The Strive GG is an Oklahoma statewide tournament during the opening week for Guilty Gear Strive that will be a hybrid event that’s both in-person and online.

Oklahoma League of Legends: A history of the notorious community

Every epic tale has its beginning; a story of overcoming adversity and conquering challenges, a young hero realizing their potential, and the tale of the Oklahoma League of Legends community is no different.

In the beginning, there was chaos. A free-for-all forum with no sense of direction. Negligent administrators. A deprived player base. This was what the 600-member “Oklahoma League of Legends Players” community had been given. In an effort to bring League to the local scene, OKgamers and Cody Willmon, LoL tournament coordinator for HxC Gaming Events at the time, announced a gaming event and the first League tournament in the state at a small college in Tulsa, Okla., called “Saturday Reboot.” It was this event that would spark a change, all with the help of Landon “Deadi” Carroll, who would later become the head administrator of the new dawn.

Only a week before the event, planning was thrown in to chaos by the hosting venue backing out. With Landon fielding two teams from his personal community, United as [ONE] Gaming, he couldn’t let his community’s first live event fall flat. He contacted the organizer, Saif Khan, who, by a stroke of organizational genius, managed to arrange a new venue by raising funds through a Kickstarter-style fundraiser. OKGamers.com and Tokyo in Tulsa LLC, both Tulsa community organizations dedicated to building bridges of Japanese-American cultural dialogue and understanding through cultural events, volunteerism, and youth culture experiences, today announced an exciting organizational combination. OKGamers.com has entered into an exclusive agreement with Tokyo in Tulsa LLC to provide volunteer services and game tournament assistance under a non-profit model. By focusing on a “community first” model with high ethical standards, Tokyo in Tulsa LLC and OKGamers will share the values of practical simplicity, clarity and action and leverage the strengths of both organizations to enhance and broaden their menu of services and volunteer opportunities. With a shift in gaming culture from a unique and shared Japanese-American relationship to a mainstream American-only audience since the mid 1990s, OKGamers.com found itself increasingly focused on protecting its high ethical standards and promoting gaming as a bridge to global community rather than giving in to requests to run for-profit tournaments. It was through the efforts to receive recognition as a nonprofit organization that it found common ground with Tokyo in Tulsa LLC.

Saif Khan, Chairman of OKGamers.com, stated that he was “truly honored to lead this combined group.
