others, 3 blank...i "work" on these)...

@ X _A and everyone... I (for obvious reasons) won't go into details here...I was just asking because mugen is becoming less of a pc game to me and more like a hobby(I record mugen battles and post to my youtube channel, also trying to learn how to create my own works)

if there is any interest I would be happy to help anyone, take requests, whatever... in the right section of course...sorry again X_A
