For real. I'm not posting for a while, if ever again. I'm going into lurking mode. There's a fine line between competitive trash talk and banter, and full on disrespect and lies.

While some former members of my team did cross this same line, I've always tried to keep the trash talk/boasting game related. To my knowledge, I've never called anybody any names outside of regular gamer vocabulary. I've tried be as civilized as possible, but apparently that isn't how everyone else wants to be...so I'm going to stop posting. I would rather lurk and just show up to tourneys than sit here and go back and forth and bring the site down in the eyes of everyone else. I will no longer participate in any flame war, any he said she said or any other generic crap.

Hopefully you guys will be at the LANs and tourneys and we'll say what's up and play against each other. Hopefully everything stays as friendly as possible despite the rivalry.

I've always had faith in the Gears of War community in Oklahoma. I've stood up for us and organized and did everything I could to prove everyone wrong. Unfortunately, I see now that it was a fruitless battle. No matter what kind of community I tried to help build, the outcome is not what I think we all hoped to see.

Watch out for Perfect Ending next year on the circuit. We aim to make big noise. Maybe if I ever make that "Pro" status, I can attribute my success to this place. As of right now though, there is nothing to keep me posting here.

MAP SPECIFIC SETTINGS

Pavillion
Original Weapon -> Replacement Weapon

Mortar -> NOTHING
The location of the mortar on this map is protected by a gate from both sides (locust and COG). To gain access, the first player to reach the mortar will find a switch on the wall adjacent to them and when activated, the gate for that side will open to the mortar, locking the other side from being opened for the remainder of the round. This "race-like" action is unbalanced for competitive play and no weapon put there would allow for balance.

Grenades -> Hammerburst
As Boltok spawns on this map by default near the Boomshield side of the map, there is no purpose in having boltok's spawn in the start points. Due to the sheer volume of Hammerburst usage on this map, having additional ammo on the start sides would be a benefit for the heavy shooters.

Mulcher -> Torque Bow
After heavily testing the boomshot in this position, we've found that it overpowers the map. It's too easy to just charge and get at least 1 kill with it. With the torque bow spawning there, teams can't just rush to grab it, and need to use coordinated efforts to gain control. It also balances out nicely with the sniper.

Boomshield -> Longshot
Boomshot doesn't work here due to the fact that you can camp the spawn and be pretty much invincible. With a sniper here and a torque at the mulcher, you see a nice balance between the two and a challenging fight to win the round.

Boltok Pistols -> LEAVE AS IS
The Boltok's can add a very dynamic element to the game and speed up the acquisition of the power weapons. I see no reason to remove them from their default position on the map.

Blood Drive
Original Weapon -> Replacement Weapon

Boltok -> LEAVE AS IS
Similar to my logic on Pavillion, the boltok offers a sniper like feel without the true power of a sniper. Boltok wielders will be challenged to nail headshots from a moderate range on opponents that have been weakened with HB. On this map, I could see the Boltok actually being a key weapon.

Grenades -> Hammerburst
For additional ammunition.

Sniper -> LEAVE AS IS
For reasons stated below.

Flamethrower -> Torque
By having both torque and sniper, teams now have to choose which they wish to go after. However, while obtaining one, it is possible to assist controlling the other with some team shooting. I believe the torque and sniper are two of the most skillful weapons in the game, so this will make the map faster and more interesting.

River
Original Weapon -> Replacement Weapon

Grenades -> Sniper
Additional ammunition on this map couldn't hurt.

Boltok -> LEAVE AS IS
After playing through my first settings on this, I think the Boltok's could be advantageous as an alternative weapon to counter the sniper. When I played last night, if the sniper is taken out early, then it's a really difficult battle for the rest of the team. With a boltok here, at least there is some additional assistance.

Sniper -> Hammerburst
By having the sniper in the house, it becomes a race for each team as to who

Mortar -> NOTHING
From further testing, grenades are just too overpowered. By putting nothing on the mid bridge, it offers a flanking opportunity but the risk you run is the lack of power weapons.

Boomshot -> LEAVE AS IS
The boom is going to be an interesting battle. You want to support your team mates with sniper support and nades. By spreading the power weapons out as widely as we are, its going to make strats on this map very difficult to master.

Mansion
Original Weapon -> Replacement Weapon

Grenades -> Mulcher
I have mixed feelings on the mulcher now. I do think it's a viable weapon but I'm also hearing from some that due to it's capability to kill from range, that it is a little overpowered. I'm open to suggestions on what else could be placed here but aside from a pistol like the Gorgon, all I can think of is either Hammerburst ammo. Let me know your thoughts.

Boltok -> LEAVE AS IS
This may need to be removed altogether or exchanged for HB ammo. There are 3 boltok's on the map by default, and I'm concerned about power that will wield. I could see human shields being used in combination with these far too often to yield some pretty devastating effects. For right now, we'll leave them as default and see how things play out. If anyone has any vidcaps showing them being overpowered, please link them.

Sniper -> LEAVE AS IS
Considering the improved netcode/hit detection, I think the "inside strategy" may be run more frequently, making the sniper a more viable weapon on this map.

Boomshot -> Torque Bow
After thoroughly testing this map over the weekend, the new boomshot is too strong on Mansion to really be balanced. Boomshots should only exist on maps that are large and have lots of open area. This makes aiming the boomshot an actual challenge. By placing a torque here, we saw more viability to try and hold and in-house strategy. However, I'm also interested in trying a torque bow in place of the sniper and leaving the boomshot outside. More testing on that tonight.

Canals
Original Weapon -> Replacement Weapon

Grenades -> Gorgon Pistol
We tested out the mulcher and found it to be a little too strong on this map to hold down the middle bridge. Everyone seemed interested in having the Gorgon make an appearance, and it did an "OK" job on this map. My biggest concern is it's strength. With an active reload, the Gorgon can land a 1 shot down like the old sniper, but all the bullets from the burst need to connect. More testing will reveal the true balance of this weapon.

Torque Bow -> LEAVE AS IS
No reason to change what worked well in the first game.

Boltok -> LEAVE AS IS
Should a team's sniper go down, they may have to resort to grabbing a boltok as a counter-sniper. It's in a position that is exposed, so make sure it's clear before you try to grab it.

Sniper -> LEAVE AS IS
Canal's biggest issue in GOW1 was 1-shot sniper downs. This slowed down gameplay and really hurt the map. Now that the emphasis is on team-shooting and headshots, I think the sniper's may work just fine on this map, and really could be a lot more entertaining than the first.

Gridlock
Original Weapon -> Replacement Weapon

Boomshield -> Boomshield
From heavy testing, this does seem to be a viable pick-up on the map. The boomshield can be used to execute a flank on the opposing team's Boomshot position, or could be used to push forward on their sniper side. Either way, the shield can be used effectively to make the rounds run faster.

Sniper -> LEAVE AS IS
I thought this weapon worked out well in the first game, and with the reduction in it's power by the removal of 1-shot downs, I think experienced snipers will really make good use out of it.

Boomshot -> LEAVE AS IS
It's hard to believe, but Epic's positioning of the primary power weapons on this map is actually pretty spot-on. No need to change boom.

Boltok-> LEAVE AS IS
As a means of offering counter-sniper support along with yielding headshots down to boom, placing the boltok here will provide another layer of strategy and teamwork.

It's a lot to read, but it's preliminary rules that a lot of people are using right now. Maybe we could do this for the Phantom Rush LAN.

First off, HUGE thanks to John and the deli. They're great and I look forward to coming back.

We had a pretty good turn out. 5 teams. We're paying out 400 to 1st, 100 for 2nd.

So far, we've had a few set backs, but we're going strong.

Where: TBA. Somewhere in Tulsa. Ideas?
When: Saturday, August 30th. 3pm.
Why: Because, thats why.
Cost: Negotiable. I'd like to do at least 10 a person to play. Double elimination. MLG Rules for both games.

Here's the hard part: equipment and people.
I will personally bring my 360, gears and my monitor. That means we need at least 7 other setups to not play split. We're gonna also need 2 tables, a hub/switch/router and 8 setups for Halo 3.

I will do everything I can to organize this, but Ill need people to sign in and help out with the equip.

I know at least 2 teams that would show up at the lan for sure, for Gears and 1 for Halo (they may be the best in Oklahoma).

So here's everyones chance to prove who the best is...I personally feel that my team is the best in Oklahoma. Prove me wrong. :)

There is a lot of talk back and forth between who is better and what not. Well, it's time to prove it. We all need to go to Tokyo in Tulsa, plan LAN with legitimate rules and see who comes out on top!

It's BYOC, so we need 8 360's and 8 copies of Gears. You also may wanna bring a controller.

Now, there is already 1 team from OKC committed to coming. I'm committed to bringing a team from Tahlequah. There are people from Arkansas and Missouri that want to come play.

So it's time to put up or shut up.

I'm doing everything I can to rally the Gears players here. I really want to do this, and will have a team for this event.  I'm going to bring an xbox, and I will try to get more. Also, I'd really REALLY like to play as close to MLG rules as possible. As long as the downtime isn't 5 seconds...I'm happy. This is what *most* of the people that I can get will want:

I'd like to suggest these rules:

Execution
30 second bleed out (negotiable)
5 minute round duration
First to 4 rounds.
Best 2 out of 3 maps.
Swap out the Hammer of Dawn for the Boomshot.
Swap out the Boltok Pistol for the Hammerburst.
No Rooftops.
No Escalation.
No Tyro Station.

I understand that there MAY be some legal issues with using MLG rules, therefore, we could alter the bleed out, making the rules non-mlg, but close enough that everyone is happy.

Also, to those that have it, how do you like it? I didn't like the first 3, but this one is actually really fun.

The event was fun. There were some upsets and some things noone seen coming. That was crazy.



BUT, the real craziness happened afterwards:

Some kids tried to party way to hard.
FYC (my team) was probably the most hated team: 3 altercations in 24 hours.
W7 are cool dudes. They had a LAN in there room, so it was always packed. I'm pretty sure one of them had a wreck while in Dallas and flipped the rental car they had.
Some guy from W7 put a cig out on his tongue.
FYC Crazy made top 16, came back from 1-0 on mainstage first match to win 2 maps in a row, which they did by coming back from 2-0 round count on both of those.
